Title: My next rig... any thoughts?
Post by: Tyrant on April 22, 2003, 08:27:44 AM
welp i\'m planning to build a new pc in the near future (i\'m almost done saving up for it, i just hope that i dont end up blowing the money on somthing else :)) i\'m also trying to keep it under a budget of 1000USD
here are the list of parts:

Processor- i dont know wether to save a couple of bucks and get the 2.53ghz or spend more and get the 2.66ghz proc

Mobo- GIGABYTE - 8IEXP  LAN v.2, only draw back is that its AGP4x

Soundcard- SB Audigy SE

Memory- Apacer 512mb DDR pc2700 (x2 if i can afford it)

GFX card - i think i\'m gonna stick with my current Ti4200 128mb  VIVO card, but maybe i might get a R9500.

Case- Liteon

HDD- 80Gb (probably seagate)

Monitor- Samsung 17\'\' CRT

liteon CDRW

these are the basics i\'m starting of with.

so is there anything any of u guys think i should add to or change in this list, your advice would be greatly appreciated?.
:)

Great choices, only thing I would change is the sound card.  I absolutely hate Creative\'s multiple driver packs that bombard your HD, memory, and startup time with splash screens and the like.  They made my friend\'s 2.53 comp crash whenever he booted his computer so he\'s looking for another card right now.

I\'d recommend M-Audio over an Audigy.  The same high quality without huge driver files and generally cheaper with the same features.

Revolution 7.1 (http://www.m-audio.com/products/consumer/revolution_page1.php) - $99 at Newegg.

What PSU you going with, is it included in the Lite-On case?

THX, thanks for the tip on the m-audio sound card :), too bad i dont live in the U.S, otherwise i would have ordered it from newegg.
btw this is the case that i\'ve got my eye on http://www.slcentral.com/reviews/hardware/cases/liteon/fs020/index.php i\'m not really sure but i think its got a 300w PSU.

300w not enough

that case is HUGE
fill the 2 120mm fan slots and you\'ll see

mm is right, go for more power.  And go for the 2.53 it\'s an OC monster.  You can get it up over 3ghz on air at core voltage.

Hehe, well good to see we both prefer the M-Audio over the Creative. :)  Creative is turning into Sony on the audio side, they focus much more on little features and extras rather than pure sound quality.
