What\'s amzing is the PSX still sells like 6.8 million...gosh, I thought nobody is interested in that piece of seriously obsolete
junk already...guess I was wrong. Heck, did even XBOX or GC sells this amount for the same period?? I wonder....

April 24, 2003 - This just in: the PS2 is selling well. In fact, it\'s selling better than it did last year.
As it tends to do every year around this time, Sony has released its yearend results for the previous financial year (4/1/2002 to 3/31/2003). For Sony, the overall company that produces everything from television sets to remote controls, sales for the period stood at 1.654 trillion yen, a drop off of 1.2% from the previous year. Sony blames this fall on costs associated with restructuring, less demand for products and price drops.
Moving onto an area of the company more related to games, sales via Sony\'s game\'s business stood at 955 billion yen (more than half of the entire company\'s sales), a drop off of 4.9% from the previous year. Profit, however, reached 112.7 billion yen, an increase of 35.9%.
In addition to these rather large numbers, Sony also revealed its hardware and software sales for the year. The company shipped 22,520,000 units of the PS2 worldwide, an increase of 4.45 million over the previous year\'s 18,070,000 units. The PSone hardware took somewhat of a hit, though, managing to sell just 6.78 million units compared to the previous year\'s 7.4 million units. Think it\'s about time for Sony to give up in the race for 32-bit supremacy?
Software sales were also stronger this year for the PS2 than they were last year. PS2 game sales reached 189.9 million units, an increase of 68.1 million units over the figure from the previous year. PSone software dropped to 61 million units from last year\'s total of 91 million.
In all, Sony has shipped 51,200,000 PS2 units throughout the world. This breaks down to 12.70 million in Japan, 22.21 million in North America and 16.29 million in Europe (congrats, North America -- you win!).

My friend, I think you should rethink the whole junk thing...if it was not for that piece of junk the gaming industry would still be known as nerd boys. That piece of junk made the gaming industry main stream. Did you ever see a console in a nightclub before the PS1 was around?( Not even the Saturn or N64 made it that far.);)
Anyway, good to see that Sony is still kincking ass!!!:bounce:

Well, from a technical hardware perspective as at 2003, it IS a piece of obsolete junk. How else can yo describe a 33Mhz machine with low-res and pixelly graphics in this day and age??
I\'m not talking about it\'s credibility as a console though, so don\'t mix up the two together.
So, anybody have XBOX and GC sales figures for the said period?

It\'s gonna happen all over again with The PS3 cause Bill Gates has a lot to live up to with the X-Box 2.
But overall I\'m really proud of the PSone.
8 years and still going strong.
people expected it to die out slowly because the PS2 is backwards compatible and the big developers were going to the PS2.I knew that millions of children out there would keep it going.
and as for the PS2...well as an onwer, it may be the weakest of the big three,but it\'s the biggest selling.
with exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 2 (now multi format) The GTA Series (PC and PS2) Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, GT Series, Pro Evolution Soccer Series...etc how can we fail?!?
We don\'t need Halo, we\'ve got enough already!

Actually, I\'m in the mist of deciding whether to get an XBOX. I want to play the best version of multiformat games. However, recently I\'ve got some quality hands on time with the XBOX and find it didn\'t live up to my expectation. I was expecting the graphics to be a lot better but the improvement over the PS2 is so miniscule it\'s not even worth mentioning at times.
I can still see aliasing and shimmeries problem(although less than the PS2) in even some of the best looking XBOX games. In DOA:Volleyball, the black babe on the sand has horrible noticeable jaggies as the colour contrast is too obvious(there\'s no FSAA enable, obviously). Also can see some shimerries in the sand when the scene move just like a PS2. In Halo, i notice the lag is very noticeable, like a game running on a "Minimum system requirement" on a PC( and we all know that "minimum system requirement" it\'s a joke )...it can\'t even stay at constant 30fps. In Buffy, there\'s sudden frame freeze like when you\'re running a PC game and it suddenly needs to load a big file from the hard disk.
I was horrified. I suddenly realized it\'s not worth it for the slight improvement on multi platform games...( i want to play SC on XBOX actually, as I\'m a Soul Calibur nut and want to play the best looking version of this game ).
I think I\'ll wait for another price drop or try more games to get another evaluation....and in the meantime I still have tons of PS2 games I\'ve yet to finish! Must finish them before the sequels come out!!
At any rate, i think the next-gen machine PS3 , XBOX2 etc MUST have VGA output as standard...I really don\'t see how you can improve the graphics without upgrading to a HDTV which is still very expensive.

Yeah im with you. Most people dont understand that. From a gameplay perspective, there are some games that i do like, but not a lot that i just have to have. Rallisportchallenge is one favorite. And if i had the money that big ass mech game. There are some really good rentals and i know that im missing many games but im happy with my ps2. :)

People are still interested in that obsolete junk is because they can rent then burn their favorite games quite easily.

Sucks...well, at least the titles I\'ve tried..(DOA:Volley, Halo, Buffy).
I\'m not impressed at all. I was expecting much superior graphics, but I see the same shimerries and jaggies...the bump mapping is nice though.

I agree the ps1 is the main reason there is ps2 and i still play mine allthe time with my ps2. both system are killer, playstation
