Title: No-One and other death metal fans...
Post by: Living-In-Clip on April 26, 2003, 10:20:22 PM
Okay guys, I have found a new love for Death Metal and "black" metal (cradle of filth, etc). Recommend some bands and cds. I already have quite a few Opeth (just got their "Damnation" cd this weekend..awesome cd, even if very mellow). Recommend me some bands like Opeth or otherwise very good.

Thanks.\\

Take a look at this website for suggestions:

You might want to look at the "Top Ten" lists to find out about other bands is specific metal genres.

If I may recommend a death metal band of a different flavor; Strapping Young Lad are perhaps my all-time favorite in the genre.  They\'ve only recently released a new albumn, though I have yet to hear it.  I would most highly recommend the albumn "City" (with the best songs being AAA and Underneathe the Waves), though "Heavy As a Really Heavy Thing" (S.Y.L., Skin Me, and Satan\'s Ice-Cream Truck) is extremely good as well.

:)

i realize that. just posting other bands that usually people who like death metal like those kind of bands also and that someone else would have a longer list of death metal bands to give since i only really listen to 3-4 \'death\' metal bands. but ya..dimmu borgir is good.

These aren\'t exactly "death" metal bands, but...
System of a Down
Rammstein (I cannot stress how much you have to check these guys out. German metal band. F*cking awesome. They are the best band ever, in my opinion of course)

Because they aren\'t death metal.

One of the best bands of our time, though.  Mein Herz Brennt!

You should just make this a "metal" thread.

some I prefer:

Slayer (the Slaytanic Wermacht Rules!!!!!)
Dismembered
BioHazard
Mushroomhead
Hatebreed
Pantera
Stormtroopers of Death
Method of Destruction

and some oldies

Iron Maiden
Motorhead
Priest

There are almost too many sub genres nowadays ;)

Good ones out there like Opeth and whatnot, but there are so many different different types of death metal out there, there\'s well written melodic metal like Opeth which is a blend of hard and melodic metal, then there\'s pure norse black metal like Immortal, Mayhem and older Satyricon.

There\'s grindcore like Carcass and Napalm Death for example, brutal make\'em hurt metal like Cannibal Corpse which is usually very fast but not at all that satanic, more violent kill\'em rape\'em stuff. Then there\'s the Florida Satanic death metal like Deicide (Incantation playes similar music although their roots lie in NY), and metal like Obituary which blends satanic and brutal metal (I belive the word rotten is mentioned like a gazillion times in their lyrics).

Then the nordic scandinavian metal which I like the most, there\'s fast melodic stuff like Children of Bodom, really different from anything else, pure satanic black metal like Dimmu Borgir, although I don\'t like their new stuff that much. Then the Swedes are pretty active Meshuggah, Taetre and In Flames all good stuff. Hell Meshuggah toured with Tool, and Metallica mentioned they\'d like to be more like them music wise.

There\'s a bunch of other good stuff out there. But if I\'d have to pick an all time fav it would be Opeth, their extreme melodic blend is just supperb

I guess they\'d be classified as Metal. Not usual American Metal though, they are very unique. I\'ve heard them classified as Industrial before, but I don\'t have a clue wtf that is supposed to mean.

Mein Herz Brennt is a great song. So is Rein Raus, Eifersucht, Bück Dich, Sehnsucht, Ich Will, Heirate Mich... all of them. Too many to name ;)

BANG BANG!
Too bad xXx exploited it.

Feuer Frei.
Pronounced "Foy-er Freye".
Means "Fire Freely", its something they would say in the military. Similar to "Open Fire!". Hence the "Bang Bang!"s.
Good song, but yeah, its probably their #2 most publicized song behind Du Hast, and neither of them are their best songs.

It would be a good song on their new album, but I doubt it will be on it. Its on the Das Modell single, though.
