Yeh, this is another thing that interests me. Your favourite literature. Well, mine definetely are:
J.R.R. Tolkien\'s The Lord of the Rings
Philip K. Dick\'s Ubik
- " - Lies Inc. ( aka The Unteleported Man )
- " - The three stigmata of Palmer Eldritch
Lorenzo Carcaterra\'s Sleepers
Frank Herbert\'s Dune ( haven\'t readed it completely yet, but whoa how good it is! )
Robert L. Stevenson\'s Treasure Island ( classic Pir8 story )
Stephen King\'s It ( the best Stephen King book )
And many many more. Just don\'t have the time now to write them all down. Let\'s make a list here, too, shall we?
-
Star Trek Encyclopedia
All the Star Trek technical manuals
The Klingon dictonary
And a few books about Linux can\'t remember their name.
-
The Lord of the Rings (do\'h... :))
-
I mostly read only Star Wars books... I\'m not gonna go listing them here :p But I liked Timothy Zahn\'s trilogy very very much :)
The Star Wars :Essential guides to characters/ vehicles/ planets and systems/ weapons and technology are some of my favourites :p Also the SW Technical Journal rulez!
One of my favourite individual books is The Dig (based on the LucasArts video game), great great book even if you\'ve played the game)
The Dilbert Principle and The Dilbert Future are also great. Educating, funny as hell and really give you something to think about.
You foreigners have no idea \'bout these books, but I love the Alivaltiosihteeri books! Alivaltiosihteeri is a finnish group of extremely funny people that have a weekly radio show. Which quite honestly is one of the funniest things one can witness on the face of this planet. The books are just basically all of their sketches, palindromes and newsflashes between two covers :) I\'ve got all five of their books now, and more\'s on the way!
I\'ve also been reading "At the Gates of Existence" (rather freely translated from finnish). Heavy stuff :)
I\'ve been meaning to start reading the Lord of The Rings (there it is on the shelf) but I just haven\'t gotten myself to pick it up!
-
Bah you evil Star Wars fan as Trekkie I declare war upon your Twisted Star Wars belives...........well maybe not
-
Anything fantasy. You know dragons, magic, and all that.
Margaret Weis, Terry Brooks, Raymond Feist are some good authors I like:)

Goddamn you Hawke, start reading LoTR! You won\'t be disappointed - at least I wasn\'t. It\'s a true masterpiece. Did I mention you should read it Squarwk? Well, do it! :)
-
Anything by Neil Gaiman is interesting. I liked his last book a lot (Stardust).
-
I to read a lot, but I\'m pretty picky about who I like to read. I like :
Steven King: Just about everything, except \'Cujo\' (the movie was better, and it still sucked)
Tom Clancy: "Red Storm Rising" is one of the best \'WW3\' scenario books ever written, and the \'Jack Ryan\' series is also extremely good.
David Eddings: I love the \'Belgarion\' series, I own all 10 of them.
J.R.R. Tolkien: "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of The Rings", best fantasy books ever written.
Frank Herbert: The \'Dune\' series (all 6 books), a complete universe and history into itself. Very good.
Robert M. Pirsig: "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" is one of the better philisophical books I have ever read. I highly recommend it.
-
Nice to see some LoTR readers here. Now the question goes; are u interested about the LoTR -movie trilogy? :D
Well, Frederik Pohl\'s books are good
-
Lonewolf Series Tom Clancy war stories including Rainbow Six.
-

Friedrich Nietszsche--Beyond Good and Evil, Birth of a Tragedy.
Red Hat Linux Unleashed
Thomas Harris- Red Dragon, Silence of the lambs, Hannibal.
True Crime books.

It IS going to be beautiful! ( heh; have u seen that LotR cartoon-crap? What it was.. Baskhi\'s or something :D )
Everyone whom is interested in fantasy, and not read Lotr; you\'re either not a REAL fantasy fan, or don\'t know the genre. Be civilized. Go and read the milestone of the fantasy literature.
Believe me; you\'ll start reading it. Then you notice you\'ve readed it. Whoops; there goes thousand pages :D Nah, well; you either LOVE it or hate it. But everyone who has said positive things about LotR have readed it at least two times ( it gets better and better every time u read it. You always find something new and enlightening :p )
Hey Samwise. The text below your picture should go as follows: The Wise Sam ( get it? :D )
-
I agree with you in every way Joyda. And yes, I get it. ;)
Read Lord of the Rings. I couldn\'t stop reading once I started! Now I\'ve read the trilogy serveral times in both English and Danish. Good stuff! :D
-
I love the Resident Evil books and the Dragonball manga.(hey, shut up, its classifyed as a graphic novel)
-
You guys forgot some:
Douglas Adams: Hitchhickers Guide to the Galaxy
Anything by Terry Pratchett...
-
Agh, I should start reading Terry Pratchett!
Oh, who\'s the King of Horror? ( not Stephen King I\'m afraid )

Lord of the Flies, Dune, Jurassic Park, and many more. I love to read.
-
I am surprised, with all you fantasy lovers, none hof you have read the Ender Series by Orson Scott Card. Definetly the best series of books I have ever read!
Read Ender\'s Game if you haven\'t yet, and you will love it!!
My favs:
White Indian Boy
Ender\'s Game
Xenocide
Speaker for the Dead
Lord of the Flies
Ender\'s Shadow
The Stand
Where the Wild Things Are (hehehe, childhood fav.)
Vertical Run
It
The Work and the Glory (8 volume set of about 800 pages each :))
and
Lord of the Rings (of course :))
Eric Jacob

aaahhh literature... I do love this
To those that have read Ender\'s Game:
read again
who have not:
Read it
Also try Ursula K. Leguin and Larry Niven for excellent authors.
Older books: Definantly the Dune series
Personal favorite: Heinlen for some great SF moral questions
Fantasy:
Harry Potter books are excellent reads
Terry Brooks has some original books if you go away from Sword of Shannara which was a copy of LOTR
Finally...
If there is any books that I can recommend more than any other:
Anything written by Margaret Weis
Her and Tracy Hickman started the Dragonlance novels
note: only read those done by them
And finally the best series of books I have ever read
by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
The Death Gate novels
First one being Dragons Flight(I think)
I recommend these books more than anything
Some of the most original writtings that I have ever read.
sidenote... I didn\'t like the Hobbit or LOTR
I will definantly get some letters for this but
I thought they were subpar books in comparison to what we have now. I admit they started the trend, but it got better in my mind\'s eye.
-
The Andromeda Strain - Michael Crichton
Jurrasic Park - Michael Crichton
Rising Sun - Michael Crichton
Transformation - Whitley Streiber
The Wolfen - Whitley Streiber
The Lord of the Flies - ?? (Oh my god.. they\'ve killed piggy!)
One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest - Ken Kesey
Fear & Loathing in Los Vegas - Hunter S. Thompson
The Time Machine - H.G. Wells
The War of the Worlds - H.G. Wells
Under the Knife - H.G. Wells
Elminster: The making of a Mage - Doug Greenwood
I, Strahd - P.N. Elwood
The Oddessy - Homer
Civil Disobediance - Henry David Thoreau
A Tale of Two Cities - Charels ****ens
That\'s all I can think of right now. I\'ve got the unabridged version of War & Peace that I\'ve been meaning to get around to reading because I hear it\'s a good story, but damn that book is long. I\'ve also got an extensive collection of Xmen comics and books from when I was younger that I still flip through occassionally. The Sabertooth & Gambit mini-series being two of my favorites.

Ok, I\'ll go to library today and look for Orson Scott Card.
I\'ll post my opinions here.

the Eternal Champion Michel Moor****
the skylark and lensman books EE Smith

Good choice there Beast! I\'ve read Ender \'bout 5 times and it get\'s better everytime! Maybe I should start again one of these days...
-
I\'m reading now Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card.. the Ender\'s Game wasn\'t in the library but I thought I\'d read this first.
And let me add this to my fav. books list!
THIS IS GREAT...
Also Philip K. D-ick\'s Time out of Joint is really good!
Do you know what it reminds me of?
The Truman Show ( movie starring Jim Carrey.. great one ;) )
-
Well I love books, reading is just a great thing.
But 1984 is my most favorite book.
1984
1984
1984
1984
1984=2006
-
I agree with Kirath, 1984 is an awesome book as well. It contains some quite scary thoughts... A society ruled by Big Brotherâ„¢.
Go read it, if you haven\'t already. What are you waiting for? GO! :)
-
What ever! 1984 is dark, droning and totally depressing. It\'s the most suck ass book I\'ve ever read. Animal Farm was better than 1984 even.
Anyway, I have a suggestion for your reading pleasure. I know, you\'re all thinking... "another book suggestion, ho-hum." ...and I\'d be thinking the same thing if I were you. However, there are tons of books I could recommend that I think would make any one of you happy and this one I KNOW WILL BLOW YOU ALL AWAY. It\'s the most un-put-downable book I\'ve ever read.
FIND IT AND READ IT IF YOU DIG SCI-FI
Orson Scott Card ~ Ender\'s Game
-
1984 is depressing yes. But suck ass? NO! :D
Another great book series is ... Doh! I forgot the name! :( It is a really great sci-fi trilogy (?) covering serveral thousand years - about a space federation - it\'s glory and fall. Any suggestions as what it\'s title is? All I know is that it\'s great.
-
Suck ass..!!!
Well ok then, fine, forget my opinon. I guess Im just an ass then.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I suggest you to read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?; it\'s Philip K. D-ick\'s greatest book.
Well, the movie Blade Runner is based upon the book but VERY different.
I think the book is better. It defines the rules of humanity. I have readed it in english. I suggest you read it too. Now GO and LOAN it!
-
theadsr: "the skylark and lensman books EE Smith"
Agreed, I don\'t know much about skylark, but I read Lensman and it was very good. Doc EE is hard to find these days though. I scour the second hand shops for his stuff and haven\'t seen much there, but sometimes I run across them.
Samwise, you\'re talking about the Foundation Trilogy by Asimov, good stuff. If you haven\'t read Caves of Steel and all of them, check it out. I think I Robot has the first book in it... not sure though, it\'s been since I was in sixth grade since I read it.
kirath and Samwise, okay okay, suck ass was a little harsh. I just like my sci-fi (or what ever you classify 1984 as) to fill me with awe and wonder, not frighten and depress me.
-
I love sci-fi :)
But I love true stories also. I suggest you to find some out and read. They\'re the most interesting ;)
I love fantasy.
I love war-novels ( such as Sven Hassel\'s; really good; read them out )
IF YOU HAVEN\'T READED LoTR YET READ IT!!! THIS IS THE FINAL WARNING!!! IT HAS BEEN NOMINATED AND VOTED AS THE BEST BOOK OF 20TH CENTURY!!!

Yeah, that`s it. Thanks man. :)
I`ll look for Caves of Steel, I`m always ready to read something new!
-
You\'re welcome! I used to be an Asimov fiend, consumed as much as I could of the stuff. That Caves of Steel is the first of a trilogy written by Asimov.
The Caves of Steel
The Naked Sun
Robots of Dawn
Like I said, it\'s been... 16 years since I\'ve read them, but remember enjoying them all immensly.
