Here is my regular desktop on OSX.

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fatlas.imagemagician.com%2Fimages%2Flivinginclip%2Fdesktop1.jpg&hash=8c189d4b7e5c3be323c0b9ca28b6a3ed72ac553e)

Here is one running OS X , while X11 is runing KDE 3.1, XMMS and Konqueror web-browser.

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fatlas.imagemagician.com%2Fimages%2Flivinginclip%2Fdesktop2.jpg&hash=989c967356ef053fdcc646909c7a867364f69503)

You\'ll note that when I run KDE in X11, I run it "rootless" and position the DOCK to the right side of the screen. This gives me my OS X dock and at the same time I have KDE\'s task-bar for X11 windows. It also allows me to run KDE 3.1 without it taking over my complete screen (run it rootless and then configure the desktop behavior in Yast control panel).

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fatlas.imagemagician.com%2Fimages%2Flivinginclip%2Fdesktop3.jpg&hash=96ed087c139a1106223ae5c17e87775a808deae7)

Here is KDE 3.1\'s folder navagation, next to OS X\'s navagation. Also in the picture is iTunes running in OS X and XMMS running in X11 - KDE 3.1 .

I\'m also running clear dock for OS X in all three pictures..

Just switched from a BeOS style desktop to a Bluecurve style

>>Plain desktop (http://demon.vortex.is/myndir/desktop.jpg)<<
>>Witn an open window and Winamp (http://demon.vortex.is/myndir/desktop2.jpg)<<

Theme is Bluecurve
Wallpaper is the default Bluecurve one, modified by me.
Icons mix of bluecurve and BeOS
Winamp skin is by me, designed to match the bluecurve style.

What can I say, I like the look :p

Hacked ustheme.dll or StyleXP, or he\'s running windowblinds.

The dock clone is one of those three: Yz\'s dock, ObjectDock or MobyDock.

Yea no-one guessed it, the icon bar is YzDock which makes XP look hella cool.  The thing animates so sexily when you mouse over the icons.  Run a search for it or try out here (http://www.deskmod.com/core.mod?show=showcat&cat_name=yzdock) towards the upper left.  It seems version .68 (what I have) is a bit smoother when animating but less stable.

http://www.tgtsoft.com to grab StyleXp (ain\'t free) and http://www.themexp.org to select any theme you want.

So far, it\'s the only theme I can get to work under OS X and KDE 3.1, No-one. I\'m open to suggestions tho\', as I would love to change it.

What we really need is some decent OS X themes  . I love Aqua, but sometimes I want a change and the only themes out there for OS X are terrible . I\'d love a Bluecurve style or something. *sigh*

Oh and all you Win users using DOCK programs , you\'re bums. Buy an Apple and use a true DOCK.

Just about all the best themes on XP are Mac Ports.
http://homepage.mac.com/max_08/ this guy\'s made some great themes like Milk, Smooth Stripes, Brushed and a BBX variant for OS X.

I\'d check out MacNN too, there are pretty good skinners on them forums.

I have a question about OS.

I have a gateway. fairly decent for low require video games, music, data storage - you know a family computer that can do the goods.

is xp worth it? I run on 98\' and it works fine, but is XP much more bigger? As in more data hogging/comp slogging?

Hey no-one, you know a ton about customizing your desktop, so let me ask you... where can I find some good, non fruity colored icons?

Every place I go to the icons are too colorful to match my desktop, which is a silver/grey/dark grey.

I did find these (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/1322957) at Deviantart.com, but when I actually went to put them on my desktop they were really low resolution looking.

I\'m using Windows 2000 BTW.

Windows 2000 won\'t display the icons correctly IIRC, it lacks the 8bit alpha blending to make the icons smooth and nice, also the default icons size in windows is 32x32 px while I have mine set at 64x64 to for it\'s high res glory.

But if you want a nice grey set to go with your color prefences I\'d try Tritanium for example, a nice simple grey colored set.

On the wincustomize site-

you can download various programs to make your windows 98 look like this

Guy\'s running windowblinds, bottom is Samurize, the short cut thing is one of many progs. Rainlendar for the calendar thingy and CursorXP for that big ass cursor. The icons are just cleverly possisioned on the desktop. And the icons are mostly glass bubble icons.

Title: Post your desktop (56k warning)
Post by: nO-One on May 17, 2003, 09:03:38 PM
it\'s OK, nothing special really, feels like a little too much. The theme is fugly, and the guy shouldn\'t skin the explorer buttons because they always end up ugly when the skinners make them too bevelled.

I prefer more minimalistic themes, Windowblinds just doesn\'t seem to have enough quality themes most of them are too much and feel just bloated. Msstyles skinners usally end up making more quality themes IMO, that\'s not to say there aren\'t any good themes available for the WB format, Honz\'s Krystal for example is excellent.

He mean\'s windows 95/98 systems

Anyway, here\'s my desktop.  Just changed the icons and wallpaper yesterday.

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fmembers.cox.net%2Fzerohaste3%2Fdesktop05182003.jpg&hash=ebf4d757b112f26abe975f12e9cdace777904fe7)

The only thing I don\'t like is the light on the desktop doesn\'t exactly fade out all that smooth.  I\'m not really sure of a way to fix it other than lowering the brightness... I\'m not a huge photoshop guru.
