Title: Got a Gamecube!
Post by: dawid22 on May 11, 2003, 11:23:09 PM
:bounce:   Yeah!, bought it over the weekend.  The cube I got is silver as it is somekind of platinum console.  With it you get Zelda, but I decided to swop it out for RE: Zero.

Right now I am trying to get use to the controls (Been playing PS for 8 years now and know the control like the palm of my hand.)

The graphics on this game is really good but I need to see a game without backdrops to really see what the machine presents.

I also did not buy a memorycard as yet, cash was a bit short.  Well, I finished RE1 on the PS1 without a memorycard and will probably have to do the same.

dawid, you\'ll have to buy Zelda afterwards, because it\'s a must have.

Don\'t forget Metroid and Eternal darkness.

Good purchase...but why did you swap out Zelda??  Perhaps GOTY 2003, and you swapped it out for a Resident Evil...pfft.

Oh well, you\'ll eventually get it.  Don\'t forget Metroid, Mario Sunshine, Pikmin, Eternal Darkness, Animal Crossing, and StarFox.

Honestly, I have never played any of the Zelda games before and wanted to make sure that I enjoy the game I purchased.  I bought the Gamecube to keep up with the RE series, but games such as Mario Sunshine, etc.  will be one hell of a bonus!!

Tell, what is Zelda all about?  (B.T.W, you are probably all gonna kill me.  With the new Zelda you also got  other previously released Zelda games.  1 on the SNES and the other on the N64.)

Zelda.. is.. well.. in a word.. good. :) *cough* It\'s actually kind of hard to explain.

It\'s an action/adventure title, 3rd-person in the 3D incarnations.. with all sorts of gameplay thrown in. Sword fighting, exploration, puzzle-solving, treasure hunting, all sorts of stuff. Oh, yeah, and typically the Zelda games are some of the highest quality games around. Hell, I\'ll go as far as to say that pretty much any Nintendo-developed game you pick up will be high-quality.. so try out some other Nintendo games on your new GameCube. Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, and Pikmin are some of my favorite picks. :)

BTW, you can probably snag the Zelda:OOT/MQ bonus disc with your Wind Waker purchase. OOT (Ocarina of Time) is the first 3D Zelda game.. released on the N64 in 1998. It\'s a ground-breaking game, considered by many to be the greatest ever made. Me personally.. I loved it, but I think that SNES\'s Zelda III: A Link to the Past is basically equal or better. You can\'t go wrong with either one. :)

Zelda is epic. You\'re an elf, for cryin\' out loud. One that needs guided to rescue Hyrule and the princess. In the process, you\'ll probably end up fishing, digging up holes, cutting bushes and for old times sake, hitting the chickens or throwin\' pigs into the water.

Oh yeah and Zelda is inventive gameplay at its best.

I\'ve just been out myself today and bought the same package! Zelda has blown me away, I\'ve never been a nintendo owner, but have been thinking about getting a GC for some time, and I\'m glad I did! I also got Mario sunshine, Pikmin and Monkey Ball 2, not really had chance to play them cos I cant draw myself away from Zelda!! What kind of game is Metroid? I dont really know much about it!

Well, Metroid Prime is a 1st-person action/adventure game.. a FPS but not in the traditional sense of Doom or Halo. I highly recommend the game, seeing as how it was (IMO) the best game of 2002 on any platform.

You\'re not guaranteed to like it, of course.. but it\'s so damned good that you probably will. :)

I\'ve just been reading a review of Metroid, it sounds really good, its definately going to be my next purchase. I still cant get over how addictive all the games seem to be, I wish I\'d bought one earlier now!

I just bought Medal of Honour: Frontline, as I did not play it on the PS2.  The thing that makes me really glad is that it is 4 player...and not 1 player like to PS2 version (F*$k knows why they did not even make that a 2 player game... that is why I never bought it for the PS2 system.)

I hear Wavebird\'s battery life is superior, I\'d definitely suggest you get that.

If you liked Zelda, you might as well give Star Fox Adventures a try. That game will really display the power and the features of the Gamecube. I can safely say SFA is a franchise title, along with Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid, and Zelda.

Also, pick yourself up a memory card in the near future. You might be needing it...

Jm: Long time no see, man! :)

SFA is alright.. not my top pick on GCN. It\'s really a sad game when compared to Wind Waker, but there are a few entertaining moments.. and the production values, graphics, and sound are great. The gameplay is really the only downside; repetitive, formulaic.. the fighting sucks.. too much item collecting.. basically everything that Rare does wrong packed into one game. Even so, the general gameplay is par and the game is definitely worth a rental.. even though you won\'t want to finish the game in 3-7 days.

Me, I got it on September 23rd and still haven\'t beaten it. :)

BTW, Pikmin.. very good choice. It\'s still one of my favorite GCN titles.. and is up there with Super Monkey Ball as my favorite 2001 GCN title. Brilliant game, although it\'s only an introduction to what will probably be a bigger and better franchise. Pikmin 2 looks like it\'ll successfully continue the series later this year. :)

No they haven\'t talked about that.  But the next promotion is awesome.  Gamecube bundled with Gameboy Player for the current price.  I don\'t think you get a free game with that, too, but who knows.

The GBP lets you play all those GBA (and older) titles on the brightly lit, big screen.  Color better than an SP or Afterburner, but not portable, and stretched graphics tend to come out imperfect, jagged or whatever.

But still awesome.  It snaps on the bottom of the Cube.

Wavebirds are neat, but ultimately useless in my opinion.  But I\'m close enough to the tv.  It\'s nice for multiplayer if you don\'t want to sit by your friends, which is definitely something worth looking at, heh.

I liked Star Fox enough to beat it, but I agree it was repetitive, and only found one puzzle to be really inspired.

Metroid Prime, on the other hand, I couldn\'t get into.  I got reasonably far but quickly got tired of the exploration.  It\'s tough to keep me captivated when I\'m wandering through the same rooms over and over with fewer and fewer ideas of where to go.

I always like to nominate Eternal Darkness as a game to buy.  Silicon Knights put a lot of effort into that one, and I played it three times over for only a minimal upgrade in the ending.  But it has a cohesive story that is compelling the first time, and in the end tells you how and why you played the game three times.  I liked it, plus it\'s original and darker than your normal Nintendo offering.  Next original one looks to be Geist (excluding Twin Snakes)...
