Title: new PS2 compatible hardware (PSX)
Post by: bigrob on May 28, 2003, 03:56:16 AM
sweet !

"Sony will release a new hardware platform dubbed the "PSX." The PSX will feature both DVD and HDD recording functions; the former supporting both DVD+/-R and DVD-R and the latter offering a HDD capacity of 120 GB. The unit will feature an installed TV/BS tuner and an Internet adapter, and will also support USB2.0. Memory sticks will also be supported by the unit.

The disc insertion system of the PSX will utilize a slot mechanism, and will feature the same Emotion Engine chip and graphics synthesizer as its predecessor the PS2. By featuring a real-time OS that is to be used for games, the unit will be capable of high-definition and high-speed recording functions. "

it\'s like a tivo and web tv type thingy that burns DVDs and plays ps2 games, and it\'s not being released by sony computer entertainment, but the main division of the company.

Here is a picture of the back

Considering the money you ll save by buying pirated games and movies instead of originals that will cost you generally less than a PS2 until its out dated

Wow. I dont really get into these speacial edition things but this look awesome to me. The only thing is that i have 2 ps2\'s and the price of this baby is going to be through the roof (like most special ed sony things).  The design is very suave in an exessive technical way. Shrugs*

It\'s an all-in-one box.  Not just an upgraded PS2.

If I have some money when it comes out maybe I\'ll buy this instead of getting another PS2.  Kinda funny that I have to resort to this since PS2\'s break too easily.

I\'ve yet to hear any of my friend\'s break theirs... I\'ve never broken my PSX or PS2 either. The only probs I\'ve had, and some of my friends too, is a dusty laser, which takes 5 minutes to clean yourself. You must be jinxed or something if you have lots of problems with PS2s breaking.

I gotta admit...it\'s one fine looking piece of hardware, I love the sleek simplistic style..and the lights (but I still won\'t buy one)

Good to know im not alone:).

As for the new pix. Wow, those are indeed sexy, and if i had the money id get one but we still dont even know the price. It would be pretty neat though to sell my ps2 to some suburban kid and then when all my friends see this sleek new box and ask what it is... well you get the picture. Pretty snazzy :)

So, this thing can play pirated games?
Title: new PS2 compatible hardware (PSX)
Post by: Tyrant on May 30, 2003, 03:59:53 AM
^more like pirated movies, which can be done on a regular ps2 anyway.

I\'m still wondering why they put the controller ports on the back.

A hidden panel on the front, or hell even the side near the front, would have been much much better.

^maybe playing games wasn\'t the main selling point for this system.

once the controllers are plugged in. How often do you really unplug them. Maybe they just wanted it to look clean.
I would probably use my wireless controllers anyway.

well- i think its basically pointless.

considering the ps2 can basically do all of this. except the video stuff...

But whatever floats their boat.

Loooks nice- would look nicer in grey i think. a dark one.
