Title: Game Soundtracks
Post by: Metal Gear on May 29, 2003, 01:36:17 AM
Name your favourite game-soundtracks.

Personally I think that the MGS 2 soundtrack is cool(especially the "main theme" and "Can\'t say goodbye to yesterday").

Another one I like is Chrono trigger(for the SNES).That soundtrack is one of the best I\'ve heard to date.

I actually bought the official Wipeout 2097 (XL) soundtrack, its just wicked.

Most Namco games have pretty cool soundtracks, though nothing you could stick into a CD player and listen to at a party...

Im going with WipeOut XL, eventhough my favoritve of the series is on the original. Could you put the original in a cd player? Cause i used to do that all the time with xl. Ill do it in a bit and find out. ico soundtrack wasnt all that bad either.

Yeah, Wipeout XL will most probably be one of the alltime great soundtrack.

What we use to do is as follows.  Let the track load and once it loaded you open up the lid and take the cd (game) out and replace it with other music that you think would sound good with the game.  Wipeout XL would then pick up the music CD and you are able to select the track that you want to play.  It would still have the same song names displayed but will be replaced by your cd\'s soundtrack instead.  Try it, it\'s real cool.

Imagine playing the Prodigy or Crystal Methods song of your choice wile playing Wipeout.  I know that you can just smack it into your HiFi and pump the sound but the difference is that the soundtrack would be playing and the soundeffects would also work because it is already loaded.

Just a few original soundtracks I can think of right now :

Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy Tactics
Xenogears
GTA Vice City
Chrono Trigger
Silent Hill 1, 2 & 3
Castlevania SotN
Super Castlevania IV
Einhänder
Wild Arms
Grandia
Sonic 2
The Dig
Skies of Arcadia
Metal Gear Solid 2 - The Other Side

And if you count arranged & other "special" albums :

Final Fantasy : Symphonic Suite
Final Fantasy : Pray
Final Fantasy : Love Will Grow
Final Fantasy 3 : Eternal Legend of the Wind
Final Fantasy : Celtic Moon
Final Fantasy : Grand Finale
Final Fantasy 8 : Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec
Final Fantasy Piano Collections IV, V, VI, VIII, IX and X
(I myself can only play about 20 of these pieces, but I WILL know them all by heart one day. I will become the ultimate human FF-Jukebox!)
Final Fantasy 7 : Reunion Tracks (just because of the 3 orchestrated songs)
Dracula Battle vol. 1 & 2
Dracula New Classic
R-Type Special
Pretty much all OGCs
The Legend of Zelda : Sound & Drama
The Legend of Zelda : Hyrule Symphony
Ocarina of Time Rearranged
Xenogears : Creid

There\'s lots more more but... I got some complaining to do, goddamn online DVD stores sending me the wrong DVDs! Graarrr!

Def Jam Vendetta and Grand Theft Auto Vice City have kick ass soundtracks.
I love smashing some poor f*****s head to the canvas whilst hearing "X gonna give it to ya" by DMX or riding a PCJ-600 down a long road while listening to "Gold" or Atomic" on Wave 103

I know I\'m missing the point here but I stand by my opinion.

oh and Primal had a kick ass soundtrack when played through my Dolby Surround 5.1 speakers.It\'s such a beautiful game to play and the music just adds to the game so perfectly.

Tricky has yeah I admit...

NBA Street 2? is that the one with Nelly on?

Who performs the tracks? is there licensed music on there like on Def Jam Vendetta?

I\'ve kind of noticed that they repeat a lot of tracks on Def Jam although whats cool about it is that they repeat the kick ass tracks.

obviously WWE Smackdown!Shut Your Mouth has some great tunes on there.

Yup agree... It fits the game so well also. What an adrenalin rush. I still actually like the first wipeout the best out of all the wipeouts.  :)

Personaly i think its one of the best games period. That is in a slew of 100\'s but WO1 and XL are definately great in my book. Even fusion was good to me and by far surpased the oddness of the third. Not the best but not bad by all means.

Yeah, XL 2097 was the best IMO, soundtrack wise. I remember loving the soundtrack to Lotus Turbo Challenge 3 on the Amiga when I was a kid! GT3 soundtrack fit the game really well, it was all a bit quiet though.
