Title: PC Upgrade Time
Post by: nataku on June 09, 2003, 11:25:07 AM
For those wondering, everything I\'ve read on the RAM says it\'s good stuff.  Uses Winbond BH-5 chips, same as Twinmos and Corsair.  I was going to go with Kingston HyperX, but they have a huge problem with Nforce2 boards.

I\'m keeping my current case, graphics card (Radeon 8500) and whatnot.  They may not be the greatest, but it\'s good enough for me.

So, how does that look?  Total comes to $334 (US) without shipping.  Seem like a good thing to upgrade to from a 1.2 TBird, 512PC133 and an AsusA7V133 with a fried RAM slot and other problems?  If you can recommend anything different, lemme know, but I\'d like to stay around that price range if possible. :)

Get a new video card... the 9500 Pro isn\'t too expensive now.

Looks good, although i personally wouldn\'t go for a a barton processor, I\'d stick to the tbred cpus.

Really?  What makes you stay away from one?

My other choice of a CPU was going to be a 2100+ tbred ($73 bucks).  Everything I read says they overclock great.

They don\'t really perform much better if at all over the Tbreds. Even there clock rates are lower.

I\'ll be updating in within 2 months
Getting..

Amd Xp2800+ 333FSB Cpu (tbred)
Samsung DDR400 512meg Mem mod.

A few months later a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128meg card.

Hmm.

Alright then, should I go for a 2100+ instead?  Price is great and they get amazing OCs.  Tho I\'m not much of an OCer.

Or a 2600+ 333fsb tbred?  $3 more than that 2500+ Barton.  Hmmmm.  Choices.

i\'d go the 2600+ tbred over a 2500+ barton. But if u wanna save some dosh, just get the 2100+ tbred. :)
