Title: Can you figure this out?

for some reason,when we were walking home drunk on saturday night (well,stumbling around to be precise) my mate Karl asked me this question (don\'t know why) and I couldn\'t figure it out so he emailed it to meand I still can\'t figure it out...can you?

3 men go to a hotel and ask for one room for the night,the man behind the counter says that will be £30,each of the men pay £10 each.
when the men have gone to their room the man behind the counter relises that he has overcharged them as the room cost £25.so in the till there was five,one pound coins,but how was he going to share it between 3 men.
so he gave the five one pound coins to the door man and asked him to sort it out when he saw the men,the doorman thought how am i going to share this out between 3 men,so the doorman kept £2 and gave the men £1 back each.

the 3 men in the end payed £9 each for the room which comes to £27
the doorman took £2 which the total is now £29
so where is the other £1?

strange.

they are with three, two get 1 pound the door man gets 3, not 2

to make it clearer: 2 man pay 9 for the room, the door man pays only 7, so 9+9+7 is 25, ad to that the returned 5 and you get 30

this is not a doozy once u think about it, the guys paid £10 each at first they did not pay £9 as stated in the end of yer post (this is where the "trick" lies).

start with 30 bucks, gives dudes back 3 dollars making it 27 bucks.  he keeps the remaining 2 bucks making it 25 NOT 29.  He is adding the 2 remaining bucks instead of subtracting.  That is where the trick is.
