Anyone hear this CRAP about Spike lee trying to sue TNN about them changing their name to "spike TV" he has been out of the limelight so long he will try anything to get back in it. Do you know how many Spikes there are in the world? There wont be a court hearing till september and he has already cost them 16 million in advertising alone.....what a PUTZ!

OK, on the one hand we have a writer and director who has made some outstanding films that will be remembered as great american cinema.
VS
A crappy cable network that is currently best known for airing Baywatch, Star Trek: TNG, and Wrestling.
And you side with TNN?

their now starting to do good stuff. the best show is on saturdays called Extreme Elimination. its a bunch of chinese people doing weird events. the way the script is dubbed it kinda stupid but who cares cuz its funny as hell to see people eat crap(not literally of course)
now with the spike tv their bringing back Ren and Stimpy which was an awesome show and a couple others. the one with the rat already pisses me off for some reason though. probably cuz they play it every commercial.

I like Spike TV, Extreme Elimination CHallenge, Gary the Rat, Striperella, Ren and Stimpy, super 2ner tv, Trucks, The Power Block, lot of movies, etc...
And if Spike Lee wins this lawsuit, what will be next Michael J. Fox suing FOX network?

Yes and no.
I hate it b/c it is one of those frivolous(sp?) lawsuits..yet it does have some type of merit.
His name in the industry is his likelyness. It would be similar if any of you wanted to be a ring announcer and said " we are about tp rumble" expect to be sued by associates of Micheal Buffer.

Well I have had this debate with my boss several times for this is very old news. He thinks Spike Lee is ubsurd for bringing this to court. I mean why should an individual be able to tell a company they can\'t use a word as their name?
But here is how I feel. There are a ton of channels out there. Maxim is coming out with a channel, the NFL is coming out with one, hell there is even a channel dedicated to SARS. How do you know Spike Lee was never planning on venturing into starting his own BET and naming it SPIKE? IT is extremely possible. It would instantly have the name recognition that BET has as being geared towards African Americans.
That being said we\'re in negotiations with whatever that network is called for another show. Doh.

Well it\'s not exactly a popularity contest. Wesley Snipes & Will Smith are actors. Spike Lee is a writer / director / producer who also acts. That puts him a step above actors.

no TNN is a TV station owned by Viacom (CBS, MTV,MTV2, and nickelodeon I think), and they wanted to change their name to "Spike TV", they were all set-up to make the change last monday (16th) until spike lee put his nose into it and now ther wont be a change until atleast fall if TNN wins their lawsuit. But atleast those 3 new shows are still debuting next week.

Spike TV is a dumb name for a tv channel anyway. Maybe if it were a volleyball channel or something. It\'s supposed to be "the first network for men" (which is a debate in and of itself), why don\'t they call it something manly, like Teste TV. TNN needs to hire some new marketing people, because their ideas suck.
Now the programming is good! I watch all kinds of stuff on TNN. Extreme Elimination is great after a doobie. Don\'t give a shit what name they end up with.

Viacom owns an absolute ton of networks. VH1, Nickelodean, BET, All MTV networks, Showtime, CBS, CMT, UPN, TV Land, TNN.
And then there is Kingworld (an absolute goldmine of syndicated programming) and infinity which is the same for radio.
They bought out Blockbuster and now sponsor all pay per view on Direct TV.
Oh yeah, and they also own Simon and Shuster so all of you Harry Potter dweebs will be giving them cash probably midnight tonight.
Why they would think Spike was a good name without checking it out first is rather stupid.

Everything about TNN sucks ass. Sometimes it seems like it\'s run by brain dead chipmunks. Have you seen their billboards? It\'s a picture of Patrick Stewart next to some wrestling chick. Brilliant design, it looks like a 5-year old made it.
They should just call it "Redneck TV" or "Cracker TV" or something. I believe that\'s what Spike Lee really has a problem with. Not just that some corporation is going to profit from his name, but that it\'s a redneck network known for shit like wrestling and monster trucks.

that makes them OK in my book and I side with them. Spike Lee annoys me to no end.
Although I must agree that SpikeTV as a name sucks beyond words. Makes me not think of a television station nor mister Spike Lee, it makes me think that Spike from Buffy The Vampire Slayer has his own TV station....which is wierd.

BTW. Viacom sucks. I hope they\'ll go bankrupt. Hell, I wish every stupid TV network/syndicate would go bankrupt. Perhaps then we\'d get rid of stupid ad breaks every 10 mins and retarded programming.

Honestly, what\'s worth watching anyway these days? You\'re bound to drop a few IQ points just turning on the TV. Big Brother, Survivor, The Osbornes, MTV etc. etc. etc. Quality programmes are few and hard to come by.

To review: No one is trying to tell them what programming to offer. The dispute is over what name the network will use. I wouldn\'t want them using my name, because I think most of their programming is shit. That\'s just my opinion. Maybe if they named it BozcoTV, you wouldn\'t have a problem with it. Instead of saying "your view is wrong," I\'ll say you\'re entitled to your opinion. :)

Yeah i with him. I really dont care about the lawsuit. The idea for spike tv isnt really kool but i like spike lee a lot and his movies are great. Bamboozled was f*ing great and i have no particular intrest in his personal life or small actions, so as far as im concerned, hes kool. Plus, i dont really watch tv or tnn anyway

The fact that someone is able to stake claim to their name is sad. This is almost as bad as Abdul-Jabbar or however you spell it wouldn\'t let a person of the same last name wear his own name on his football jersey. ****ing ridiculous

here is an update:
they have come to an agreement and TNN can go ahead and change the name.
While the case was pending, Lee was in Los Angeles filming ``Sucker-Free City\'\' for Showtime, a cable network owned by Viacom....... isnt that a Bit Ironic...... Viacom owns TNN and Showtime and spike was doing a show for showtime?????

They settled b/c Spike was supposed to put up 500 Gs for the injuction and never did. To continue this suit he had to put up another 2 mil. That\'s what I heard this morning.
