Has any of you played it. So fare what I have heard hasnt been good. A lot of slow down, it sad a game that took so loang to get out has so many probs.
-
(to whom it may concern)
I TOLD YOU SO!
-
ROFL!
-
Yea I had a feeling about it. I\'m gald that I got Mace Griffin insted. Yes it does rock.
-
Well, that\'s unfortunate for the ppl who did buy it. Recently
I saw impressions of it\'s E3 build in a TV feature ; they said
the controls still felt very clunky while so close to release :crap:
-
-
For the ppl who are involved making it, and the Tomb Raider fans I really grant them it 2B good. However this gamespot impression posted on the 20th isn\'t exactly rosy : http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/tombraidertheangelod/preview_6030332.html (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/tombraidertheangelod/preview_6030332.html)
Especially the trademark errors in spacial coherence are painful
"Lara is now capable of moving stealthily, crawling on all fours, and moving while prone. Knowing she\'s this agile, we were very surprised when we found ourselves unable to crawl through a space roughly five feet across--basically just an old mattress folded across a vertical metal bar. This proved to be an insurmountable obstacle, as solid as a brick wall. "
Ouch
:hold:
-
The trailer in TimeSplitters 2 looked so good. Oh well. I do need a new game though.
-
I hate it.
Of course if you are like me, you are a hardcore TR fan and you\'ll buy it anyway and I\'m sure some people may like it or see past its bad points.
They changed over half the game. They took the horrible camera view from Resident Evil and stuck it in. Why? Who ever liked that??
The camera doesn\'t follow you and you can\'t back up w/o holding down the walk button and even then you can\'t correctly gauge the distance for a running jump. Even though the camera can position itself 360d, Lara can still only move in about 8 directions and she\'s slow and even slower to run
slowdown & bugs were all over the first level. You can\'t hit forward + X to climb stuff, now you have to stop, then tap forward on the stick. Hand to hand mode sucks. The instruction manual says tap for punch, double-tap for double-punch, but no matter what you do she\'ll kick.
This is just my opinion but I liked 1, 2, 4, and revelation. So judge for yourself.

Kool. I wanted to play this game for the longest. Thanx for the confirmation.
As for TR: Its tradgic to hear this. Ill still play it though. I tend to be less judgemental. *shrugs*
-
Long time no post from me... :D
But now two words: Slowdown suxx !!! :crap:

Tomb Raider is starting to look like a 2003 version of *coff*the Getaway*coff*
i.e.
over delayed and over hyped.
-
How come you guys always seem to diss the successful games like Tomb Raider?
Fair enough it\'s your opinion but before you play it,don\'t pass judgement cause AOD may well be a great game.
As for The Getaway, well it wasn\'t THAT bad!and it sold bucketloads so I guess you were all wrong about that one!
Eidos know that they could face a massive backlash from us if this is poor but I\'m expecting big things from this IF it ever comes out
-
the game is a turd
admit it

first off people only bought the getaway coz of the hype and coz it was a gazillion years in development (i\'m glad i got a used one for dirt cheap then sold it to another guy for a profit hehe...).
the game sucked monkey nuts, i have seen better textures in psx games. the only thing worth mentioning about the game is the dialouge.
as for TR:AOD, i\'ve played it at the game store (sat in the backroom and played for about 20-30 mins). and my god thats one god awful game, if it was\'nt lara having gigantic boobs that game won\'t be worth pissing on.

/me pats Tyrant on the head for such a superb post and sed a cookie of his choice from Scotland all the way to Bahrain.
you also forgot Gameplay which hasn\'t even been evolved or updated since the First Tomb Raider
oh look lets all have the Auto Lock “fun” that only made exciting by back flipping and side flipping.
Oh and
Switch and key hunting = VERY BORING !

here we go again the whole Boobs debate...
I play it for the puzzles and the addictiveness...
as for The Getaway, well I have two words as to why it was crap - Vice City
enough said
-
so TR:AOD is a severe let down (and i was right)?
-
No not for me.
Like I said before. I only played TR 1 and 2 previously....
That said. I like this one just as much as 1 and 2. Yeah, it does have problems, which TR didn\'t?
I\'m like 10-12 hrs in now.
Slowdown? I encountered this in 2 areas, big deal. Yep, when it does occur it is SLOW but in the 2 areas I\'ve encountered (rooftops in rain, and Sanctuary/Seasons) it posed no threat to Lara.
Glitches? Yep, a couple but nothing major....so far...
Controls? Man, I like the controls. Yes, it was akward at first. In the begining I was spinning Lara left and right, once I got used to it, and started using the Left and right sticks in conjuntion while manuvering it was all good from there. And I like not having to push extra buttons to climb and such.
The only real complaint are the near impossible and or timed jumps. TR has never been an accurate, or speedy control scheme when it comes to jumping and it looks like it still isn\'t.
Then again... THAT\'S TOMB RAIDER.
Bottom line?
It plays like.. you guessed it.. Tomb Raider.
Not a 5 star, more like a 3, but it\'s fun nevertheless, IMO.

anything with Lara Croft is a letdown to you.
I got a preview copy of the game from a friend behind the scenes@E3 and I tried it out and it plays really well and the upgrade system works really well, the control system feels more responsive, and although there are a few bugs which need to be ironed out it\'s a good game and feels fresh.
I\'m getting it when it comes out in the UK.
-
Im with cygnus. I mean we all have the right to be critical, but its just like mm with movies. MM is a movie snob and takes less pleasure from watching the ok movies (god knows i get like this too at times) whereas people that dont harp on some of the bad thing obviously can take more from the experience. Nobody says you have to buy the game and if you dont like it fine. I can be just as critical and mean it but if there is some way in which i can enjoy this game without being so petty then so beit.
Thats my 2cents but hey, to each his own.
-
Well I\'m still playing it. After a couple more times I\'ve gotten to the Cemetery.
I still don\'t like the changes to the camera and movement. They also didn\'t sync up the ledge-climbing controls w/everything else. The loading screens in Parisian Ghetto are way too frequent.
I can\'t figure out why they only show 12 bullets in your gun when you have 10 clips in reserve and there\'s no \'reload\' function. It gets to 0 then you pull the trigger and you\'re back at 11.
-
-
TR1 - Good
TR2 - Best
TR3 - Crap
TR4 - Average
The rest of the in between "mission pack", "gold edition" blah are all forgetable. Seriously, they should retired lara while the rating was high...I\'m just not interested in TR anymore.
Getaway - Worst than all the worst TR game ever put together, including those crap TR sequels yet to be made. It isn\'t worth the disc it\'s burn on.
-
AOD could have been a lot better if they\'d taken the time to get her movements down. The biggest problem is that the controls are jerky at best. All the other stuff can be overlooked. Ok that and switching camera angles mid climb/jump.
-
i just got tomb raider 6 angel of darkness and so far it pretty
good game i like tomb raider games
-
riiiiight. Well i just rented thise game and at first i was pretty dissapointed, but as the game went on i found myself being more stuck into the game and it was pretty damn fun. Nothing blew me out of the water, but not playing tomb raider for quite some time and seeing this new refreshment of the series was just interesting within its self. It would have killed the game for me if it were more corny but its not all that bad. The controls i got used to and do have any beef with. The slowdown was pretty pissy in the first parts but i rarely experience it now. The one major, yet small, thing that pisses me off in this game, are the parts where theres an area where youre not supposed to go, and instead of there being a wall you just start dying once you walk into it. That was uber gay. Besides all that i think its pretty enjoyable. Probably a 7 out of 10 perhaps.
-
played it,loved it,will buy the pal version when it HOPEFULLY comes out next week.
I agree with Lord Nicon and basically what he said was right so I don\'t need to say the same cause thats just spamming.
Is it out in the US?
it\'s just us in the UK are basically getting f*cked around by eidos and i\'ve heard people say they have played it and rented it.
I got a copy sent from E3 and it\'s a bit bugged but plays ok actually.
-
I thought The Getaway was an amazing game.
I still can\'t believe it received as much criticism as it did. I swear people are pussies these days and can\'t handle games that actually challenge them as gamers.

Yes
-
f*ck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so why is it taking so long to come out over here!
I\'m getting eyetoy next week anyway so I guess if Tomb Raider isn\'t this friday I\'ll still have eyetoy to play.
*Fifaseriesfan expects backlash from the guys on this forum for buying eyetoy
-
You got EYETOY?!?!?!?!?
I finished TR yesterday.
I would rather have the Eyetoy I think....
-
I get it this friday when it\'s released in the shops, although my best mate got it early cos he owns a game shop, and we all piled round at him&his brothers house last night after we went clubbing and it\'s brilliant!
It\'s the next step up in Bemani games and it\'s SOOOOO much fun!
it\'s easy to set up and it\'s just SOOOOO addictive!
you get 12 games with it and it\'s just as crazy as Bishi Bashi on the PSone and I\'ve got to admit that was amazing in terms of addictiveness!
as for Tomb Raider,I\'ll carry on playing it on sunday if I\'m not working.It\'s not the full game though, cause it was only a copy that was used for all the magazines to do the previews although it\'s got everything in,apart from the last half of the game.
-
eyetoy ?
That\'s not like mascara or something is it?
-
Well I certainly think that TR: AOD is buy material depending on the gamer. I think i might buy it if i can get a deal or i might just rent it again. I havent had too much time lately but the more i play the better it seems to get. Although i have to say some parts could have been done better. Right now im am playing as we speak (well while i type this). Im at the archeological dig. Meh. I dont know how far i am but im pretty saticefied. Fifa i think you will definately find this one interesting. I guess ill just have to wait on your opinions. Sorry chap.

Eidos issues profit warning
By Tony Smith
Posted: 27/06/2003 at 15:19 GMT
Game publisher Eidos has been forced to hold back the European release of the next game in the hugely popular Tomb Raider series, Angel of Darkness. The news has prompted a ten per cent drop in the company\'s share price.
Gamers are unlikely to be too miffed that the game will ship a week late, taking it into July rather than June, but the City is very concerned. By shipping AoD this month, Eidos would have been able to include sales in its current financial year\'s figures. The result: the company\'s pre-tax profits will take a hit.
Eidos\' fiscal year ends on 30 June. "While some units may ship within the current financial year, up to one million units will ship in July, the first month of the next financial year," the company admitted in a statement.
"This has led the Board to significantly reduce its expectations for profit before tax for the financial year," it added.
Eidos won\'t say what it expected to earn during 2003, or what it now believes its income will total. Its 2003 results will be announced on 4 September. Analysts were expecting sales of $283-300 million, Reuters reports. Eidos is expect to ship 1.5-2.0 million units, so at between a half and two-thirds of the game\'s sales will not now be included in the company\'s 2003 figures. And Eidos has already begun spending its £2 million UK marketing budget and its ?6 million European marketing allocation.
The units that will ship in June are destined for the US PlayStation 2 market. US European PC versions will ship next week, Eidos said. It will not say when it will ship the PS2 version in Europe, but it blamed the delay on last-minute checks by Sony.
AoD has already been delayed twice, first from its November 2002 launch date to February, and then to June.
This time Eidos only has itself to blame, chosing to release the game so close to the end of its fiscal year. Games are frequently delayed, and while it might seem like bad luck that AoD has only just slipped past the end of Eidos\' fiscal 2003, perhaps it should have considered the possibility earlier this year when it set the end-of-June release date.

I\'ve been playing it and it\'s good, the controls are so annoying and the camera angles...well is there any game that can do this right?!? are frustrating but yeah it\'s got the elements in there that have made me realise why I am a Tomb Raider fan in the first place and if you\'re not a TR fan then rent it.Period.
Eyetoy is very very good and it\'s a game that doesn\'t take itself too seriously.
