how are the ps2\'s Graphics? i know the xbox\'s Graphics are way sweet...... But just wondering how playstation2\'s Graphics stakes up? even though it shouldn\'t be about the Graphics it should be about the Games you like and wanna play most for that system
-
go look at some pics and movies, you\'ll find out for yourself!
IMO they are fine, almost up to par
-
Well you can think of it as this way ;
a games\' graphics are made up of these elements :
- polygon count
- texture quality
- special FX ; particles, bumpmapping etc.
- lighting and shadowing
- visual quality ; anti-alias and such FX
A top Xbox/NGC game will probably have all those elements
very well done. In a direct comparison, top PS2 games
might fall behind a bit in just one or two of those elements,
becuz for example ; \'a dev is forced to cut down on
polygon count on secondary geometry objects or otherwise
the framerate will suffer.\'
That\'s a compromise. But the top PS2 games are made in
sucha way that it is not a big deal, you don\'t really notice.
BTW. There are enough games out there which don\'t live up
to the hardware\'s potential, either be it PS2, Xbox or NGC.
PC is teh way to go if you want best graphics, but that\'ll cost
you alot more.....:thepimp:

Knotter, I dont think he would understand anyway. Not worth the time put in. *shrugs*
Casual gamers... meh
-
If you want the best games get a PS2
if you want better graphics and a much weaker library of software get a GC or an XBox
the PS2\'s graphics are more then good enough.
-
Oh no, not another one...*sigh*.
-
Troll Alert... ;)
-
I have to ask
are you referring to me as the Troll ?
I tell it the way it is
If you are only going to own one console then the PS2 is the end of choices.
if your hardcore then pick up a 2nd or 3rd console.
I tell everyone this. It makes little sense to purchase a GC or an Xbox if you are only buying one console. That is unless you love Nintendo games thenb go get a GC, but a big N fan wouldn\'t be contemplating this.
-
I tell it the way it is
You tell it the way you think it is my friend.

Ugh...I remember the days when all anyone ever talked about was comparing the stupid stats of different consoles to see which one everyone thought was the best one...and the endless arguing...all the way back to the Dreamcast days...and when the Gamecube was referred to as the "Dolphin". Why can\'t people just be a little more productive and look up these things themselves (no offense).
Of course...it\'s hard to do research when you only have a 56k modem connection (damn phone lines)...*ahem*

fact are out for everyone to see. There is no arguing these points anymore.
the PS2 is the champ by a country mile. If you are going to buy only ONE console then the intelligent purchase is a PS2
That is unless the gamer has to have better graphics/ sound, which aren\'t enough of a jump to make that much of diiference, or you are a Nintendo fan and just prefer Nintendo games.
Then your decision is obvious, but if you are a gamer who needs to ask which console should I get then a PS2 is your best option.
and yes debating this issue is futile.
So I\'ll stop

Graphics don\'t really matter. Unless you sit right in front of your tv, and look to see jaggyness in the person ur playing with then thats weird. But if your like normal people, that sit in a chair a little bit far from the tv, then you probably won\'t notice them at all. If your one of them people that are good enough to own a big screen then I hate you.

I agree.
When I\'m into a game I hardly notice the imperfections in PS2 games and I do notice some graphical enhancements with games on my Xbox but it still doesn\'t stand out enough to make that much of a difference
However Xbox\'s sound is superior and I do notice that.

Tis true. There are some things that catch my attention with xbox but ps2 really holds my intrest in the long term. Sure there are times where i play my genesis more than my dreamcast ps2 or any other console but for gamers that remember how great the games were and can still enjoy them, it is purely addictive. As i play games on my ps2 there are times where i think that the jaggies give certain games a really neat look, (strange yes, but true). Being a multigenerational gamer i like most ps2 games graphics. Not all but most, and i think that onne you get past the pettiness, the games really begin to shine. Well so some at least.;)

Hell, I miss the days when all we did was sit around and compare the specs while we speculated what each new system was goin\' to bring to the table. We all had grand illusions on what each system would bring us and how each system would dominate the market, but in reality, they\'ve all fell short.
Now\'a\'days, we just sit around and try to argue which game is goin\' to be "GOTY", most often before the games are even out... Bah. I can\'t wait until the next generation, for we can go back to the good ole\' heated debates and have some fun.
Oh...And for the record. I guess the PS2 graphics are fine and dandy. It really depends on the developer. Capcom and Konami squeezze things out of the PS2 that I would of never believed was possible.
-
Yeah LIC I agree
New Hardware is fun to dissect.
But I\'m having fun withg this gen. It didn\'t meet all my expectations either. But who cares I\'m still getting my money\'s worth.
-
IMO, you are really ignorant to base a console by its graphics. Its the gameplay that is important and how good the games are and if they grab your attention and make you run back to your tv. PS2 has done that for me. They have games that I want and the games that make me run to my couch and sit there for hours playing like GTAVC or MGS2. Graphics don\'t mean shit to me, gameplay does. If you are looking for a console with the biggest selection of games with the best gameplay, go with PS2, you will not be dissappointed.

Wrong. Graphics are dependend on the perception while looking at a game infront of your TV. A game doesn\'t need superiour elements such as those that you mentioned. \'Better graphics\' for a great deal is very subjective most of the time due to those reasons.

I like to think of it this way...
Playstation 2 is superior to X-Box in terms of good games, more original games. (excluding the multi fomat games)
-
Let\'s see:
(1) Where can you find all the best fighting game in one platform?? - VF4, Soul Calibur 2, Tekken series
(2) Where can you find all the best RPG in one platform??
FF series, StarOcean etc, XenoSaga etc. Dark Cloud
(3) Where can you find the best driving games(arcade & simul) in one platform??
GT series, BurnOut 2, NFS series
(4) Where can you find the weirdest & original japanese games on one platform??
(Can\'t name any becoz I\'m not into this!)
(5) Where can you find the best platformer in one platform??
J&D series, Ratchet & Clank series
(okay, this maybe a bit arguable with die hard Mario fans, but Mario Sunshine didn\'t exactly shake the world either and I can\'t think of anything on the XBOX that can even compete ).
(6) Which the platform when a new Metal gear game is always launched first?
(7) Which is the platform when a new CAPCOM game is usually launched first and than stay exclusive?
Omnimusha , DMC , and that new game which i forgot the name.
(8) GTA. Need I say more? (But to tell thr truth, i\'m not a big fan of GTA).
The answer is obvious: PS2.
Of course, the PS2 will lose out in FPS and RTS games which is the PC traditional stronghold. Nobody in their right mind would want to play C&C:Generals on a console with no mouse and low-res TV.
But of course, the XBOX graphics is superior, but not by much, and depends on the title developer...and some are even inferior.
usually most cross platform games will be superior on the XBOX but not by much, maybe slightly sharper texture or less frame drops. It\'s usually the XBOX exclusive titles that stands out more.
Still, the new Ninja Gaiden game looks great from the screen shot, but I\'m not sure if those are FMV cut scenes or what.
There is possibly 2 games I want on the XBOX now..Panzer Dragoon Orta and Ninja Gaiden...which basically doesn\'t justify a purchase....might as well save up for a PS3 or XBOX2 now...
