I have only listened to it for a little bit, but it sounds great. A billion trillion times better than FM. Essentially it sounds like a CD.
A butt load of channels. I scanned through them real fast and it looks to be pretty darn cool. I need to get a channel guide printed off of the website.

MEH! only a billion trillion times? I\'ll pass!!!
-
Good point. I actually was a little dissapointed as well. ;)
-
Did you get the add-on thing to go from the car to the house?
-
how much are you paying? PER month?
-
it\'s 12 a month, which is 2 bucks more than XM.
I didn\'t get the portable version. I got this thing for free so I can be choosey.
The chick tried hard to sign me up for 6 years. Which would be a deal if I really thought for 6 years the price would stay at 13 a month (I got a month free). It would have averaged out to 10 bucks a month.
I just don\'t think they can stay at 13 a month for too long. Once their subscription rate gets to a million they will need to drop it a buck or two to get more people in.
I also think that the two competing companies will one day merge. Just a gut feeling.
I\'ll go take a pic. It was extremely easy to install. I hope one day to get a head unit that is sirius compatible so I won\'t need the little tuner.
-
The little unit is chincy, but it glows orange so it matches everything else and the cost was right.
I am planning on doing a show where we do a mac daddy audio/video system in a car. Hopefully it will be mine...
-
ok, enlighten me what the frell is this sirius you speak of?
-
I wonder what difference there is between this and xm. Hey vid, what kinda car is that? A B-mer? I see the park, neutral and drive etc. but it looks like a stick.
-
Steptronic. Automatic with a Psuedo stick.
Since everything in the car is electronic and not cabled they can shift gears either way.
It\'s kind of like his and hers tranny. You can use stick for a while and then when the phone rings you can go to auto.
The difference between the two is that Sirius has less commercials, actually no commercials at all on their music stations.
They also have different, but similar programming. Sounds clear as a bell though. Very nice. I was listening to the comedy channel a bit on my way home and it was stand up acts. Vulgar as hell at 5pm. Gotta like that.
-
Sweet. Both the car and the Sirius. Very nice. What class BMW and how do you switch it? Im sure the manual mode is much faster. Ive been looking for some snazzy B-Mers (I love them to death. Mercedes can suck a fat C***). Oh and what is the price difference between the sirius and XM?
-
330i, the one in my avatar.
They both shift pretty quick for an automatic. If I am in sport shifting mode on automatic it hits pretty nice. Regular automatic is just smooth, no big whoop unless grandma is in the back seat.
Mercedes are for old farts. Unless of course you get a snazzy two seater. Thems be pretty damn sweet.
Sirius is a couple bucks more a month. But no commercials on the music channels.
-
I don\'t think I\'ll be paying for the radio as long as there are 4 competing stations in my city with music I like. The odds of all of them NOT having music playing are probably around one time every 20 trips. If I put that money towards DVDs or CDs, I\'ll feel like I\'m getting a better value (since I get to keep something at the end of the year).
-
Ah, if I had that I\'d do the same.
-
Man, I thought the title of this thread was,
OK, I now have Syphilis
-
No, that\'s at your support group. :)
Don\'t give it to that sweet chicky you gots. Wrap that Rascal.
-
I was thinking more on the lines of SARS, but I knew what Vid was talking about...... I have contemplated getting one of those....but I think I will pass.....I hear they have a problem in the BIG cities with all the tall buildings....
:hat:ScottyJ:hat:
-
Vid your car is uber high tech!
Instead of getting Staellite radio, I opted for the mp3 player. I ALWAYS have control over the music, and no monthly fee. The stand up comedic acts sound cool though.
-
Yeah, tall buildings may be a problem. I do know that XM is satellite transmission only and Sirius is satellite AND terrestrial. There are actually two wires coming off of the antenna going into the unit. Apparently there are repeaters on the ground that help in big cities where this can be a problem. No clue because our buildings are only 30 floors tall downtown in tampa.
I like the idea of an MP3 player and I may still put a changer in the back for that. But for now wifey says no more. God I hope I can do this show using my car. Or at least if we do this show and the JL audio come into town I want to try and score a sweet deal.
-
OK, I have been waxing my car INSIDE our metal building. We have a huge steel building where we have our set. It\'s nice because I have a lift and everything where I can take off my wheels and clean the inside. Me likey.
Anyway, I can listen inside here. Very odd. I guess we have terestrial here in Tampa. Mucho cool.
-
There is a spec of dirt or lint on your mat. Totally unacceptable.
Please remove it.

Nice interior. But since I have no kids, I would get a manual stick shift. You need teh auto so\'s you can stuff that bottle back into your kid\'s mouth if he\'s too loud. :p

That must have been a smudge on the lens. Couldn\'t possibly be on the carpet. ;)
-
I am impressed … Vid you have a Stick shift…
Now you can drive just like us krasy Brits, with the exception that you still drive on the wrong side of the road ;)
-
Im not sure if its XM or Sirius but one of them has the Playboy channel. You jerk and drive :) Sorry, just had to put that.

Actually, he\'s got the auto... they just disguise it as stick to make it look less wussy. (j/k.... or am I?)
-
I have everything but the clutch. You get a stick feel with a lonely left foot.
And no playboy channel on Sirius. Oh well.
-
clutch = car "feel" = good.
At least... I think so.
-
Totally agree. I wish I had a stick quite often.
-
Although, if I\'m completely honest, when I had a chance to drive the automatic 330i that another team was using at the BMW training I took, it was very smooth, and super responsive, and with the ability to control shifting, pretty much as cool.... except you still need a clutch for some emergency manouvers and recoveries....
Of course, with practice, I woulda been smooth in the stick, really! Those damn clutches had like a 1 inch motion for full off to on! :D
-
Only problem I have with the system is there is a swith at the bottom of the acclerator that drops the gear no matter what mode you are in. It\'s drive by wire so everything is computer controlled.
You could be cruising at 70 and if you hit the gas, instead of dropping into 4th ot will drop into 3rd. At 70, 3rd gear is around 5500 so it\'s near the top end anyway. I really like it better when you drop into 4th, but that darn switch gets me every time.
Even if you manually drop down into 4th with the shifter, if you accidently trigger the switch it will throw you into 3rd.
Making the jump from 70-100 is pretty fun in that car though. Pretty damn quick passing speeds.
We were playing on the dyno the other day and my boss has a V8 explorer.
It took him over 10 seconds to go from 70-90. It was pretty funny. Liek a dog. I actually think it was around 14 seconds.
Mine only took a few seconds. Can\'t remember the actual run because we did so many.
I\'m going to be itching for an M5 before long though. Always need more power.
-

I hear that. I tried doing some skidding and stuff in my wee little (unmodified) honda... believe me, it just doesn\'t have the power of a nice 330. Oh well, I guess I need a better job (or an acura engine :D )
As for racing an explorer... we all know that weight is one of the most important keys to high acceleration and not bottoming out in the upper gears.... so it\'s no surprise he accelerates like a pig. My civic might not have the top speed, or the handling... but it\'s peppy.

Are the stations mostly mainstream singles? As in - say you go to a rock channel and do they play the MTV singles or do they play different songs from different albums ?
-
Dude, I was listening to Psychadelic Furs, depeche mode, erasure yesterday on one of the channels. All kinds of crap you\'d never hear on mainstream channels.
There are some pretty cool Independent stations, there are some metal stations, lots of freaking stations.
-
I guess next paycheck I\'ll go get it. I\'m a huge Furs / Depeche Mode / Metal fan .
:)
