June 26 — Up to 8 million U.S. workers could lose their right to overtime pay if Bush administration rules are put in place, according to a new study released Thursday. The new proposed rules would dramatically change who qualifies as a salaried worker, and which hourly wage earners are able to collect overtime.

Except employees of places like walmart and target that force employees to work overtime for no extra money or face being fired.
Besides, this isnt about who is lazy and who isnt. To me it\'s all about being paid for the work one is doing. One shouldnt have to worry about job security just b/c they wont work overtime if they get no benefit from it.

He isn\'t. He is still pissed that Bush hasn\'t given citizenship to every illegal immigrant from Mexico in this country

Yeah that will stimulate the economy. All those tax cuts didn\'t do crap for the economy. Now he\'s pushing this ?????
Bush needs to go. !!!
This guy has nothing to offer the middle to lower classes. He\'s all about Big Business.
Time for the American people to take this country back !!!!

Well you need to realize that close 30% of Americans completely oppose Bush, and the Iraq war
so please do not include me in your list.
It is actually pretty naive of you to place everyone in America in the same category. Were not.
just because my parent had sex and I was born on this soil doesn\'t mean I blindly follow the idiocy that goes on here.
-
Don\'t make the same mistkae I did Sirmystiq and put all Americans in the same boat
It\'s just that these people supporting Bush and his administration are so outspoken they just drown the people who think Bush isn\'t doing the right things out.
Alot of the media and other peole are trying to make it seem as if the anti-Bush people are such a minority, and they fooled me for a while there.

I wonder if you bothered to read the linked article. That is such an absurd conservative knee-jerk reaction.
The reason for the current prevalance of overtime pay is that corporations have scaled back their workforce to the point where they often have one person doing the work of two. To complete their responsibilities, the employees have to work overtime, but this is still cheaper for the employer than adding another FT employee and the benefits required for that person.
Corporate america has been dreaming of taking away more of these people\'s rights to overtime pay, so they can be forced to work the same 50, 60 or 70 hours a week, but only be paid their previous base salary. Do you think the corporations are going to put that savings into increasing their workforce? I DONT THINK SO. It\'s going to increase their profits, which was the whole idea when GW Bush set out to make their dreams come true.
George Bush represents CORPORATIONS, not human beings. You elected a man who doesn\'t give a shit about you.

Woa. Hold up. Chill for a minute.
That\'s not what I meant by that. What I meant to say was that as long as Bush is president the US will suffer. And who else suffers if the country suffers? The people living in the country. Im not trying to say that Bush\'s followers are burning in hell. I meant to say that if Bush continues to be the dumb rich Republican he is. As a result America will fail with him. And every person in America will be affected. That\'s what I meant. Bush is the devil making stupid mistakes, the US will be the soon to be hell, b/c that\'s what where the devil lives remember?? The US peeps will burn in hell b/c they live here and are being governed by the devil. You all get me now?!
And Giga it\'s pretty gay you keep bringing that up. Why don\'t you post about your position inn this topic. Why? B/c you know is as stupid as everything else Bush has done.
-
Here is the problem. They are trying to get corporations to instead of making people work more hours, higher more people to work those hours.
This doesn\'t work.
It\'s far cheaper to pay someone extra in OT than to pay for an extra employee.
Don\'t forget, it\'s not just the wage you are paying. As an employer you also have to pay tax on the employee, Social Security, MEdical Benefits, Workman\'s comp insurance, etc. etc. etc.
It\'s far easier to just give people overtime.
My fear is that they make people work more hours and just expect them to work for base wage.
I am salary (Not a very big one at that) person so it doesn\'t effect me, but I don\'t like it nevertheless.

What kind of a job are you looking for?

Giga, I did read. Im just wondering how you feel about the topic. Do you think it\'s a smart thing what Bush is doing. Even though it doesn\'t affect you, like vid, im just wondering if you think it\'s a good or bad idea...
Vid if you were not being sarcastic, as of now i\'ll take any job offer. Except homosexual acts....just in case any of you try to crack a joke. I\'ve applied everywhere. Kroger, walmart, just for feet, fast lane, amc, big lots, even dollar general. Im thinking that in the end im going to have to end up working with my uncle\'s company. Doing what every mexican might do sometime in their life, construction, putting up fences, mowing lawns for companies you know all that good stuff.

Does that get you off the hook so you don\'t have to state an opinion? You\'re the GWB booster, so whether it affects you personally or not, you should have some kind of position on this. Is this good or bad for our nation?
-
^^
I just asked that :( I know im not liked here but man, Why do you all ignore me!?!?!?!?!?! :(:(:(:(

I think you know my opinion on it already... after all I am a capitalist pig so what do I care about hourly employees?
-
MM, you are sadly mistaken on your observation of overtime. I personally am hourly paid and I depend on overtime. I put in my 34.5 half hours a week and anything else is overtime and because of that, I can afford my bills with ease, instead of struggling back and forth.
I understand the premise of the idea is to make companies hire more people instead of workin\' someone to death, but in the process it could really hurt us who need the overtime pay.
In my humble opinion, this is another half- thought through idea by the Bush Admin. He needs to be out of office as soon as possible.

Probably b/c of the way you state your opinions and some of your past actions in here.

Wow, not even a "" to go with that? Someone might think you\'re not joking.
I was hoping you\'d give more than your opinion. I\'m not trying to attack you, just trying to find out how supporters of these policies explain them to others.

Typically it goes like this..
"Well, the Bush Admin proposed this idea..and well, it\'s the American way to like it...And if you don\'t, well you\'re just un-American.."
:D

Nah I didn\'t think you were attacking me... I just really couldn\'t care less about this issue. It isn\'t because I like Bush that I didn\'t answer, but if you really want to know - if I was an hourly employee I would be against it without a doubt. Any form of indentured servitude pisses me off, which is basically what working without overtime pay would be.

I don\'t think that\'s true, but I do find a lot of talk radio that way. THere is a dude here in town that just blasts celebrities and what not for not 100% agreeing with Busch and making comments.
There is a lot of stuff I agree with Busch about and there is a lot I don\'t agree with. The war on Iraq I completely agree with. Some policy stuff well I\'m not 100% with.

I was half way being sarcastic, Video. Though, there are some people that would follow a blind man through a hurricane. So, I can\'t make fun of everyone for being Bush supporters. :)
Honestly though, I think no one should be forced to work over the regular 40 hour week and not be paid extra. It could be considered modern slavery, in my opinion.
