God I want to hit add to cart so bad.

I can buy this set for $3800 from a guy I buy from up in Chicago.  Me likey. I need a wide viewing angle so I really can\'t go with a rear CRT.  It\'s really either this or a Samsung DLP, but the DLP would be a grand more for the same size.  THen there\'s plasma and I just don\'t see spening that much cash.

Anyway, TV junkies, talk me into something better under 4 grand.

My uncle bought the Samsung model you are referring to.  Floored me the first time I watched Black Hawk Down on it.

Yeah, they are coming out in July with 3 new models with much better black levels.  I think they are 50, 56, and 61 inches ranging from 4-5 grand.

If I could get a good deal on the Samsung, I would rather have it, but I can\'t at this time.  The guy I buy from mainly deals in Sony.

It really is a tough choice in my mind as I\'ve come to appreciate the black levels on a CRT ever since I got an LCD monitor, but iId  recommend the GWII for several reasons:

1) $3,800 is a great price for this set (may be because the GWIIIis on the horizon).  Buying it used or new?

2) Digital projector = no convergence or calibration issues, what you see is what you get.. ALWAYS.  Less upkeep and no emails to an ISF calibration guy. :)

3) No burn-in from videogames or anything else.  Great set for a gamer like yourself.

At around $4k I\'d like to recommend a projector (such as the Sony HS10 or Panasonic L300U)  but I\'m sure this set displays a big bright image for the price.  The GWII has a DVI connection.. meaning you can get a straight digital connection with an HTPC for your DVDs if you\'re willing to set one up.

Only things that concern me about the it are the black levels and it can\'t display 1080i, it will upconvert to 720p.  No biggies at all considering.. go for it dooooood!!

The Samsung TV is just amazing looking.  Weighs about 80lbs (the contrast of the screen size with it\'s weight to my 27" wega and it\'s weight is astonishing) and the damn thing just looks crystal clear to me running in progressive scan at, i guess it\'s 720p (could be 1080i, i don\'t remember).  The only thing he needs is an awesome surround sound setup and his home theatre will be complete.  Not too shabby for his tax refund check. :)

TV is brand new.  He gets incredible prices on high end gear.  He sells a lot to the government so he gets hell a deals.

My main concern is the black level.  That is the only reason I am leaning towards the Samsung.  If I can get a screaming deal on a Samsung I\'d jump on it.

I already have a front projection unit, but my problem with that is light control.  My house has a ton of windows and I just have no control. I am keeping the unit for it won\'t get me but 2-4k on EBay anymore.  My next house I will hopefully have a media room designed for it so I\'ll just put it in storage for now.

CRT rear projection I only like a couple of them.  I just hate the viewing angle problems they have.

I dunno.  I may still get the 50" as well which is only $2980.  Only problem with this is that 4x3 material would only be, hell I dunno, 38-42 inches?  Probably only about 30-40 % of what I would watch wouldn\'t be in widescreen, but that is a concern.  The whole stretch and crop crap is not for me.

I like the Samsung\'s picture better, but the Sony\'s styling is far superior.  But you don\'t watch the cabinet, you watch the picture.

Well wifey is applying for a job today and if she gets it then I may be able to get the TV soon.  I think I am leaning towards it more and more.  I just like the styling of the Sony better.  That\'s the only thing that gets me.  But the picture kicks ass on the DLP.

OK, I bought the TV a week or so ago and I should get it finally this weekend.  People are finally starting to get them in.  I actually haven\'t even seen what the TV looks like until today.  Someone posted some pics of his that he got a day or so ago.  Very very sweet.  Thanks for talkig me out of the LCD and going with the DLP.  I really think LCD tecnology is moving towards LCOS so I\'m glad I didn\'t buy the current tecnology with the Sony.

Here are some pics.  Obviously this isn\'t my setup, although I like his stand.

My stand is from the same company, but it\'s black metal.  Nice stand as well.  I dunno, I like the wood.  They make one with Cherry wood that is a bit darker I like as well.  I\'m not getting a stand though.  Mine will be fine.

I wasn\'t speaking about the stand btw. It\'s just that those BIIIG screen TV\'s kinda dominate your living room. But if you got a dedicated HT room it\'s not so bad. And luckily we all have different taste. :)

Same exact TV my uncle has including the shelf with the following surround sound system:

The case is different now.  Thinner bezel around the outside and the bottom screen isn\'t framed out.  The frame is around the entire tv rather than just the screen.

Also they added the center channel shelf on the case.  Before you had to build your own mounting system on the top of the set.

And yes, I love HD.  I have been dying watching my little set for the past month.

Well wifey hates me because she can\'t figure it out.

So I guess this weekend I am on a mission to make it idiot proof.

But it looks awesome.  I had to dim it down to vitually nothing in order to take a pic since I am using my cam corder with no flash.  But I got it today and it is mucho sweet.

suweet..  Everything looks so sharp on that sleek flat screen. Are those Infinity\'s?

While you\'re at it here\'s a quick pic of the budget theater.. Jaguar is being borrowed and PC case is off.

I hope to soon get that aging tv replaced with a 47" Pana or Infocus X1.

ps- I hate Lizzie McGuire :sleepy:

Yeah, they are infinity\'s.  THey are getting old though.  I\'m ready for more, but it will be quite a while.  Hard to justify that with the wifey.

I finally have a tv proportional to the speakers.  Damn those things are huge.
