Title: T3 Thread
Post by: Lord Nicon on July 03, 2003, 07:17:13 PM
Ok guys. You can make this thread official but if not its all gravy.

Well i just got back in the house from seeing T3 and i must say the movie did exceed my expectations, a lot. I went in thinking that this may be some corny comback of a good series made over 10 years ago but no. The movie in my opinion was pretty damn good and i love terminator. Of course this has many memories attached to it but i could care less if I am biased in any way be cause i truely enjoyed myself. My only major dissapointment is the fact that i dont think this movie is going to do nearly as well as i think it deserves. I think it cost 170mill to make and Arnold walked out with a butt load of green, (something like 20-30 mill. not too bad). There are a lot of things i would like to say but many, obviously, will be spoilers and considering its only a day after the movie came out, ill wait till more people have seen it. If you liked terminator i highly suggest you see it. Whether you like it or not, im not sure.

Not cinema history but definately worth the ticket to see it. IMO!:p

Yea the movie rocked!  One thing I did notice is that they shifted the focus less from Arnie and more to John Conner.  Bad idea since everyone is there to see the Terminators kick ass and blow sh*t up.. the background story is just there because it has to be. :)  Time traveling robots? c\'monnnn

Still definitely worth a ticket or two.

I thought it sucked. It was one mindless explosion from the next and they seem to forget the film isn\'t a comedy. Honestly, did anyone want to see the big-bad Terminator go "Talk to the Hand"???

Big dissapointment.

Yes but because that\'s the first expression he\'s learned in the new time he\'s in.. it\'s justifible imo.  I\'m pretty sure T3 will be one of those movies you\'ll either love or hate...

I thought it was a whole lot better then a lot of people thought when the first trailers rolled into theatres.  It\'s very obvious that a ton of the film was cut though (justifying the rumor that the producers wanted to make their money back faster with more screenings per day) and that a lot of parts need to be expanded on.  I don\'t think anyone can prepare you for the amount of comedy that is in this film, intentional or not. But I think because a lot of it was left on the editing room floor (making the film that much shorter), the comedy just overwhelms the viewer as LiC so eloquently pointed out.

I want to be clear on this one point though -- T2 set the bar so incredibly high that anythingin the franchise surpassing it would be nigh impossible.  If you think of the movie as its own seperate film and avoid comparing the two, you\'ll love it a lot more.

I liked the movie, the real dissapointment to me was the way it ended, and the focus on Connor kid to me makes you think they look to maybe take the franchise without Arnold in these next coming years.

Really? I just thought that it would be crap compared with T2, only special effects.. you know. I have to see it now.

BTW, i bought the T2 DVD a couple of days ago and surprised me because there are new scenes in the movie.. I didn\'t know ^^ I thought they were only in the extras.

Yeah i liked some of the added scenes in the T2 DVD cause you get to see the alternate ending. Of course i thought it was kinda bootleg and ontop of that there would be little room for a sequel.
Yeah i kinda scoffed at some of the humor. Like when the TX saw the victoria secret bilboard when she got pulled over. I was like come on. After a while i didnt mind it too much. The talk to the hand part i thought was funny and a nice touch because it reminded me of all the things John taught the last T-101.

Yeah this is exaclty what i thought. I just think it was a fail safe if Arnold couldnt do the next films, (just in case they do).

I know im yapping, but this was easy for me to get over and i think its why i liked it so much. Not only that but since the original came out ive always been hyped up on terminator so every piece of information about skynet and prolonging Judgement day I basically ate up like a fat man at a smorgasbord.

One last thing. When the police came in whith the TX at the .... Damn Somebody please put *spoilers* on the thread title.
[sp] When the police came into the cemetary and they rescued clair daine\'s character I started laughing hysterically when the psycologist came up to her. I didnt even see his face before I started laughing because i knew it was the same guy from the psyche ward sara conner was at. Of course i was the only one laughing.[/sp]

So I guess we should expect a huge expanded directors cut for T3.

Maybe I\'ll go see it tomorrow.  I still haven\'t seen Matrix though.

If the comedy would of been knocked down, I could of enjoyed the movie a lot more, to be honest. I can take mindless action flicks, but the comedy had no reason or point in this movie.

So you would have rather it not had any funny parts in it, solely based on the fact that it was an action movie??? So you want no comedic parts in any action movie?

I think what he\'s saying is that if the comedy was spread out evenly instead of one joke practically on top of another, he would have taken the film just that much more seriously.  I mean, he\'s right that this film is dealing with the apocalypse and the death of half the world\'s population thanks to some machines and it should be taken seriously, but we\'re all laughing the entire time.  I know I didn\'t feel a sense of danger for any of the characters with the exception of the few people who were wiped out in the beginning and the extras in the military base, but I didn\'t really care about any of them because we didn\'t know anything about them.

The point is, it\'s very serious content and the movie, with every line of dialogue that contains humor, destroys that feeling.  The ending had no real impact on me because I was expecting another one liner from someone.  "Oh no, we\'re in a bomb shelter.  We blew it." or something.  However, I\'m sure plenty of the elements that made the movie longer and spread out the comedy evenly were left on the cutting room floor and I think it would have been a far better film if it hadn\'t and I\'m sure L-I-C would agree with that.

Agree\'d a hundred percent. To me it seemed as though they took the Terminator character and said, "Hey - here\'s a character who can spout one liners off in no time..lets make him do it ALL THE TIME"... And at points, you could tell that the director and writers was struggling to find a one liner that was as cool as "Asta La Vista Baby" or "I\'ll be Back", yet they never succeeded.

I point to T2, where there was comedy elements with John Conner and the Terminator\'s conversations. They was just natrual conversations with subtle humor.. In this one, it was more, one joke after the next, thus negeating any sense of danger the film was trying to portray.
Did we need to see Arnold in a female strip club? Did we need a breast enlargement scene? Did we need a "talk to the hand"? The list goes on and on.
LIC- those and the sunglasses are the only "comedic" parts of the movie.  Please point out others if you can think of any.

Every director is different.. this one just liked to throw in a tad more humor in an otherwise depressing storyline (and if you haven\'t seen it yet it *does* get depressing).  If you left the story as is with NO comedy elements then we\'re left with a saddening movie, especially in the end.

You just have to take this movie for what it is...  if you\'re looking for awesome acting and boring run-of-the-mill robots look elsewhere.

The scene where she increased her breast size.
The entire scene in and outside of the strip club (in the middile of the desert no less)

"I\'ll drive"
"Relax"
"Talk to the hand"
"We need a new vehicle"
"She\'ll be back"

I mean, that\'s lots of comedy right there.  Every moment is when someone(s) in the audience laughed.  I know I laughed at all those moments.

The point that I\'m trying to make is that the movie should have been a lot more serious and it was directed as such, but a LOT of it was edited.  I mean, just look at one scene in particular -- the top secret military installation.  The TX had to disguise herself as an officer serving there, but the Terminator, John, and the General\'s little girl just walk into the top secret area where they are developing all the governments latest little toys?  Please.  1hr 45 minutes was probably 2hr and 15 easily and it\'s dissapointing that it wasn\'t to begin with. :(

"Relax"
I\'ll drive"
"We need a new vehicle"
"She\'ll be back"

IMO weren\'t funny parts of the movie, I really didn\'t see the humor directed in those parts, more just dialogue.

Oh come on. Everyone laughed when those parts came about. It was the execution. They was *suppose* to be funny.

"I\'ll Drive".... Think of the situation and what happened. It was suppose to be "dark comedy".

"She\'ll be back"..It was suppose to be a comedy moment as it threw back to T2.

"We need a new vechicle."..Once again, think about the situation and the way Arnold delivered the line.

Yeah it could have easily been something along the lines of t2. I was thinking maybe that the T-101 would be programed like John\'s previous t-101 by john too. Well the comedey we could have done without but what is done is done.

I thought the whole thing was great..
What did T2 have that T3 didnt??? I thought it was just as good as T2.  If nothing more, I got what I expected.  I think your standards are way too high if you thought T3  was worse then T2.

Just saw this one last night.

I was actually pleasently surprised. I thought it would suck the big one, but it felt quite like T2. Thumbs up. It was too short though as mentioned above.

About the comedy - I think it was ok. I loved the first "talk to the hand" joke where Arnold literally talks to the stripper\'s hand. The next one was silly though. But about what Ryu said was funny moments:

"I\'ll drive" - didn\'t really see this as funny.
"Relax" - can\'t really remember, don\'t think it was funny
"Talk to the hand" - yeah, supposed to be funny
"We need a new vehicle" - ditto
"She\'ll be back" - didn\'t see this as funny either, just a (corny) reference

All in all I think T3 was quite enjoyable. I hope there\'ll be an extended director\'s cut on DVD though.

the suckiest part about T3 is that its so blatantly obvious that they want your money. "It has only begun" my ass. I know the next move will have huge, super kewl battles, but god damn ... these corporate money grabbers.

I was kinda busy the weekend this came out, so I forgot to post in this thread.

Overall, I was very satisfied with T3, and I was totally and completely expecting it to suck hard.  It did not, and I liked it.  With that said, I do have a few criticisms:

The TX (Kristanna Loken) was not scary enough.  Yeah, she kills with no remorse, etc. but she\'s not nearly as scary as the T-1000 (Robert Patrick) from T2.  She walks slower than he did, she seems reluctant to run after people, she takes longer to reassemble herself after having a building dropped on her, she breaks down (????), and she dies more easily than T-1000 did.  Why did Skynet sent this piece of crap back for such an important mission?  The way T-1000 used all manner of blade weapons to pierce and impale people just made him WAY WAY more scary in my book.  All this makes T3 a bit less thrilling than T2.

I\'m not against the small doses of humor that are present in this film.  I know some of you hated it, but I don\'t care.  I didn\'t mind it because I never really took any of it seriously to begin with.  The non-happy ending pleased me even more, since I wasn\'t expecting it.  Anyway, regarding the humor, the only thing I disliked was the way they depended so heavily on one-liners from the previous films, instead of developing new material themselves.  I noticed several scenes that would have been perfect for new interesting dialog, but they were ignored.  Instead they fell back on the same old "I\'ll be back" and "Asta la vista, baby..."  I guess I should have expected that.

Where did Claire Danes learn to fire an AK-47?  Did her daddy the Air Force Colonel take her out to the firing range when she was a little girl?  Did she take breaks from her job as a veterenarian to train on soviet block weapons out in the desert?  Ehhh ... ok.

The warbots that the TX activates with her nanites in the military base near the end of the film were REALLY stupid looking.  I found it hard to take them seriously.  They should have hired the guy who designed the warbots from the Robocop movies instead.  Now those were scary.  Even ED-209 would have been scarier than these stupid chrome plated disasters.

I thought it was a good movie. The comedy in the movie didn\'t take away from the experience IMO..

"We need a new vehicle" was absolutely hilarious.
