I think I got a virus...after sometime the computer will automatically go to stand by mode...about every 2 minutes...so people got angry at me in an online race and said they were going to send me a virus I guess they did, while writing this it did it i went to control panel settings it says NEVER stand by HELP this is driving me insane

boot to dos.. format.
no point trying a virus scan unless u can rip out your hd and put it into another machine as a slave then scan it.
-
don\'t touch me! ;)
-
Go here for a free scan to see if you actually have a virus:
http://www.mcafee.com/myapps/mfs/default.asp
If you do then you can purchase their anti-virus program which is about $35. If the virus is Klez or Bugbear those can be removed for free (http://www.mcafee.com/anti-virus/virus_removal/default.asp). Also tell us if it\'s a specific one, there might be free apps on the net to remove it.

lol, if he\'s machine is going into standby mode every 2 minutes.. hows he gonna keep it running long enough to scan. hense why i sad it\'s pointless to try.. Only way to do it is if the hd is a slave or through a network..
-
"hence"
see if it happens if you\'re off line. if it doesn\'t, then it isn\'t a virus; they\'re hacking your box. :)
-
typo.. edit function was rooted, so i couldn\'t fix it. :)
-
Dude, THX thanks man. I think i caught a virus because I can\'t shut down my computer using the OS. And when I boot up I run a disk check and random files are "truncated"
-
I got worst problems now...
this happens in online races and crashes the game
I want to strangle the smart ass who made this
-
I\'M GOING TO PULL MY HAIR OUT IF THESE POPUPS KEEP COMING UP AND RUINING MY RACES ONLINE
-
did you ever format and resetup your system?
-
No the standby problem went away on its own. About a week ok it would do it every few hours then when I made this post it was doing it every 2 minutes i tried to scan for virus couldnt because it went to standby too often then it just fixed itself but NOW THESE POPUPS are everywhere....

Am I the only one that notices almost NO ONE on this board runs a frickin\' anti-virus at all times?
*shakes head*
Smart surfin\' along with protection stops these problems, people.
(1) Anti-virus.
(2) Firewall
(3) Spyware killer
(4) Don\'t authorize things that pop-up at p0rn sites.
(5) Don\'t open attachments , that you don\'t know about or who they came from.
Those five things stop a lot of these problems.

I always have anti virus on. Hate the damn thing, but I put up with it. I wish they would make it so it didn\'t slow down the darn computer so much.
-
Uh clowd, have you disabled Windows Messenger Service? Try doing that to get rid of your pop ups. Also EVERYONE who doesn\'t have anti virus software - go to http://www.grisoft.com and download AVG AV. Its free and gives you free updates. I use this for my laptop and have found that it is quite good. It also doesn\'t hog a lot of memory.

Download Spybot seek and destroy 1.2 and Ad-aware 6.0 to get rid of spyware also. This may help in reducing popups etc.
