boot to dos.. format.

no point trying a virus scan unless u can rip out your hd and put it into another machine as a slave then scan it.

Go here for a free scan to see if you actually have a virus:

http://www.mcafee.com/myapps/mfs/default.asp

If you do then you can purchase their anti-virus program which is about $35.  If the virus is Klez or Bugbear those can be removed for free (http://www.mcafee.com/anti-virus/virus_removal/default.asp).  Also tell us if it\'s a specific one, there might be free apps on the net to remove it.

lol, if he\'s machine is going into standby mode every 2 minutes.. hows he gonna keep it running long enough to scan. hense why i sad it\'s pointless to try.. Only way to do it is if the hd is a slave or through a network..

"hence"

see if it happens if you\'re off line. if it doesn\'t, then it isn\'t a virus; they\'re hacking your box. :)

No the standby problem went away on its own.  About a week ok it would do it every few hours then when I made this post it was doing it every 2 minutes i tried to scan for virus couldnt because it went to standby too often then it just fixed itself but NOW THESE POPUPS are everywhere....

Am I the only one that notices almost NO ONE on this board runs a frickin\' anti-virus at all times?

*shakes head*

Smart surfin\' along with protection stops these problems, people.

(1) Anti-virus.

(2) Firewall

(3) Spyware killer

(4) Don\'t authorize things that pop-up at p0rn sites.

(5) Don\'t open attachments , that you don\'t know about or who they came from.

Those five things stop a lot of these problems.

I always have anti virus on.  Hate the damn thing, but I put up with it.  I wish they would make it so it didn\'t slow down the darn computer so much.

Uh clowd, have you disabled Windows Messenger Service?  Try doing that to get rid of your pop ups.  Also EVERYONE who doesn\'t have anti virus software - go to http://www.grisoft.com and download AVG AV.  Its free and gives you free updates.  I use this for my laptop and have found that it is quite good.  It also doesn\'t hog a lot of memory.

Download Spybot seek and destroy 1.2 and Ad-aware 6.0 to get rid of spyware also. This may help in reducing popups etc.
