I\'m trying to either make screen caps or gifs from DVD\'s. I have a DVD drive, and a few different DVD viewers, but how can I create captures and gifs???
Its driving me nuts.

you can start by ripping the dvds into mpeg then avi format. http://www.vcdhelp.com
use virtual dub and take out the few seconds of animation u want. Then save it as a .avi file.. Get a program like gif construction set or animation shop..
Open the avi file then save it as a gif.
done.

or u could get a capture card, loop it from the output from a gfx card that supports Svideo out etc into your capture card.. Setup the gfx card in mirror mode. So it sends what you\'re viewing to your capture card. Start watch the dvd and capture it. Then continue from the virtual dub section above.
sorry bout making new post.. the save after editing part of the forum is rooted.

Oh boy that sounds like way too much work...
Can you only rip sections of the film or do you have to make a rip of the entire film first?
I will check out that site and see what I can do, I am trying to create a new avatarr.

if u can get "InterVideo WinDVD Recorder" its a nice program and its got a capture feature built in it.

Use DVD DVD Decrypter or SmartRipper. You can rip a whole DVD or just seperate chapters of your choosing. If you\'re not already into DV editing/encoding it will be semi-challenging.
I have used these to create collaborative projects in the past (never for piracy reasons) and it does take some getting used to.

I have InterVideo WinDVD 4 if that means anything.
I understand about file formats etc, its just that I am on dialup so downloading all these different encoding programs just doesn\'t sound like any fun.
I\'m messing with some stuff now.

I use PowerDVD, and it has a screen capture feature. Works very well.

Doh! Sped over your post Racer.. For grabbing still images just about any software DVD player works great. Just advance a frame and take another snapshot, then put em all together in Imageready.
-
how do you make a screen cap though? Pressing the PrntScn button does nothing, just a black canvas.
Hmm, i\'m still playing around with it.
