I can\'t bear anymore this old processor. I\'ve decided to buy a new one.
A friend visited me today and we were surfing a spanish site of pc components in order to update the PC. I NEED you to check these components and tell me if it\'s a good choice or if it\'s all crap. As you know, i\'m not specialist in Hardware, so any help will be welcomed. I don\'t have much money, so it\'s of vital importance to buy good components.
They are:
AMD Athlon XP +2.8 GHZ BARTON (194€)
Motherboard Abit NF7-SL 2.0 (navidia nForce) (109€)
512 DDR 333 KINGSTON (81€)
+shipping
TOTAL: 384€
What do you think?
-
That processor doesn\'t run at 2.8 ghz Adan, it only runs at 1.53ghz. My new computer has an Athlon XP +2400 and that runs at 2ghz.
-
What??? It\'s a 2.8 GHZ! How the hell it\'ll run at 1,53!?
-
Oh I see you edited your post!
It originally said Athlon XP 1800+ which is totally different to the Barton.
Forget the 1.53ghz then :D
-
Yes, I mispelt the description, sorry. Do you think it\'s a good purchase?
-
I don\'t know much about those Barton processors but at 2.8ghz it should be fast. I know mm doesn\'t like AMD processors though, although soulgrind loves them.:D
-
haha, you fell for the AMD naming hype
anyways, get intel
-
I chose AMD because they\'re really cheaper than INTEL at even the same speeds. Perhaps INTEL offers a slighty bigger performance, but not worth the 100€ of difference (IMO).

sucker
-
Well Adan, to mm clock speed is everything. I bet he\'ll hate the Opteron then.
Or how about the Centrino mobile processors? :p

I have the fealing that you would brakedown :crying: if someone replaced your MB & CPU for an Athlon and took your Nvidia and replaced it with ATI.
;)
-
someone would die
-
this is too funny.
here you go kid
Barton 2500 XP(best bang for buck out of all the Bartons) Overclock that sucker to a 3200.
Intel=Overpriced/overhyped money scam.
Although the new P4c\'s are not half bad(money/performance wise), The high end AMD chips, 2800, and the 400fsb 3000 xp are a ripoff.
-
intel = stability
this cannot be contested and worth the SMALL jump in price
you act like yer saving hundreds of dollars by buying a shitty AMD chip
-
one hundred to be exactly mm. And in this case 100€, which is more than $115.
-
you act like year saving hundreds of dollars by buying a shitty AMD chip
You are! The chip, the motherboards, the sockets stay the same with AMD(as with intel they force you to buy a new MB for every new chip revision) and AMD\'s are much better overclockers, since you can manually unlock them, unlike intel.
Shitty AMD chip huh, man you need to study "CPU Architecture" and you will then understand the beauty of AMD designs, as they have created much more intelligent and efficient Architectures than Intel has in the past 4 years.
Back in the old X86 days MHZ was the determent for speed, since all the chips were based off the same arc, but Architectrual design+MHZ=Speed today.
Comming from a big Intel buyer I can say that I prefer AMD chips over Intel, as I feel that the direction in which they are heading too is more in harmony with my tastes than Intel\'s stubborn monopolistic approach.
Intel bitches about how 64bit will not be need till 2010(funny how there itanium was a failure, while the Opterons are selling like crazy)
Anyhow I will say this the P4c are good chips and overclockers, but still I feel the bartons are much better(2500, the higher ones are overpriced, but that is temp) as well as AMD trend in the past 4 years, Intel could learn a few things from them
Actually the Bartons are palnned to take the Durons place 4-6 months after the AMD64 release.
Shit even there buddget chips will kick intels.
-
how long ago did AMD completely abandon the business market?
-
come on mm, you have a little love, opwn youyr heart up!
I\'m sure you can appreciate both Chips, as well as acknowledge intels faults or shall we say flaws.
Also If some of you were wondering about RAMBUS, they are still alive and are in the makings for the ps3 ram, They will not of course manufacture the ram, SAMSUNG etc... will.
RAMBUS had the speed, but High price(due to manufacturing process) and High Latency(although they never had the chance to further improve) kill them off.
On my rig upstairs I have 1GB of Samsung RDRAM pc1066 and beleive me it rivals the DDR 400(dual channel beats it, of course) and I have had that ram for over a year. DAMN
how long ago did AMD completely abandon the business market
I see you edited, annyhow Intel owns 80% of the semiconductor market, they are powerful company, the have the money to MASS market(as AMD does not) plus they have a fool name that\'s has been around long. What I mean about fools name is, the average Joe know\'s nor cares shit about CHIPS, therefore As long as it says INTEL(which they relate to, advertisment) with high speed sticker written on it, they are sold.
Also smart business have been investing in AMD computers to save money while getting equal ro better performance. Still Intel dominates, since DELL for example is the biggest provider for small to large business computers, and of Course Intel has them in there pockets. Unfortunate it is, that in life many superior idea\'s or desings are turned to dust by large bullies, like Intel or MS.
Like they say mm, 70% of the people are running a WinTel pc.
-
sorry bro, you have way to much to say on a dead topic
typical AMD fan
-
Looks great to me..
AMD rocks! Dont mind mm\'s dirty Intel propaganda. Mini-Goebbles he is ;)
-
hey, i really dont care if you guys wanna buy 2nd class hardware
-
NVIDIA256 the barton 2500 is a good oc\'er but i dont think Adan is gonna oc his rig so i think he should stick to the 2800.
so Adan go ahead and get those parts and try getting a good gfx card while yer at it ;).
-
Don\'t bother arguing with mm. It\'s like telling a wall to move. :p
-
hahaha, I don\'t like this to become a war. I haven\'t read very bad opinion to the people i\'ve asked for, apart from you, so i\'ll buy these components (+ another power supply for the new motherboard). I\'ve read really good reviews about this nForce motherboard and I\'ll definitely get it.
I hope to have luck and update my comp on Wednesday ;)
graphic card? Well I have an old GForce2, in the new update I\'ll insert another 512mb ram and a new graphic card. ATI or NVidia mm? :D
-
intel = stability
So i guess this is your way of say amd machines don\'t? :jack:
You really must have little to no experince with amd machines. It shows in everything you say. Don\'t tell me you do, otherwise your choice of words would be far from this. Please don\'t came back with opinions based on Tbird cpus either. It\'s an old outdated arguement.. Like your "benchtech experience" mm OUTDATED
In terms of performance.. a 1800+ will equal a 1.8ghz Intel cpu. Thats same on all P4 vs Tbred cpus. They call them 1800+ etc because of this simple reason. They do get hotter than intel cpus, but they are not unstable.
Adan
Get what you want to get. The choice you\'ve made is fine. I\'m planning on upgrading to a 2800+ tbred cpu myself.
Intel = Business mainstream.
Amd = Gamers choice.
That\'s based on the amounts of pcs i\'ve sold and the reasons with them. Nearlly every Intel machine sold was for a business. Most if not all AMD comps were for gamers.
-
I\'ve gotta side with mm.
Wintel software is written to run on wintel. Thus it\'s inherently less stable on other processors. That\'s what I\'ve experienced. Do you AMD fans mean to tell me that you haven\'t experienced it? I would be surprised.
-
Then came linux..

if u want a budget card definately get an Ati, for a high end card theirs the Fx5900 ultra :D ;).
btw stick with the parts you are going to order especially the Abit mobo it is a highly recommended product only other mobo u should consider is the Asus A7N8X.
