ok so i got myself a new motherboad today (nice one infact ) :D
Can go all the way upto 3 gig athlon and the bios can be upgraded via bios upgrade, AGP slot is X8. DDR mem slots only (has on board netword so bye bye old com 3)etc....etc....etc....
anyway on to my question at the moment my rather out moded MB only takes standard p133 memory (got two 128 and a 256) and seeing that the new MB is DDR only i have a dilema.
should i get the "bog" standard 333 or pay that little bit extra & get the all singing all danceing DDR400.
Will the diff be noticeable to justify the extra cash ?
1/2 a gig of DDR400 ?
or should i go cheap and get 1 gig of DDR 333 ?
(both of wich the 333 & 400 will be in the half a gig flavour).

I\'ll buy for my new motherboard 512MB of DDR 333.

So the diff is soo small its like my chances of being Miss USA 2004 ;) :p.

here is the thing with ram. Cas latency is more important then the difference between 333mhz vs 400
OCZ is the best bang for your buck ram at the moment, but if you want the best quality,CORSAIR is the way to go. Get there 333mhz
Crucial/aka micron ram is as well high quality, but lacks the performance of the high speed(cas L) ram compaines, CORSAIR, MUSKIN and OCZ.

I see nobody has anything else to say?

well u said all that their was to be said :).

Damn, i\'m used to usenet where some techee guy would try to say other wise just for the sake of exercising the mind. LOL
Well glad I could provide some info for you,
so what will be the purchase ooseven?

Crucial\'s the only stuff that goes in my machines but I haven\'t played around with diff brands really.
-
Yes Crucial is top stuff quality wise(one of the most rigoroust standards in testing) and warranty is great, You need to realize though that crucial ram is only mid level performance stuff.
If you want RAM with the same quality control standards as crucial, then that Company is CORSAIR. Keep in mind CORSAIR is not cheap stuff. Essentially you pay for the quality control. The high performance CRUCIAL of ram is CORSAIR.
Like I said before OCZ, MUSKIN, Twinx, are top performers like CORSAIR, but standard and quality wise they are not as Rigorous, yet not far behind. On thing to note is OCZ in the past 6 months has been producing sticks the same speed even faster then CORSAIR, but the quality is just under them still.(does not mean quality is bad, all these rams sticks are far superior to any generic crap, but in the anal sense. So for OCZ i give them an 8.5 for quality and CORSAIR+CRUCIAL a 10.

There\'s also kingston and samsung. Very good brands.
-
Samsung makes the pcb boards and the ram(aka RAMBUS) etc...DDR
Kingston I am not comfortable with. There are only a few compaines out there that make the PC ram, the rest just buy off them and label there name on them. Also the pcb board used is very important.
-
Kingston is one of the most trusted ram companies. You can\'t go wrong with Life time warranties. I personally have Kingston 266 DDR 512meg running at CL2.5 or CL2 without any problems what so ever.
Samsungs PC3200 DDR is one of the fastest chips out. Also one of the most stable when o/c\'d Tomshardware had a test comparing all 400 DDR chipsets (most popular) Samsung came out on top and passed every test without fail. Kingston came 3rd If I remember right.
-
I\'ve got 512 mb Kingston HyperX CL2. Haven\'t had any problems.
-
true kingston makes some pretty good modules in all but one pc in my house the ram is kingston, the one that sammy has is one of the best after crucial and muskin (imo). i\'ve got samsung PC800 RDram chips on my pc they\'ve got good transfer rates and great in general.

Samsungs PC3200 DDR is one of the fastest chips out
Like I said eairler ther is only a few companies that actually manufacture ram chips, SAMSUNG happends to be on them. For example, the ram used in CORSAIR and OCZ is the Samsung 6ns chips.
Your choice of ram depends alot on what your uses for the memory are going to be. If you want the best performing memory for a low price, then look no further Crucial is on the money. If you want the fastest possible configuration and you need the memory that is going to keep up with it, the Corsair line has proven itself worthy, an alternative to CORSIAR is MUSKIN as they have along history with memory, being one of the first to offer overclocking friendly PC133 memory back in the day, some MUSKIN modules even beat out the CORSAIRS.
AS for Kingston\'s RAM, they have been a very good option for those on a budget. Kingston never takes a crack at being the fastest memory out there. They do keep up with the times and produce good quality products at a low price, but at that price there is CRUCIAL, so why bother with Kinston. (ps edit, they do have the faster hyperx)
here click this link from crucial which comapres the two companies offerings.

Not to mention if you check http://www.resellerratings.com, Crucial has an almost perfect score and for good reason.

DDR400 vs DDR333.
DDR333 would be the better choice due to the cheaper price and there is hardly any performance difference between the two.
-
Got the DDR333 with that and my new motherboard things are moving quite nicely (even with just my Ge Force FX 5200).
Going to get a new CPU (maybe 3 gig athlon) and a new case (my current one has a few problem with over heating ).

Ah, i\'ll be updating my comp again soon too.. See my journal for info, but i\'ll be painting it too.. (side panels anyway) i hope it comes out great. :)

Nice :D
i was thinking about doing a spot of case modding but seeing that i will need up get a new case due to heat issues, i will have to wait :(.
-
I would paint my case, but since it\'s 100% aluminum, painting it would defeat the pu7rpose of the material, as the paint when then act as an insulator.
Maybe next time
-
i doubt anyone would wanna paint aluminum cases.. normally they look good the way they are.. :)
-
true to dat :eyemouth:

They don\'t make 3gig athlons

Yeah that :D. ;)
But its £300 for the bad boy.... might wait a few more months for the price to drop.
