Anyone have any reccomendations on what bodybuilding supplements to get? I was thinking of this (http://www.netrition.com/pinnacle_nox2_page.html) but I dont want to risk $40.
-
that stuff gives you a little muscle bloat, but no real strength gain, or lean muscle gain. Your best bet on sups are numero uno, Protein and lot\'s of it. Most people don\'t eat enough of it so that no matter how hard you workout your body can\'t complete protein synthesis, thus no muscle gain. Try to get about a gram of protein per pound of lean body mass, per day.
The second most important sup would be creatine. Besides anabolics, this is the only sure fire suplement. The idea behind creatine is that your muscle uses a fuel known as ATP. When you run out of ATP you experience muslce failure (you know how your arms feel after you max out on pushups? That\'s failure, just incase you didn\'t know what I meant) Creatine allows you to replenish ATP faster, thus you\'ll get about one more rep per set. This is the most important rep, the muscle builder, thus you will become stronger and bigger by using creatine. It will also give you a little muscle bloat because of the creatine, you\'ll look bigger immediatly.
Only side effect of creatine is cramps due to dehydration, so drink water and lots of it.
Another great sup would be L-Glutamine. When your body runs out of it\'s favored fuel sources, it will begin to eat muscle. This happens in just about everybody when they workout. This is called catobolism, while it doesn\'t nececarily mean you\'re loosing muscle while you workout, it does mean your taking 3 steps forward and two steps back. L-Glutamine has been proven to stave off catobolism, thus maximizing your gains.
Besides these the only other semi-effective and non-anabolic sups would be your Multi-Vitamins and HMB. HMB or Hydroxy Methylbyrate is semi effective, but over priced, so just ignore it.
*edit
forgot to mention that all these brand name overpriced sups are just the cheap stuff with added flavorings and empty carbs, so when you buy Creatine, or Glutamine, just buy the cheapest and purest stuff they have. GNC Pro Performance brands are good if you buy brick and morter, or on netrition EAS is good. As for protein, head on over to protein factory and make up your own back for about 4.75 per pound of whey protein.

I\'m gonna start workin out with Stapler, he\'s ripped like a pair of Abercrombie pants.

I only use whey protein... and this is what i use.

Its good stuff... im lucky cause im one of very few people who enjoys the taste of whey protein

I just started going to the gym a few weeks ago too. I ain\'t taking any supplements or anything, I\'m just there for a little weight loss. All I\'ve been doing is eating less and I\'ve already lost 7 pounds.
-
If you\'re lifting, don\'t expect to lose weight.
-
lol I studied the art of weight lifting as well as the supplements. 80% of them are garbage and mostly composed of expensive marketing.
That\'s right "EAS"(ok stuff, but charges twice the amount it\'s worth)
MET-RX(again average, nothing special but they do spend money to advertise)
etc......
Please pm for info on supplements and what exactly are your goals in the gym.
Either that or waist your money on the sups(especially the ones you don\'t need) and gym time.
PS..Stay away from Muscle-tech, GOD are they the worst sup out there, all crap.
-
I disagree, EAS is decently priced. 500 grams of creatine for 12 bucks isn\'t bad at all. There may be cheaper stuff out there, but not much cheaper.
As for met-rx, alot of their stuff is overpriced but mass action is actually pretty cheap when you look at the ingredients. Creatine, HMB, TMG and L-Glutamine, go and try to buy that stuff individually for cheaper, you\'ll be hard pressed.

Actually lifting is better for losing fat then cardio.... As long as you take in less than your daily calorie limit. Just dont expect to put on much muscle at all.
-
I\'ve dropped considerabe amounts of fat, and gained muscle through heavy weight training. The beauty of weight training is that one session at my intensity burns about 600-800 calories, then you also have the increase of muscle, and more muscle means more burning of fat and distribution of the lipids from your fat stores to inside your muscles.

Your kidding right? If you really work hard in ur weight training excercises then you\'ll lose alot of weight in the areas you are working. Now if you do speed weights, then you\'ll drop it really fast.
-
Sure you\'ll burn fat and look better, but you\'ll weigh more. That\'s all I\'m saying.
-
Oh well in that case, thats just because of muscle growth but it\'s obvious you understand that.
[EDIT] Aggilities will also create muscle growth (thought not quite as much), about 70 to 80 percent of my workout now consists of extreme running and aggilities. Do that for a while and you\'ll defintely feel the burn.

I had no idea weight lifting burned so many calories! Not even running for half an hour burns that many calories for me. What "kind" of lifting do you do omen?
Also, what kind of diet do you have?

What kind of aggilities do you do? Like suicide runs (run to a mark and back, extending by 10 yards each rep, 5 reps total)?
-
my lifting is extreme, i spend around 4 hours in the gym a day, in one form or another. i should have mentioned that. if you want real calorie burning, obviously cardio is the best.
-
Wow 4 hours.
Actually, lifting does take up lots of time. When I go, I do 30 min cardio and by the time I\'m done "lifting" my total gym stay is almost 2 hours. Must be all those breaks to the water fountain.

Usually I start off with ladders, you know the ones that you just lay on the ground. We have about 5 or 6 different excercises for those. I go about 4 times completely through with each excercise, without stopping. By the end you should have achieved a puddle of sweat easily. These are just the warm ups though.
Sometimes we put cones at the end of the ladders and cut around them and what not, or shuffle. When your done doing the ladders, you\'ve covered already a few hundered yards. If I mess up I run suicides or yo-yo\'s...kind of a mental thing, to teach me not to mess up as much.
I also set up various obstacle courses that require me to shift into many modes in one setting. At the end of the course I usually have weighted jumpropes and do about 50 reps, these will burn the hell out of your triceps...it feels so good.
I also have many other things I do(all this in the turf room by the way) which I cant really recall. After that I take it to the football field and run 200 yard sprints but with various things mixed in. Like say on one every 5 steps I\'ll dip down with one hand and touch the grass, then the other, then both, and then I jump as high as I can in the air. It sounds lame but you do that for a bit and I promise you\'ll feel it.
Again I do so many various things day to day I cant remember them all, but usually towards the end of a workout I\'ll run dead sprints till I just crap out or what not. Running is not necessarily something you put sets to, it\'s something you really got to learn to push yourself at. Just push yourself a little harder each time. I also to a series of pull ups at the end, by this time Im completely drained and it requires me to put forth a little more effort. After a good rest I go to the weights and when Im done with weights it\'s right back to running a little more.
....If you really want to get strength in your legs let me recomend running with sleds, are if you dont have a sled present just tie a rope to a tire and an innertube. Put the innertube around your body and pull like hell.

Word, I took a karatie class for a while but had to quit because of athletics. We did the whole sparring bit, which afterwards usually resulted in me curlling in a ball and whimpering like a baby.

I usually excercise my legs when I walk back and forth to the bathroom and my TV room and I\'m still a lean 180..woot...err..for the moment, that is.
