I have way more then one but my current favorite is from Jesus
"Happy are those hungering and thirsting for righteousness, since they will be filled."
-Mathew 5:6
Lately I have had a strong desire to learn more about God, and this scripture gives me hope that if I am thirsting for righteousnss, I will be filled
-
Please be carefull about what you say around people...that came of kind of rude. Some of us have different beliefs and thats alright.
As for me clowd, there are alot of things in proverbs and psalms that are great for spiritual growth.
-
There are a lot of good quotes in the Bible. Lots of funny stuff too.
For example, how God dictates that if you have feelings of homosexuality you should restrain them because it\'s the not the way of things in our world.. and yet plenty of homosexuals worship at the Catholic church..
Very hypocritical; it goes to show you how much things have gotten corrupted..
Just a note: I\'m going to disregard any posts made to challenge my opinion, heh.. :)
-
Why should I challenge your opinion when it is right?
Here is another good scripture, not a quote but very interesting indeed, I never noticed it until a few days back
There are, in fact, many other things also which Jesus did, which, if ever they were written in full detail, I suppose, the world itself could not contain the scrolls written."
-John 21:25
Makes you think that the things written in the Bible that Jesus did was just a fraction of the things he did. The things written were the things that we could benefit from today the most.
-
Not sure which part of the bible it\'s from but I did see it in there,
"If your right hand sins cut it off and cast it away"
Now if that is refering to masturbation there is going to be a lot of slow typing in these forums. :D
-
I liked the part where Noah was loading Triceratops onto the Arc. That part was classic. I don\'t know the exact words, maybe Racer can find it. :)

Bah, a slelected few of you are ruinin the thread.
Let me flip through my bibble. Yes, my bibble.
-
First of all, anyone who uses this thread to point out hypocracy or inconsistancy in the Bible loses my respect in this thread. And this comes from an athiest. Whether you believe or not, you can still take a lot from this book if you give it a chance.
I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice, and to do good as long as they live.
- Ecclesiates 3:12
One that I like. Chapter three of the book of Ecclesiates is my favorite.

Wow... Tony, I didn\'t think I could have any more respect for you, but now it\'s through the roof. That is a very strong point.
P.S. Awesome scripture too

Being a "non-religious" man myself, I\'ve always wanted to take a gander at the Bible. Some of the stuff seems pretty interesting! :)
Anyway, since I\'ve never read it, I don\'t have a favorite quote.

Shut up :p
I havent read the whole thing but i have stayed fairly religious over the years. It seems though that i get less and less religious over time, but i have a very strong desire to belive. Its just hard to bring myself to do so. Not only that but there are so many divisions and a nice number of religions that are both very simillar and different. I just dont know. But since im still religious basically i consider myself to be a baptist or something along those lines, (that is the crazy black churches and the singing. I love my church. I couldnt see myself going to any other. Its very successful too. Its large and it does a lot to help children and help them learn the word of god). Very nice
-
I picked up the bible once, read about 2 pages and got bored... I\'m just not into that stuff. :)
-
Aw, I wanted to make a joke, but now I can\'t. Silly people.
Well, perhaps if I sneak in a real quote as well...
Alright my two favorite parts of the Bible are:
"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine; but a broken spirit drieth the bones."
- Proverbs 17:22
"The End"
Either way, I\'m not defending people making fun of the Bible in this thread, or those who point out inconsistencies etc. But one has to ask himself if PSX2Central is the best place to ask for a serious discussion of The Bible. And since this thread is coming from Clowd I have my beliefs that this wasn\'t thought out very well.
-
I agree Samwise... I think a bible discussion thread isn\'t suited too well with OT. But I\'m sure the members are mature and respectful enough to keep their rash opinions to themselves.
-
"and Jesus went within the bodega ordering a beef patty with cheese, and it was good"
Book of Sharpton Chapter 987 Verse G-24
This is part of the sequel to the Bible that I am writing. Should be in stores this winter if I\'m not struck by lightning first.
-
I have no doubts now. Look at the way he expresses, the status name, the threads... what sect do you belong to?
j/k. My favourite quote:
(Audi spot, season 02-03)

I like the epic battle between jesus, satan and godzilla. The part where yoda comes in at the last second and saves jesus is great.
Aren\'t there some bible forums you can post in?
here is one.

I know that Clowd wasn\'t ill willed in his topic, so it wasn\'t right for the last two posters to be complete asses.
edit:excluding Adan, the other last two posts.
-
Why you think this should be posted at some other forums is beyond me. If anything that\'s just a testament to the immaturity of the people here. If you don\'t have something to add to the topic, just don\'t post. It\'s really that simple.
The fact that Clowd posted the topic also should make no difference. If I had posted this topic, would you be replying differently?
-
If your status name was Slave of Jesus and you asked for your favourite Bible sentence... probably yeah.
-

How was I being a complete ass? People do the same shit in every thread in OT and now we are asses? Choke on a dick and die.
-
I dont think the smart ass comments can be avoided, I guess some feel they have to give out insults without directly giving them out if you know what I mean. Like Shock said though, if this kind of talk isnt your cup of tea then just refrain from making comments...infact just dont click on the thread. I think you\'ll find yourself much happier because enough harsh comments is going to end up in a thread full of filth. When ever I find a thread I feel can be an insult to me or what I believe, just to keep anger from stirring up inside of me I simply stay away. It\'s that simple.
-
In these forums, every topic will have 1-2 posts that are jokes. And that\'s at the very least. Just because some people think religion is untouchable, doesn\'t mean these posters were asses, they\'re just treating this thread like any other thread.
-
Religion isn\'t untouchable, it\'s just some people\'s basis for their lives and should at least be respected. We\'re not talkin about someone\'s new car, or home, or favorite football team. A good way to respect it is if you don\'t wish to contribute, don\'t post in the thread.
-
This is one of my favorites:
"If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." (1 Corinthians 13:1-7)
-
^^^ Yeah thats a really popular one. Nice.
-
Which version of the Bible do you people read? I have a couple versions around, and I never know which one to look at. The differences in translation are pretty noticable.

Nowadays the NIV translation is the best one to read.

Is that the fiability of a holy book?
-
yeah, NIV (new international version) is what most people read nowadays. They took out all of the ye olde speak, and used more common, modern english.
Although you\'ll get the jist and meaning behind older versions (such as the King James version), the NIV bibles are much clearer and better written for modern times.
-
A holy book shouldn\'t be changed all along the years... Like for example Coran. If Jesus or God or whoever wanted to transmit those words that are supposed to be sacred.. you shouldn\'t change any.
-
nothing has changed content wise in the newer versions, the existing stories and passages are simply re-worded to be clearer and easier to understand. But I can see how some people would have the opinion you do Adan.
-
Ah, the cliffy version. ;)
-
The King James version was never "authentic" either. It was just another of many translations. The issue is whether the editors of this NIV version worked from an existing english translation, or if they went back to the source (Hebrew?) to create that version. If they\'re just cleaning up someone else\'s translation, then errors could be compounded, and the content could be compromised. That\'s always been the reason for my distrust of "modern language" versions.
-
I agree with Adan. It shouldn\'t have been changed. The Bible (both OT and NT) was originally in Greek way back when because Greek was the universal language then like English is now. Even when the originally Hebrew scriptures were translated into Greek, there were some words that couldn\'t be translated. This is the reason why Michelangelo\'s (? or Donatello...I forget) statue of Moses has horns. I forget what they were trying to translate in the first place. Anyways, I think the originals should have been kept around, for just in case references.
However, I do think there should be the vernacular versions (modernized versions) because it helps people today understand the word of God better. After the Greek translation came out, the monks translated them into Latin. During the Reformation, educated people who viewed the Catholic Church to be corrupt (ie Martin Luther, etc.) wanted to help their fellow man who couldn\'t read Latin gain access to a Bible that was in the everyday language (vernacular). That way the less educated wouldn\'t be taken advantage of by the church. Nowadays our reason to modernize the Bible is to help us understand it better without the need of Cliffsnotes (and yes, they do make OT and NT Cliffsnotes). I\'m sure kids who are really dedicated to their church want to be able to enjoy reading the Bible and learning the lessons without treating it like Shakespeare (which BTW I hate seeing modernized in movies like "10 Things I Hate about You" and Baz Luhrmen\'s "Romeo and Juliet").
Yeah...that\'s my rant for the rest of this month.
And my favorite quote, "Noli me tengari." ~Jesus. I\'m not Christian and have only read the Bible once so I haven\'t found my absolute favorite. This will suffice for now.
-

Ironic time for this thread to pop up. I am the closest to having faith in something, just something, as I have ever been at this moment.

Awww all the controversy Im about to stir....
Pro-Choice???
Jeremiah 20:14-18
Cursed be the day I was born! the day when my mother bore me, let it not be blessed! Cursed be the man who brought the news to my father, "A son is born to you," making him very glad. Let that man be like the cities which the Lord overthrew without pity; let him hear a cry in the morning and an alarm at noon, because he did not kill me in the womb; so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb for ever great.. Why did I come forth from the womb to see toil and sorrow, and spend my days in shame?
Belive me??
2 Thessalonians 2:11-12
Therefore God sends upon them a strong delusion, to make them believe what is false, so that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Is the death of a fetus is a misdemeanor or murder??
Exodus 21:22-25
When men strive together, and hurt a woman with child, so that there is a miscarriage, and yet no harm follows, the one who hurt her shall be fined, according as the woman\'s husband shall lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. If any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

Rapture
Waiting to capture that moment
Postponement
Suspension of rational movement
And bang on the hour of twelve
To a forest clearing we\'ll delve
With guns to our heads
For we know
That Heaven awaits us
Dreaming of that perfect home by the Sun
Run! Christian, Run!
Roaming
Roaming from all tribulation
Leaving
Leaving behind all damnation
With women and children in line
The men will then gather behind
With knives to their throats
They\'ll depart on the midnight train to Jordan.
Still dreaming of that perfect home by the Sun
Run! Christian, Run!
Still wishing for that perfect home by the Sun
Come! Kingdom, Come!
-super furry animals: Run! Christian, Run!
in the video for this song they point out that making fun of bald people is a crime punishable by death according to the bible, along with about 10 other stupid things. I\'ll watch it afer dinner
and write down the verse names and numbers...
;) BTW, I\'m not trying to be a dick... just to voice my opinions just like everyone else.

God intended for the bible to be translated so everyone could understand it. Thats the whole idea behind bringing new believers to follow Christ...it\'d be a little difficult to save people if the bible wasnt translated. The only words that are even changed or say "thee", which would be "you" in todays terms. Just insignifcant things like that...the bible it\'s self hasnt changed a bit.
-
ok, ate, drank and was merry: watched it...
all of these are punishable by death according to the bible:
(please quote scriptures if you want, I don\'t have a bible. any
help would be appreciated. )
Birth control:
Gen 38:10-11
Homosexuality:
Lev 20:13
Psychic counselling:
Chr 10:13
Remarrying after divorce:
Matt 5:32
Overeating:
Psalm 78:31
Working on Saturday:
Deut 31:15
Disobeying Parents:
Deut 21:20-21
Making fun of bald people:
Kings 2:23-24
I have been interested to see what these passages say. If you wanna quote, please let me know which version you are quoting from.
thanks.

My favorite quote? Thats easy.
"Yippee kai ya motha fu#*ker"
Thats my favorite quote. Oh wait , we\'re talking about the bible? Oops. :o

Slaves
Hebrews born to serve, to the pharaoh
Heed
To his every word, live in fear
Faith
Of the unknown one, the deliverer
Wait
Something must be done, four hundred years
So let it be written, so let it be done
I\'m sent here by the chosen one
So let it be written, so let it be done
To kill the first born pharaoh son
I\'m creeping death
Now
Let my people go, land of Goshen
Go
I will be with thee, bush of fire
Blood
Running red and strong down the Nile
Plague
Darkness three days long, hail to fire
So let it be written, so let it be done
I\'m sent here by the chosen one
So let it be written, so let it be done
To kill the first-born pharaoh son
I\'m creeping death
Die by my hand
I creep across the land
Killing first-born man
Die by my hand
I creep across the land
Killing first-born man
I
Rule the midnight air, the destroyer
Born
I shall soon be there, deadly mass
I
Creep the steps and floor, final darkness
Blood
Lamb\'s blood, painted doors, I shall pass
So let it be written, so let it be done
I\'m sent here by the chosen one
So let it be written, so let it be done
To kill the first-born pharaoh son
I\'m creeping death
;)

I think you need to read the Bible more, son. :iono:
Seriously, just find your favorite verse, and next time you\'re in a bookstore, look it up in 4 or 5 different versions of the book. They change more than "thee" and "you." It\'s not hard to produce dramatic changes in meaning with even the simplist different choices in translation.
-
sigh, again...basically they just change simple words. Like from the King James to the NIV. I can also asure you, if you took the bible back when it was first originally put togeather in it\'s full form and then one of todays bibles it would be about 98 percent of the same message. Please dont make me get into a debate with you about this.
I\'ll pull out my NIV or NAS, then a King James tommorow and show you what I mean. But when Im reading along in all Bibles I get the exact same message...thats really all Im saying.
-
It\'s times like this when I really wish I could moderate topics, just to delete half of the shit posted in this topic. I was actually interested in reading this as a real topic. All you who couldn\'t take it seriously or thought this was your opportunity to take the thread in a totally different direction from where it was intended, fuck you.

Although you later said this wasn\'t directed at anyone, I feel compelled to answer. Clowd is notorious in religious debates. I have my doubts about his intelligence, but I won\'t go further into that here.
Besides, anyone has the right to post their opinion here. Even Clowd for that matter. But you must still be prepared to face other opinions than your own (i.e. Bible bashing, jokes and the like). If YOU (generally speaking) can\'t take that, then perhaps YOU shouldn\'t be reading this thread in the first place.
Again, let me stress how I don\'t think posting a serious discussion about the bible in the (infamous?) OT part of PSX2Central is a good idea. It can NOT have come as a surprise to anyone that he wouldn\'t only get 100% serious posters in the thread. If he or anyone else can\'t deal with that, then they might consider:
- posting it at a serious religious forum
- accept the possibility of \'jokers\'
- not posting it in the first place
-
If I posted a poem I worte about how baby bunnies make me cry, I would expect to have peeps jump all over my shit. Anytime you
wear your beliefs and your heart on your sleeve in public, expect
to be picked on here. It\'s that simple. If you want a serious bible
discussion, go to a bible forum. This isn\'t a support group, it\'s an
off-topic forum. Unless I broke the forum rules, then I\'ll post any
jokes I want about anything I want.

First of all, I don\'t think the fact that Clowd posted it should have any bearing on how the thread is treated. Sure he has a bad history with this stuff, and I know that as well as anyone. I\'m usually the first person arguing against what he\'s saying. But I think that until he does something wrong in this thread, which he hasn\'t, you can\'t hold that against him here.
As for the whole being prepared to face opinions other than your own, fine. The people who posted bible quotes that showed things bad about the christian religion, even those are fine. But the people who just came in here to post something mindlessly bashing Clowd or religion are out of place. First of all, it is off the topic which was posted, something that posts are deleted for at times in other topics. If you wanna post something else about religion, fine. Make a new topic. But there are people here who wanted to see where this topic would go on the topic it was posted as. I think it\'s only fair to give those people a chance to see that, without posting the amount of totally needless, mindless, and pointless bashing content that people have.
Chizzy, you didn\'t break a rule. You didn\'t do anything wrong by the forum rules. I just suppose I sometimes expect people to have a little common courtacy and respect, and show a bit of maturity. Then again, I guess as you all said, if I\'m expecting any of that, I\'m in the wrong place.

Shockwaves is absolutly right. Funny if you guys were talkin about monster trucks or you\'re favorite 80\'s cartoon, and I were to post mindless blabber, I would have people all over my ass and then get banned for a week. How about moderators quit holding people to different standards and start enforcing some f**king rules around here. It\'s bullcrap.

Cause the mods do it to,If they banned people for doing that they would be hypocrites.

I actually agree as well. I\'ve kept from posting in this thread because I didn\'t want to come off as a dick. I figured I\'d just jump in, rag on Racer, and leave.
This topic should be about bible verses. God knows we\'ve had enough discussions about the bible. May as well have one where people can post scriptures. I for one wouldn\'t read half of what you guys wrote because it doesn\'t interest my in the slightest. Only reason I am even replying is because I have a differing opinion than Samwise.
Topics do change sometimes, actually quite often, but people do come down on the people who change the topic so why not here as well.

Mods can\'t ban. If I were a mod, I\'d simply say to keep on topic, and delete posts that aren\'t.
-
Alright, I\'ve seen the light. :)
From now on I\'ll delete any posts in this thread not related to favorite quotes in the bible. I\'ll leave in the existing posts, but any and all new posts not on topic shall be deleted.
Edit: 7/25-03: Sorry about deleting your post Björn. ;)

"When I was a babe, I used to speak as a babe, to think as a babe, to reason as a babe; but now that I have become a man, I have done away witht he traits of a babe."
-1 Corinthians 13:11
This is true to me. I, like the Apostle Paul before me, I have become a man, no more shall I do and think and act the ways of a babe. For the ways of a babe I have displayed at this forum, but now I am a man, strongly entrenched in the teachings of Jesus Christ our Lord.

****QUOTE OF THE DAY 7/25/03****
" To the stupid one the carrying on of loose conduct is like sport, but wisdom is for the man of discernment."
-Proverbs 10:23
If you would like to explain what you think this means, or have a comment about it, you may do so.
I\'ll try to get a quote in everyday if possible
