Is there anything I can do to make HD material on WM9 play better?

I have a 1.4ghz comp with 384 of ram.  Is my computer just too slow or can I get a better video card or something.

With WM9 you just need raw processing power from the CPU as there are no available hardware decoder cards yet for the codec.  a 2.8Ghz is usually recommended for the 1080i stuff.  See how well your computer can play the files here:

You may have better luck with these as they are mpeg-2 transport streams straight from an HD feed.  Rename the files to .trp and play em in WinDVD or donwload VideoLAN.

Ah..  I was hoping a video card could help me out.  When I get my new set I\'d love to use this computer in there for a bit to watch some movies with.  I would just need to get a better sound card. Mine sizux for HT applications.  I guess I\'ll wait another year or so to build a computer dedicated for my home theater.

I\'ve had this same problem.  I picked up the T2 "extreme" edition DVD, and attempted to play it on my PC.  The PC meets all the system requirements they list on the case, but the playback was still a little choppy.  Frames would freeze about once very 5-6 seconds.

It\'s incredibly stupid that they would market this 1080i transfer of the film without listing the correct system requirements.  You either need to run it on HAL 9000 in software mode, or have a hardware decoder (which apparently doesn\'t exist yet)?  Unbelievable.

Well, in a couple of years we should be able to play it flawlessly. :)

I\'m thinking that possibly the next generation(end of 2004) of Grapahic cards might have built in hardware support?
