Title: Heat in Britain
Post by: dawid22 on August 06, 2003, 12:47:54 AM
Man, last night I laughed  .  Sorry guys but, to me, it is just so funny:laughing: .  The people were nearly dying of the heat - 36 degrees.?!?!?  In South Africa 36 degrees in the summer is a nice day...In fact there were a few days in winter that went up to 33 degrees.  We only complain when we hit between 46 - 50 degrees.  I was watching SkyNews last night (Yes, we have satilite dishes in Africa too :surprised ) and saw how some people did not even go to work because it was so "very hot".  If we had to stay off work because it was 36 degrees we would be fired.

Anyway, I suppose our winters are not as cold as yours though.  Reaching a minimum of roughly 09 degrees in winter.   So we would probably shit ourselves with your kind of cold.

Nothing much to it, just felt like telling you guys.:D

Well, I personally can\'t stand much more than 30 max. I like 25 just fine. Anything over 30 is just too much for my fragile Scandinavian body. :)

But we also have colder winters here (and are not used to heat much above 30 C) - thus it feels damn warm w/ 30+.

Why don\'t you stfu? You might be used to it, but we are not, so don\'t take the piss. It\'s not funny, and it\'s not appreciated.

Once again, I reiterate...........

STFU!!!

Man, normally, we are at around 90 F ... it seems like seattle here.
70 F and humid, sorta like a northwest rainforest.

I like super cold windy winters and hot humid summers. Living in both extremes have helped me cope. :)

nO-One u\'d melt if u come to Bahrain lol ;).
one thing i hate most about the heat is what comes with it i.e humidity my gawd if u step out of an A/C\'ed building u\'d be soking wet from all the moisture.
another bad thing is when u open the doors suddenly a superheated burst of air just smaks u in the face :(.

You weak cave dwelling Northerners should take a trip to Phoenix AZ right about now.  Well see how you like 53 degrees C.  :)

My apartment building here in LA was purchased by a guy from Chicago last year.  He immediately installed air conditioning.  It\'s such a stupid waste of money.  There are only about 3-4 days a year when I might even consider turning on the AC, yet he has his running for 7 continuous months.  It\'s hilarious.

Las Vegas\' heat is slightly overrated. It\'s just dry heat. You live here for about a year and you get used to it, nothing bad.

Anders Celsius (1701-1744).

0 = water freezes
100 = water boils

Very easy to understand, thank you Anders! ;)

A while a go we used to call celcuis "centigrade", now it seems we have reverted back to celcius again. Very strange.

Heat is not really a problem, its the humidity mixed with it.

Like, in Brisbane, an average Summers day would be like 33 C, but that same 33 C feels so different if the day is really really humid.

I cannot imagine living where it gets up to 50 C... That is CRAZY.

Post by: CHIZZY on August 07, 2003, 04:27:02 AM
I get confused by celsius... For instance, if the weatherman says
it\'s gonna be 75, I know it will be nice and comfortable, while 80 is
starting to get a little hot. That\'s probably only 1 degree difference in C!

Now don\'t start correcting my math, \'cos I didn\'t even try. :p

Can\'t we all just get along? ;) besides, it sounds much more impressive
in the winter when it gets 10 degrees below zero here!
Title: Heat in Britain
Post by: ##RaCeR## on August 07, 2003, 04:37:09 AM
32 F > 0 C

76 F > 24 C

80 F > 26 C

2 Degree\'s Chizzy!

Seriously though, its not really hot unless it gets over 35 C/95 F.

F is kinda better cause the numbers are bigger, but C (metric) makes so much more sense.

Its actually easier and makes more sense to drive on the right, but thats another argument...

Why does it make more sense to drive on the right?  It\'s essentially the same, just opposite.

Try driving a import car in the US from the UK

i drove an American car over here in the UK and its a nightmare to see on some junctions because they are all setup for right hand drive cars.

Plus, it must have freaked you right out to drive a car that doesn\'t
look like a baby pram! :D

chizz i was more concerned with the fuel economy and the fact it was like driving something that resembled a super tanker down the street.

also what’s up with the suspension have you heard of SPRINGS ? the damn thing drove like a cheesecake.

Also it was a automatic :(, don\'t you Americans know how to drive a "Stick Shift" i think its called.

over here i took great delight in changing from 4th gear down to 2nd gear so that i can over take.

Phaaaa European cars >>>>>>>>>> American Cars. :D

Well, I do agree that european cars are probably better at a lot of
things, but I will roll over your ass with my 4x4 when your springs
blow out on your dodgy pot-holed roads, then tow you to a
garage. :D

/me smells a flame war for liking my blazer...  ;)

Nice car! My dad drives a blazer. :)

Very easy to drive.. no need to worry about the clutch..

My old Honda didn’t pass the car inspection *sniff* :(
I need to repair the rusted beam.

I am confused.  All cars are driven so the driver is on the inside of the road.  If you are on the right hand side of the road then your car\'s driver\'s seat is on the left side.  and Vice Versa, so there is no difference.

As far as stick v automatic.  No clue what you are talking about.  American cars have stick.

Well it\'s still pretty hot here, I just went into the garden with a thermometer and it is 35C which is 95F and that is at 5pm! It isn\'t just the ambient temp either, it\'s the damn humidity. I wish I had air conditioning like everyone in america seems to have. :(

Just for the record, the highest temperature ever recorded in the UK is 37.1C which is 99F back in 1990. The weather forcast says this might be beaten tomorrow.

He\'s talking about MT vs. AT.  "Stick" = MT, which is a stupid thing many americans say.  The majority of cars sold in the US are AT.

 On a lot of summer days here in America, it can be over 100 F. We have had stretches of 105-110 degree days. You complain of 95 degree weather? I know your not used to it but to me its funny :) Man, its 80 right now (rain for the last week) and I have my nice central air system on :p Its set to like 70 degrees and it feels so good :p

I\'m pretty used to 100+ weather, but the second it gets below 60, I\'m not a happy camper.  Basically I\'m happy as long as the weather permits the wearing of tank tops and shorts.  Anything colder is just nasty.
