The only time we ever hear news out of Iceland, it\'s bad news.
I don\'t know why anyone wants to kill whales anyway. We\'ve been doing fine without them for many years now, why can\'t we just leave them in peace?

Well as much I am against whale hunting, it\'s kinda necesary around here.
Our econimy is based around fishing....whales eat....a lot and it\'s beginning to hurt normal fishing. And besides it\'s not an all out hunting season, they can only hunt a few.
But rest assured, people around here are going nuts, protests and whatnot.
And besides, we must kill the whales, everybody knows they have weapons of mass destruction and are out to destroy peace as we know it.
j/k :p

Whale\'s are part of the "axis of evi"....Must..kill..the..whales.
-
Whales are useless creatures.
-
Plus they poop a lot.
-
They\'re cool to look at.. and make funky sounds. Watch Finding Nemo for proof.
-
They\'re just animals.
-
sperm.
-
I speak whale as well as Dory.
-
Mr Spock can talk to whales. Apparently Gracie is pregnant!

Humans are much more useless creatures for this planet than whales.

Damn you No-one don\'t you realise that your actions will doom planet earth & the furutre Federation, as a large Cylindrical Alien probe from a unknown region of our galaxy comes to Earth in an attempt to contact the Whale civilisation of our planet.
/me runs out side looking for a Klingon Warbird with Kirk and Co to “Save the Whales”.

I think you should trap the whales and train them. You could take them to people\'s houses, put them in their pools and do kiddy shows.

Fook sake Vid... what kind of backyard pool do you have ?
Olympic size swimming pool size ;)
-
Well I would get the little whales. They don\'t have to be huge ones...
I mean the whale probably wouldn\'t be able to do much in the pool other than sunbathe, but kids will love him.
-
It makes me sick. I just got back from a whale watch in Boston, perhaps people don\'t realize that just maybe we wouldn\'t have endangered species if we didn\'t hunt them.

Well, the country needs fishing and I\'m sure they\'re only taking out controlled groups of some whales.
On another matter... "The United States is disappointed in Iceland\'s decision to begin scientific whaling" - yeah, and I\'m disappointed the US wouldn\'t sign the Kyoto treaty when countless other countries did. Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone - isn\'t that how the saying goes?
-
That Kyoto Treaty is a joke. The US would stand to lose billions of dollars from it while other countries exempt from the Kyoto treaty would still be belching smoke.
Anyway....this is another topic. :p
What kind of whales are there? I thought they eat mostly plankton and smaller fish and not the ones humans eat.
-
Never mind.
DIET AND BALEEN
Minke whales (like all baleen whales) are seasonal feeders and carnivores. They sieve through the ocean water with their baleen. They filters out small polar plankton, krill, and small fish, even chasing schools of sardines, anchovies, cod, herring, and capelin. They have the same diet as blue whales.

What other countries? As far as I remember, every major country (and not so major) signed the treaty. Except for the US of course.
Just seems pretty hypocritical to me to bash a (very small) nation for taking out a few whales to support one of their few trades, when oneself is unwilling to cut back on pollution. But you\'re right, that\'s a whole other topic. I just brought it up to show how silly the quote "dissappointed with..." etc. really was.
