Mazda Motor Corporation will unveil an all-new Zoom-Zoom concept car at the 60th International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt next month. The Mazda Kusabi - a small, lightweight, diesel-powered sports car concept - clearly indicates Mazda\'s current direction in its effort to expand its future presence in the compact car segment.
Mazda Kusabi
Mazda Kusabi is a true design concept that showcases Mazda efforts to further develop innovative access systems, packaging solutions and its own, unique design language. Kusabi, when translated from Japanese, means "wedge," but can also mean "making way for something new." And in this sense, Mazda Kusabi presents a new direction for Mazda compact cars, presented as a small, modern sports car with a stylish and aggressive exterior, environmentally friendly 1.6-litre common-rail diesel engine, and driving characteristics that can make everyday city commuting and driving fun and exciting.
The exterior design is highlighted by sharp press lines extending from the bonnet through the body sides to the rear of the car, large wheels and pronounced fenders, and an undeniable "reverse wedge" extending from the A-pillars rearward. The result is a stylish and aggressive sports car concept equipped with a revolutionary tailgate mechanism that allows easy access to the luggage compartment, improving overall functionality for the everyday use.

Looks pretty sweet, especially if there\'s a hot hatch/coupe model.

Fast, they are concepts, supposed to look like this!
Your comparing 2003 Japan to 1969 Americana....
-
Im just saying..
In general.
Old cars > New Cars
:) :p
-
I fixed your friggen thread title.. Oh yeah, ugly car. Does everything have to look like a civic?
-
What is grammatically wrong with "Mazda are onto a winner"?
I got an A in English...
-
Mazda is singular. It\'s a group.
-
But there are many people that work for Mazda.
I was kinda meaning their design team, R&D team etc, ie the whole group...
Never mind, your right.
-
nice ford there

Shouldn\'t that be "you\'re right"? ;)

how did YOU get an A in English? You clearly have not mastered the

EDIT: sorry, sammy, I jumped the gun on that one.... :D

Ok, so they\'re supposed to look ugly and stupid as hell. Well, that doesn\'t help me at all. The fact is, the whole idiotic jag the car designers have been on for the last 3-4 years makes me want to upchuck. I f*cking hate those damn crease lines everywhere, and the stupid intersecting surfaces like the fenders, and pointy bits like the joint of the two windows at the "c" pillar are utterly revolting. Yes, concepts are supposed to look outlandish compared to the production car, but this isn\'t THAT far removed from what\'s actually being produced right now. Mazda is already doing shit like this with the Mazda 6 and the RX-8.
Speaking of the RX-8, Mazda better get their heads out of their asses soon. The regular news media hasn\'t picked it up yet, but there is a HUGE problem developing with the real-world power output of the RX-8 rotary engine. The US spec RX-8 is advertised as 247hp at the crank, but three cars sold to enthusiasts have dynoed at only around 178hp at the wheels. That is a massive amount of power loss, unless the engine doesn\'t really make 247 at the crank. For example, my S2000 is rated at 240hp, but typical stock examples usually dyno around 200 - 205 at the wheels. Something is definitely wrong in Mazda land, and this could be another PR disaster for them like the MX-5/Miata situation was a few years back. :(
-
The creased lines add a lot of strength to the body. I think they need to do this with the lighter and lighter bodies they are coming out with.
-
I don\'t buy that. It might be one of the "perceived benefits" of the creases, but I doubt manufacturers have suddenly switched to much thinner sheetmetal just because Chris Bangle or whoever decided that creases looked cool. It\'s gotta be an aesthetic decision, not engineering.
-
Actually look at the cadillac. As much as I hate the look they did it for strength. Hell that\'s one ugly ass car.
Why does the bottom of a front wheel drive car sill have the hump down the center?
-
Are you talking about the transmission hump on the floor? They might have to route exhaust through there, but yeah, it\'s not really necessary except as a cupholder. I thought some cars like the Civic Si had the shifter on the dash, and little or no hump.
-
I just said that because ford owns mazda... I drive a \'94 mazda B3000 pickup and guess what, it\'s really a ford ranger.
-
I dig the headlights... Mazda 6 doesn\'t look too bad imo.
-
I was hoping someone would follow up on my RX-8 comments...
Here\'s a mondo thread discussing the hp problem:

And here\'s a thread with one S2000 owner\'s experience test driving the RX-8. Kind of confirms what I was thinking...

Doesn\'t Racer at least read his own thread? :p

He\'s probably busy doing this:

I like the CTS and im not a big fan of caddilac. This concept is pretty nasty looking. It has a huge cockpit and the front end is very stocky. The rear reminds me of an old cars coming straight out of a dick tracey comic. Pretty nasty if you ask me.
If you want to see real automotive ingenuity check out a Lotus/Caterham Super 7, Lancia Stratos or a ferrari berlinetta. Those are real classics. Not to say there arent many others, those are just a few of my favorites.
