Title: Show ideas anyone for my show?
Post by: videoholic on August 07, 2003, 07:23:15 AM
I have a meeting on Monday to try and present ideas for next years shows and I am just looking for ideas.  Show is both car maintenance and performance.

Example of shows could be as simple as my previous thread, how in the hell do you choose the correct tire?

I have right now over 30 some od subjects, but I\'d love to get at least 50.

Think of car problems you have had, or simple upgrades to increase horsepower.

We primarily do our show on American made vehicles, but tweaking a little puss jap 4 banger wouldn\'t be all that bad either.

We neer do Euro cars though.  I wish we could though.

Oh and could you please keep your bullshit ideas down to a bare minimum?  I know they\'re coming, but if you feed me crap at least feed me an good idea as a side order.

how bout a show shedding light on all the BS additives and shit like
"the Vornado" that they sell on TV?

or how about a couple of low-cost things you can do to your ride
to increase performance...that you can do without having a dyno
or that crazy garage you have in your studio! :D

Oh God, the Tornado.  THose guys call us all the time wanting to be on.  We finally let them do one placement with us last year.  It will be a while till we let them on again.  Oye...

How about a show about all the bull bolt-ons that produce far less HP than advertised. I guess that wouldn\'t go over well with the bean counters.

. . . or take a car from a viewer ala This Old House and do some performance mods on it.

I will reluctantly give you my car as a test.

How how a few shows on basic fundementals of mods :

How to replace :

Shocks and springs
drain the tranny and fill it up again
water hoses
belts
etc etc

Believe it or not, a lot of people are too afraid to try until they see how easy it is. If it worked for Martha Stewart...why not with cars? Guys have too much pride to ask another about how to\'s.

Another is to show the before and after affects of mods such as thicker rear sway bars, changing the stiffness of the shocks or the entire suspension, super chargers, turbo, octane boosters, piggyback Chips.

I like the idea of showing real world HP #s for parts, but that makes it hard to sell when you are going to say a company isn\'t producing #s they promise.  Doh.  Check please.

I knew that would not fly. I get crazy when I see a company say 20 more HP when they know damn well it\'s not the case.

We dyno test people\'s stuff and we were most surprised with the cold air intake from K&N. We got a great increase on a camaro and a vette.

Fine, but what comes across from these companies is that is the norm for all cars.

How about a show that takes it to the track. A performance mod show that shows real world gains at the track. Maybe a narrow audience but you guys deal with performance mods so I think even people who don\'t visit the track would still be interested.

how about a show about the best mods for your buck.  What gives you the greatest HP increase per dollar.  Most of these shows spend 5 grand and gain 7 horse power, it would be nice to see some mods that net you some cheap ponies.

How about a show that mimics tose stupid house shows (I don\'t remember what its called) but like trading something or other...

Anyway, you take two guys with fixer uppers and you have them swap cars and they do the work they would like on each others cars, then give them back.  Sort of a Man\'s version of those women\'s shows.  Now you could do it as an actual show that has many episodes, or just one show as sort of a way to see how others would do things much differently if given the opportunity.

That would be pretty funny BS.  Although it would take hellacious prep and take forever to shoot.  Remember, to paint a wall in a room takes an hour.  To paint a car takes days.

yeah I know, but I figured since much of what we do in our line of work is copying from previous versions of someone else\'s work... it would be nice to copy and then turn the show into a guy\'s version of it instead.  But yeah I know, One Day = a room in a house, a few months (to many years in some cases) = a car restoration project.

The show will be on once a week?  I like the Trading Spaces idea the best, simply genious taking an old  Corvette out of a junkyard and restoring it to great condition.  Gearheads and regular joes would eat that up.  But like you said it would take a while for them to get the engine running, wait for parts to come in, etc...  You could have it as an ongoing background project throughout the season if budget allows.

Whatever you choose I\'d like for regular manitenance schedules to be thrown in between commercials.  Like how to change your oil, what you need to do every 30,60, & 100 thousand miles to keep your car in good running shape.  Most people don\'t know they have to get their tranny fluid flushed out every so often.  Just like the previous owner of the car I\'m driving now. :(

Ground up resto is a good idea. There is this show that I watch on the weekends that looks like a BBC show and they have been restoring an old Jaguar. This is a car from the junkyard.

Not sure if its been said before, but how about buying a used car and things to look out for?

Since I\'m a teen starting to search for my first car, how about simple car maintenance for the teenager? Or tips for a teenager in buying his/her first car?
