Title: Help with new car
Post by: Seraphim Pride on August 07, 2003, 02:38:19 PM
Wow haven\'t posted her in a while only lurking.  Well anyway I sorta have a little problem.  I\'m getting a new car next summer but I really can\'t decide between these 3.

Mazda RX8
Nissan 350Z
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon(I know it\'s not a car)

I know a lot of you are car experts so any expert opinions would be helpful especially if you\'ve driven any of these cars.

If you have an RX-8 and a Jeep Wrangler in the same list, it sounds like you\'re not really sure what you\'re looking for in a vehicle.  Can you be specific about your needs?

What\'s most important to you:

Street, track or offroad?
Back seats
Luxury features
Cheap mods / upgradability / repairs
Reliability
Uniqueness
MT / AT / other (tiptronic, etc)
Price range?....

You need to provide a starting point for the decision.  :)

Well the reason for the jeep was mainly due to the fact that typicaly you can only enjoy sports cars during the summer when the weather is nice and sunny.  In the winter it snow and lots of harsh weather.  Sometimes when it storms here the roads get flooded and if I had a sports can it would have to stay in the driveway.

On the other hand I\'d like to have a nice car to drive around as long as the weather permits.  Heavy rain sucks but it\'s not all the time.  I\'m going from a barely running \'93 Honda Accord to whatever.  It\'s the four wheel drive of the jeep that makes it so useful during harsh weather but other than that I really don\'t see much use for it.  Can\'t really do much with a jeep unless I\'m wrong.  I\'ve never seen anyone do anything to a jeep other than put on this 31in tires.

If you are looking for a good all season vehicle, then you should DEFINITELY consider getting either:

Subaru Impreza WRX
Subaru Impreza WRX Sti
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8

All are rally car platforms that can take some abuse.  All are AWD, and all are performance CARS that are great fun both in Summer and Winter.  If you get the jeep just to stay safe in water and snow, you\'ll regret it for how boring it in good conditions.

Well I really like how the RX8 and 350Z look.  I know it\'s a shallow way of thinking but I\'m more concerned about my safety that having a flasy fast car.  What good is it gonna be to me wrapped around a tree. I\'ll check ou those Subaru\'s.

It all depends on where you\'re driving.  That\'s why I asked "Street, track or offroad?"  For those of us who don\'t get thrilled about driving over boulders and shit, the Jeep would be boring as hell on streets.

The Jeep is cool with the top down and your friends all around you.  Only 2-3% of Wrangler owners actually go offroad, and even then you\'d wanna spend more money making it a better vehicle for abuse.

Personally I\'d get a G35 coupe for the summer, and a used Maxima for the winter.

PS-  girls dig guys in jeeps but you\'ll get crappy gas mileage. :)

Sammy is absolutely right, the car is fantastic.

BUT.... i\'d also recommend a GMC Envoy, one of the best 4wd suv\'s out there, its a good solid dependable vehicle either onroad or offroad :).

i dunno why but i have a compelling urge to say this,... just remeber that all these post are our suggestions, a mere reflection of what we want in a car and most probably not what u particularly want, so what i\'d suggest is go on as many testdrives as possible and find the car that best fits u and yer lifestyle.
:)

I second the Impreza STi or Lancer Evolution - both are all-weather attack high performance cars!

They\'re $30,000 - about the same a the 350Z. Insurance is probably lower on the STi and Lancer Evo. :p

And by the same ignorance...wtf would he not want to *do* anything to it?

As for topic.

You seem to want something sporty, yet something that wont be a punk in the winter.

I also suggest an EVO.
