Title: Which windows-based mp3 player do you use?
Post by: Coredweller on August 08, 2003, 08:50:56 PM
I know WinAmp is the defacto standard, but I\'m frustrated by a few things it\'s lacking.  I want to be able to sort my file list by ANY field in the ID3 tag, but WinAmp only seems to offer sorting by :

"Name" (Which is effectively Artist Name, then Track Name)
"Path / Filename" (Useless unless your files are very carefully named)
"Length"  (Who would need this sort for ANY REASON?)
"Track" (Not sure what it does, but the results are not useful)

Why can\'t there be more sort options?

So anyway, I\'m exploring what other mp3 players are out there.  Please post your recommendations.  Thanks.

I use Musicmatch.  Very simple, stable, and easy on the eyes.  They also have that cool Super-tagging feature.

I know it\'s not very helpful, but I\'m a WinAmp guy. ;)

Foobar2000 (http://www.foobar2000.org/)

Does all that those sorting things you want, plus it has some great plugins and is very small, very fast.

EDIT:  Oh, and despite it being v0.667 it\'s EXTREMELY stable.  Don\'t let the version throw you off.

If you want more info on it, like how to customize the looks so you can get cool stuff like this (http://musepack.org/misc/fb2k_screenshot.png) or even this (http://membres.lycos.fr/stefoufou/foobar.png) go here (http://pelit.koillismaa.fi/fb2k/).  They\'ve got info and screens of other people\'s playlists.

Winamp 2,91, because I can\'t live without the NowPlaying plug in.

QCD is also pretty good.

I dont see whats bad about Media player for playing CD\'s it downloads track names and the picture on the cover of the album(not exactly important but coolish) for you much better than crappy winamp- and more stable in my experience.

Yeah, and every time you run it, even just to play a file stored locally, it accesses the internet to report back to the Microsoft mothership.  At least in WinAmp you can disable that.

iTunes. Sure, it\'s Apple, but you WinDoze users will get it soon enough.

Oh and XMMS via KDE.
