Title: Mr. Know-it-all
Post by: Knotter8 on August 17, 2003, 08:47:39 AM
Ugh....Has anybody here, ever had the \'pleasure\' being in discussion with such a person ?  A few minutes ago I just
had it again  . The kind of ppl who never fail to stress
they do/know/see something better than you do ; thus,
fvcking up a totally nice conversation. For example : I was
showing a 3D model of my robot to this \'person\' and i told
him ; "I redid the ankle." Then he said ; "It\'s supposed 2B
\'remade\'. " While my \'redid\' is completely good English grammar
and also quite appropriate to the situation, he kept insisting
he knew better. Btw, words are not exact like numbers. They
can mean slightly different things to different ppl. The worst
of these kind of ppl are the ones who state their opinion or taste
as fact. Ughh.... maybe i should just declare myself inferior to
those ppl on beforehand when i talk to them. :crap:

The absolute worst are the e-thugs on IRC.  Try going into #cars or #flash and ask a basic question.  You\'ll either get mocked or even kicked depending on who\'s opped.  People wanna look like a badass know it all in front of their peers, it\'s really sad.

It just comes down to the fact that people are stupid.

:)  I\'ve never been there, but I can imagine what you mean THX.  I would ask myself, how many people who REALLY know anything about cars would waste their time hanging out in an IRC channel like #cars?  There are probably nothing but teen riceboys in there, and I wouldn\'t trust a word they said, even if they did bother to answer a question.

As far as know-it-alls in general, I find them very funny.  I like being around when they get humiliated.  Other than that, I avoid them as much as possible.  It\'s just immaturity that causes that.  When you GROW UP, you discover that no matter what you learn, what you know, or what skills you develop, there\'s always someone out there better than yourself.  You may think you\'re the baddest Freecell player in the universe, or whatever, but I guarantee you there\'s a guy on a mountaintop in China who could make you look like a chump.  Here is wisdom.  :D

;)  hehe... but i take it you know what i mean huh...
The Mr. Know-it-all tends to \'correct\' other ppl all the
time ; if his intention is to help all ppl, i say \'ok\'.
But they impose stuff on you as if their opinion or
interpretation of knowledge is THE absolute TRUTH.
In such conversations i always get the feeling those
ppl say such things to let ppl \'know\' in a sneaky way, they
think of you or your knowledge/opinion as inferior.
Maybe you say ; \'then don\'t let it get to you\'.....
But it still kinda hurts when they do this  :(

Well, there isn\'t always somebody better.

I mean, look at Michael Jordan. Yeah yeah, I know that\'s basically the only good example.. :)

IMO, There are more "grown up" know-it-alls than young ones. Especially when it comes to people 10+ years younger than them.

^ ^ ^ ^  whoa !!!! That\'s just spot on ! The Mr. Know-it-all\'s who i know are indeed about 10 years older than me. Yes,
they probably/might actually know more stuff than I do, but there
are a coupla 36 y.o.\'s ( I\'m 25 now ) whose personality and communication style absolutely don\'t mesh with mine.
Looks like a generation clash with the ones born in mid 60\'s.
Why them ? I can get along with ppl who R <30 and > 38 just fine most of the time. Yes i know ; this is stating it too \'black and white\' but it is a noticable thing.

If that is so sammy then please enlighten us.

Anyway, people like this usually either get their kicks out of it or have a character flaw that just causes them to do that (for reasons unknown). I can be this way sometimes when some people are just too damn general and eventhough i have an ok idea of what they are talking about, i tend to make them be more specific. A lot of people hate that.

Its not always with age either. Some people just like to show off and or prove they are the creme de la creme. And with the age scenario, the elder usually is looking for reassurance of their "wisdom" or mental acheivements.

Meh. Im too tired to come with something that makes more sense but I never have too many problems with these types because i generally cant point out that flaw and could care less about them or the subject matter and therefore leave them either looking like assholes or dumbshits (most of the time). *yawn*
