how the hell can you mistake a camera for an RPG in broad daylight???
Maybe I\'m missing something, but that\'s just ridiculous.
-
Im not sure..
Iraqis use RPG7 if Im not mistaken.

Too thin.
Maybe they thought the Iraqis had got a hold of a more modern weapon? ;)

That looks more lika a camera. Like a camera from 1950 :p
But I guess in the heat of battle, no wait that was declared over 2 months ago. Hmm.. When you\'re scared and a little trigger happy you can see anything.
-
*sigh*

regarding the reporter, its not the first time that that happened and probably wont be the last, i remember one incident when a tank took off the entire roof of the aljazeera news network (killing one of their reporters) coz the tank crew thought that it was a rpg.
-
Poor reporter guy.
I bet he got a surveillence video showing GWB and Hussain talking and shaking hands while sitting on two nukes!!!
Maybe they just WANT us to believe it was a mistake.....
-
No he just filmed his own death..
The video should be up on the net shortly, for all you snuff lovers. ;)
This incident reminds me a lot of when one of our reporters got shot. He was filming a truck (I think it was in Chile during the military coup) with some soldiers on them.. There was people running all over the place..
Then you could see a officer on the truck with his handgun pointed at the camera-man, aimed right for him and hit him somewhere in the throat I think.
Video is up here: http://wwwb.aftonbladet.se/vss/webbtv/html_tv/0,5079,m0ny030818skjuten,00.html

Do you think these attacks will stop if Saddam is taken care of?
-
We need to pull out and let these countries just destroy themselves. They show no gratitude and only understand the way of the gun/bomb. That\'s not our way, we have too many morals to bother with them any more.
Yes there are lots of people out there that are completely nice and peaceful but it\'s really not worth it.
In about 500 years they should all be dead and some people that actually give a shit about good things will move in.
Edit: I also think the attacks will get worse and more frequent if Saddam is captured/killed.
-
That depends on who is doing the attacks. If it is Islamic fundamentalists then they will continue - but if they are Saddam loyalists they will start to end if he is killed or captured.
I think the root of the problem lies in fundamentalism. Sure we took an ruthless dictator out of power - but in his absence there is a power vacuum that is now going on. Being an oil rich nation it would not be in the interest of the "west" to just leave and let a fundamentalist government take over because they could use that wealth to fund terrorism unlike any way we have currently witnessed. I honestly wish it was that easy to just walk away and let them slaughter each other.
What was the point of sabotaging the water supply in Baghdad? Surely that wasn\'t targeting US/Coalition interests or troops. It was to make their fellow citizens suffer. Then I see on TV that average Iraqi\'s are blaming us for letting that happen. Why don\'t they find out who these people are and lynch them? If I knew some extremist who sabotaged the water supply in my city - I would turn him in or lead an angry mob to his front door.
Anyway, green - you are right they really don\'t show any gratitude.
I can\'t remember who on this board said "I will be happy the day the last barrell of oil is pumped out of that region" - I couldn\'t agree more.

So it was about the oil? :p

Yep, to create more problems.. The average Iraqi will think all this started because of the invasion and blame the coalition troops.
Is there any way to turn this around? Will the capture/killing of Saddam solve all problems, or will it stay like this for a loooong time? How many troops are the American/British willing to waste?
-
^^
Ditto.
If there hadn\'t been a war to begin with, we wouln\'t have this problem would we?!
But you all are right. First they were crying and screaming to get that man out of power, now they take our kindness for weakness and try to shove it back up our ass. I say leave them there and let them take care of themselves.
-
I kind of agree with Sir Mystiq but didn\'t the Vietnamese do the same to use during Vietnam? Didn\'t they shit all over us too? But this is war. Its common for the people to play the blame game. My opinion is to just ignore them and to help as much more as we can and hunt down Saddam....if he\'s alive that is.
-
I think we should just START rebuilding their country and let them do whatever they want with their government.
-
If it were about oil then why in the hell are gas prices higher now than they were before and during the war.
This blows!!!

You must get into the liberal mindset to understand. It\'s a scary place but I will go there now for you . . . It is about the oil. It is not going to reach the little guy but it is going to line the pockets of GWB\'s rich fat cat friends.

If you let Iraq set up its own government it will be become another Iran. The Sunni minority won\'t stand a chance against the more fundamentalist Shite majority. Then you will have another fundamentalist anti west country ready to sponsor terrorism... the only difference would be Iraq has a lot of commodities to sell to fund terrorism.
That is the whole point of this conversation. Do I like the fact that we have to stay there? NO, but walking away is not the answer. That whole region needs a babysitter and unfortunately being the only world superpower we have to do it.
I am curious as to what our non US members of the forum think about yesterdays bombing of the UN headquarters in Iraq especially IF it was Al Queda.

If it was Al Queda then that\'s a serious hornets nest that was stirred up by the previous two wars. Where can be bombed next in retalliation now no-one knows where the hell they organise everything from?
We don\'t know what their numbers are or what weaponry they have at their disposal, they\'re obviously nuts and each one of them would happily blow themselves up for the cause, it\'s a new type of enemy, an expendable one, kind of like The Borg. I really have no idea what can be done about it, take a look at a crowd walking down a busy street, any one of them could be wearing a C4 vest. I just don\'t worry about it until it happens, everywhere is a target for them it seems, that\'s why it\'s less likely it will happen to you or anyone you know, the area they\'re trying to cover with fear is just massive.
But this is all about IF it was Al Queda. If it wasn\'t then it must have been an Iraqi, for that we should leave the whole country to rot, pull all aid and remove ALL foreign forces, fighters or peacekeepers, after they\'ve finished with their shit and if they\'re left in a real mess with a horrid leader then we should step in and use our financial muscle as a whole to fix it. I suspect all that\'s needed is for people to see that for anything to get back on track we WILL be needed (now we\'ve destroyed it all), we need to \'force\' them to realise we\'re not Devils in cammo gear and just want the best for as many people as we can.

Shocked and sickened.
If anything this will only set back the rebuilding of the country and only add to the increasing level of chaos.
It just goes to show you that the whole situation in Iraq is going to HELL in a handcart(especially when it was revealed that Iraqi officials warned US “authorities” of this attack 2 Days before the bombing ) .
But again if it doesn’t pump oil then it receives the same substandard protection like (the water pipe line., the hospitals, the national treasures etc….etc…etc….)
Update
----------
Looks like Jack Straw and Collin Powel are going cap in hand to the UN today to request a multinational peace keeping force mean while we are getting bogged down in a no win situation that’s costing both British and American Lives.
Geee thanks for your eternal wisdom Mr Blair and Bush for leading us into this terrible situation.
I mean whaaaooooo you managed to turn a CONTAINED situation into a political / humanitarian / military / economic cockup
Mr Blair was always focused on his place in history look like he will get it for this.

But how many people will USE their vote rather than stick with cold comfort?
He\'s the amazing Teflon man, nothing\'ll stick, see how he\'s trying desperately to sidestep all important issues and almost succeeding.

IF it was alquaeda(sp), will somebody please tell me the reason for the first war? Wasn\'t it to stop this bastards? I know that it\'s hard but damn shouln\'t we at least have the comfort of knowing Bin Laden is dead? That just proves that we went into this war too soon. Now we have all this problems piling up.
AND again the US officials were warned of this attack. WTF?! Wasn\'t there some crazy rumour that they had some idea of what might happen back in 9/11?!?!?
To me this just proves the situation has not improved one bit.
Who cares right?! Bush is out of office next year(hopefully), so it won\'t be his problem anymore.
