Title: How do you get rid of this?!?!?
Post by: CHIZZY on August 19, 2003, 08:31:51 AM
maybe some of you ultra-super-smartypantses can help a brutha out...

On my laptop at home (brand new win xp home) I keep getting a
popup that takes over my whole screen (IE toolbars dissapear). It\'s a search engine, and
it won\'t let me close it. If I hit CTRL-W a little window pops up that says "search the web! Just type it and go!" and has an OK button. The only way I can get rid of it is through task manager, and it shuts down all IE windows. This usually happens about every ten minutes. It\'s especially annoying when I\'m trying to pay bills or check my bank balance...

HELP!

didn\'t know about that... what function is that?...

BTW... does anyone feel like printing out a small list of common, useful keyboard shortcuts for peeps like me who may not know them?

Install and run the free version of AdAware with the newest .ref file they offer.  You can download it from

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Hopefully that will get rid of whatever applet is causing this.

From this point foward, whenever you see a prompt like this, NEVER EVER click yes.  ALWAYS click no.

Thanks... I know enough to never do that, but I cannot say that my GF does for sure...

perhaps it\'s a resident worm or whatever. Run Ctrl-alt.supr and check if the application is in the current task list.

Dl spybot search and Destroy. Update it, and then run it. I almost garuntee that will rid your system of the problem.
