It\'s the new 2003 McLaren Mercedes SLR available very soon.
It will be powered by a 5.4 litre V8 breathed on by AMG. Power will be a monstrous 600bhp. It has an automatic transmission with a 0-60 time of under 4 seconds and will top out at over 200mph.

Did I mention that the car will cost £250,000 when it is officially available is september

Dizam!
That is one nice ride...
only thing I dont like is how long the engine area looks.
-
Simply a work of art. Beautiful.
(and expensive :crying: )
-
Very hot *purrs*
-
i think itd look better with normal doors...
-
The doors give it a kind of attitude that I kind of think it would lack with normal doors.
-
Extra kewl. And it\'s Mercedes, that\'s quality.
-
My new dream car.
-
Meh. Front looks kinda nasty and an automatic gear shift. Not only that but it needs 600bhp and 5.4 litres just to make it under 4 seconds all for how much in american currency? Please, even if i had all the money in the world i wouldnt buy it. Any maranello or modena is at least as good and much prettier. It probably rides so smoothe you cant feel a damn thing you are doing, taking all the fun out of driving it.
Its the sports car for rich old lazy people. Who need a car to add to their somewhat lacking lebido. And i too think it would be better with regular doors.
Ill pass.
-
I don\'t the way it looks from the front....reminds me of the batmobile...but the batmobile was way cooler...
-
I am going to officially place this car in the "Does not suck" category.
-
I love it... with those specs it would EASILY crush a Modena. And it would pass a Maranello with no problem. Performance isn\'t the issue.. it\'s whether you prefer German engineering or Italian.

You would be wrong my friend but to each his own. Not only that but the engineering on both the modena and maranello are at least eaqual for their ages. Neither uses more than a 5.8L with 600Bhp to reach the speeds they reach as fast as they reach them which the last time i checked were under 3 or maybe slightly over 4. And youre totally neglecting the other points i made up (while poking fun, they still are valid). Id much rather enjoy driving a manual with a strong chassis where the enjoyment is obviously more enjoyable for a large portion of car enthusiasts.
Im not saying this car sux, but what its offering and for the price, id much rather get something else and more (not to mention with a prettier face IMO). And i love both german and italian engineering but i also much prefer BMW over any Mercedes.
But like I said, to each his own.

After that long rant, you act as if you had the choice.

sif dream car.
my dream tank will run it over!
-
I don\'t have $300,000 (US). I\'ll have to settle for a much cheaper car. :)
-
No offense Lord Nicon, but I think you\'re just talking out of your @ss. Do you even know anything about this car? Or are you just pulling it out your rear while looking at the pictures?
Ever since I saw this years back (when it was a prototype) I\'ve wanted it. It\'s an awesome car and design, and I bet it\'d be even more impressive to look at in real life.
Rant over.

I wish... :(
I\'ll stick with dreamin of an RX-8. :(
-
Your right....
me Rushes out to buy a Nice Marbel back stage ;)
-
Thats gotta be one of the sweetest rides ever.
Is it just me or in that profile pic, the bonnet looks kinda flat? Would probably looks alittle better with a small curve.

Here is some more info on this amazing car!
There\'s a heat haze blurring the view of the Barcelona test track, but otherwise the circuit ahead is clear, so we risk squeezing the throttle a little further. Up goes the SLR through the first four gears; 100mph, 120, 140 - the 155mph suggested limit comes up in a rush in fourth gear, and we\'ve still got another ratio to use.
A red rev-limiter warning light flashes at 7,000rpm, but there is no upshift from the automatic gearbox until the driver says so. Change up and the acceleration is relentless until we run out of nerve - and track space - as we clock 307kph. That\'s 190mph, and the SLR still had plenty left. Someone braver managed an indicated 212mph today.
Until the car\'s official launch in September, Mercedes\' engineers will only say the maximum speed is \'comfortably over 200mph\', although a few technical calculations suggest it will be 217mph. There\'s still some fine-tuning to be done by McLaren on the prototype car we have been invited to drive. What is clear, though, is that the supercharged V8 will broach 600bhp and have 800Nm of torque on hand. Whatever the exact numbers, extreme performance such as this has never been more accessible, and the car\'s rumoured 3.8-second 0-60mph time is yours with just a flex of the ankle.
The SLR has another party trick - an air brake. Just as with the original 1955 Mille Miglia-winning SLR, a rear spoiler pops up to help wipe off velocity. It\'s not that the carbon-ceramic composite discs need much help, but it transfers downforce to the rear, helping the back brakes contribute to the stopping effort. It does mean the pedal pressures feel a little artificial, but there are still adjustments to make, says the McLaren engineer responsible.
Flip-up panels are a bit of a theme on the SLR, as you discover from sitting in the car. With the ignition on, flick up the cover on the gear selector and press the glowing start button. It\'s like being a fighter pilot launching a missile. As the grumbling monster V8 awakens, it seems as dangerous, too.
With the side-exit exhausts growling at lower speeds, the SLR flicks through bends accurately with negligible roll. Apply power, feel the tail twitch and know that all Mercedes\' safety systems are there to sort out any problems.
With the power building, the SLR understeers gently, so we turn harder and brake in an attempt to upset the balance. But it turns tighter and slows - nothing, it seems, will faze this car. The steering is quick and sharp but sure-footed, and the SLR can ride over potholes, too - after all, the machine is being developed on the UK\'s roads.
The auto transmission might seem at odds with the performance, but this is a very fast GT, not a supercar racer. Let the Maybach-sourced five-speed box do all the work and it\'s terrific, but the snags come with the manual override. The finger buttons are awkward to use and you can\'t perform a throttle blip when changing down.
Another disappointment is the interior. The one-piece seats fit smaller drivers perfectly, but taller motorists will crave more space. It doesn\'t help that, despite the vast bonnet, the engine intrudes into the cabin space in order to give the best weight distribution.
Mercedes/McLaren plans to make 500 SLRs a year, if demand is high. With a price tag of around £250,000, the car is a relative bargain considering the technology involved. First deliveries are due in January; among the many already ordered are five for one customer, who wants a car for each of his worldwide homes. He must have a serious addiction to speed.

All this talk and they haven\'t mentioned anything about gas mileage. I look for fuel economy in the cars I buy.

Lol, if you buy a $350,000 car I don\'t think you\'d have to worry about milage. :p

No offense Sammy but i think you are just fed up at the fact that i dont like such a "beautiful" car and youre pseudo fondness of it makes you feel that im talking out of my ass. I am just responding to what ive heard about the car and laying out my opinion. You dont have to agree with me, but i think there are other cars that do just as good a job at being a high end sports car. Im sure it looks better in real life as most cars do, thats not even the point. Anybody can get a good enough look from the pictures posted.
I in fact have the mulah to spend on this car but i generally dont find it worth it because im not filthy rich (eventhough i wish i was :(). So yes ill pass.
Anyway, on what Kurt posted, its pretty interesting how you decide wether or not the car will shift up from 4th. How this is done i have no clue. Its also nice to see that maybe mercedes is taking a hint from porche with the air brake, which has never failed to impress. Its also a RWD i assume. Its pretty nice the way they can modify the understear but it would be nice to be able to flip the tail out a bit and kinda drift the exit of a corner. One thing that i do find impressive about this car is the fact that it boasts 600Bhp from a v8 engine. Meh.
Rant over :p

A $52k Z04 is faster than a 360 Modena and equal with a Maranello in the quarter. Tony Chen\'s 360 couldn\'t get under a 13 in SCC. Granted the Ferrari\'s would win the fun factor because of drivability and corner hugging but the name doesn\'t automatically mean insane performance.
The 405hp LS-6 in the Vette is N-A, the 600hp V8 in the Mercedes is blown. I would think a car like this would blow away the compeittion listed in this thread. (except the tank) Time will tell I guess...
