It was reported by The Morning News of Northwest Arkansas that a woman, 36 year-old Mary Cordell, faces felony manslaughter charges after leaving her child in a locked, unventilated car for several hours while playing Everquest. A Springdale police detective was quoted as saying, "We believe that on the day in question, Ms. Cordell was playing an Internet game, EverQuest, for a period of time exceeding two hours, during which she had no knowledge concerning the whereabouts of her daughter."
Additionally, messages posted by Cordell at NWAOnline.net suggest that she finds the game Everquest extremely addictive and partly responsible for her divorce. Says Cordell "I feel sorry that people get wrapped up into this and destroy their relationships. I just hope that one day they will wake up before it\'s too late and realize they are alone with no real friends and their family is gone."
There is also a report by the Associated Press that two teens ages 13 and 16 claim that they were impersonating the hit Rockstar title Grand Theft Auto when they fired several 22 caliber rounds at passing traffic on Interstate 40 in Newport Tennesee. The two teens pled guilty to homicide, reckless endangerment and aggravated assault on June 25th and have been sentenced to juvenile detention.

Grand theft auto doesnt make you shoot a gun into traffic.....

Don\'t know why they did that, maybe just messed up in the head or something.

There are mental problems everywhere, with and without videogames.

I\'m sick of reading about how some kid killed 10 people with his dads gun, cause he played "Vice City" 30 mins earlier.

Kurt,I agree.

If the games company were responsible then they would take the game off the shelves, but who in their right minds thinks that someone sits there at say,Rockstar and says "lets make a violent game, where it will influence some punk ass 10 year old to murder his parents and stael their car and run over the family cat"

Its not the game, its the irresponsibilty of the people who play them. They think it\'s "cool" to kill a prostitute on Vice City or Steal A Car on The Getaway.

I love playing the GTA series, among other violent games, but I play them for the gameplay and the humor, but I\'m not sick and twisted for playing them.

A guy at where I used to work, calls people "Small Minded Pricks" cause they play games like The Getaway or GTA 3 etc.
His boss said he was the "Small Minded Prick" for saying that.

People like that give humanity a bad name. They are retarded for doing something like that. Its not the games that are forcing them to do it. Its their own freewill and theres no excuse for what these people did.

All it takes is one weak minded and easily impressionable person to ruin the video game image.

I\'m embaressed to say that EverQuest did destroy my social life for almost an 8 month period. Truly its more like a hobby. But never have I ditched real life for EQ...

I\'m still recovering from the blow :(

I never let a video game take over my life. I have better things to do with my life than just video games. Yes I play them a lot but its not my life.

First it was movies. Now its videogames.Whats next?As if these kids were mentally ok before playing games!!HA!!Almost everybody plays videogames.
It has become a common way of entertainment.I dont know a single person who plays videogames to be mentally sick.To tell the truth most people I know that have videogames as one of their hobbies are very very ok.Sometimes even more mature than those I know that see videogames as childish or stupid toys.
The most violent people in my area(people who used to be in my school) or violent people I ve met in the army dont even know what Resident Evil is.

I may hardly ever agree with anything Unicron says but I think he\'s got a point. Everyone I know that plays them too are alright. Its only a form of entertainment. But there are some liberals that for some reason like to blame and put restrictions on our entertainment for this reason or that. Like banning games with blood and stuff. I feel that most of the time its the parents fault for kids doing stupid things. They should be able to tell a change in their children\'s development. I think the highway shooting could have been prevented if the parents were talking to thier kids more or something. If this doens\'t make sense, I\'m sorry. I\'m pretty tired and keep rambling on.

It makes perfectly sense. Why arent I a problematic guy that mimics violence from games? Why arent you a problematic guy that mimics violence from games ?Why isnt any member of this forums?
Parental naivety, ignorance and lack of guidance for their children is to blame.A kid without being tought freguently whats good or bad, without much communication with his parents or without being encouraged to get out in life and have many kinds of creative activities to occupy his mind will live in confusion. He will start creating his own impressions about whats wrong or right, about his surroundings and sometimes feel insecure with very minimum creative activities.
His consiensce will be limited to what he sees in his narrowed life of confusion. Its easier to be affected in such mental state.
Especially if there is violence in his family.
