Title: Smallville?
Post by: Living-In-Clip on September 25, 2003, 04:52:12 PM
I never watch TV, so I didn\'t bother watching the show, until Season One came out on DVD.

Anyone else watch the show? If so - how are the other seasons?

My intial impressions was terrible. I couldn\'t take it. It seemed like Dawson\'s Creek, if Dawson had super-powers. After episode six, I found myself somewhat enjoying the show. Sure, it\'s the typical "monster of the week" formula, but its a somewhat decent reinvention for a classic character. Not to mention Tom Weiling does a great Clark - even if it\'s not the docile and naive Clark that I am so used to.

From what I understand, season two is more arc driven and season three is suppose to be. I guess I\'ll find out when they come out on DVD.

Well, I would have to agree... but it\'s now one of my favorite time-killers.  The acting is very, very improved, and the story arc is much better than the early "power discovery" episodes.  They\'ve also learned how to work in the ol\' cliffhanger episode endings....

Wait, I mean Kristin Kreuk. :)

Actually the second season is better than the first. At least I thought so.

Yup, she is very nice indeed, great set of boobies.  She seems to have something down her pants though!
I like the way the schoolgirls dress in Hollyoaks too!:D

Slightly off topic but believe it or not Kurt... That’s how I imagined Samwise looked like before he posted a picture of himself. :(

Yeah, here in Europe they used to broadcast Smallville too, but
it\'s not on tv anymore. Too bad. Imo the premise of the story ; Superman not yet being Superman is much more interesting than,
let\'s say.... the Superman \'Lois & Clark\' tv series, starring that bulky guy.

And yes, Tom Welling is hot :smokin:

I think Smallville is great. Tom Welling is superb as Clark, and Kristin Kreuk is just so damn hot. The stories are getting more interesting as it come along, and it should be very cool when Clark discovers he can fly (season 2 finished in AU in May so I don\'t know if he knows it in season 3).

It puts an interesting spin on a franchise that was getting tired. You still can\'t go past Dean Cain and Terri Hatcher though...

Clark will never fly, most likely. The producers have said they have a "no tights, no flight" rule with the series. Just like they said there is no plans for Clark to ever don the actual Superman outfit. Seaosn Three is going to explore Clark\'s super-hearing development.

There will be small hints towards his flight though - like him floating in episode 2 of the first season. Just no actual flight.. Not to meniton, actual flight would crank the budget and effects crew way up. It\'s really not feasible at this point for the show.

It\'s a good show for all the pics and points mentioned above.  I especially like b/c Clark and Lex are friends.  Although I think the whole Bruce Wayne coming into the series is a bad idea.

If anyone is likely to figure it out, then it would be Lex Luthor - and for your information, in Pre-Crisis (not sure about Post-Crisis) comics, Lex Luthor came to the conclusion that he was 80% positive that Clark Kent and Supeman was one in the same, however, he also dismissed it thinking that someone with that much power could not simply take the life of a lowly newspaper reporter.

^^

Thats the thing though, I don\'t know if they are trying to stay true to the comics or what. I mean, I heard that the blond chick journo girl (forget her name) is actually a neice or cousin of Louis Lane\'s...

I think if the show becomes more successful (its already doing amazing things for WB) then I think he should fly. I mean, he can only stay in high school for so long, then he\'ll probably go to college, or work on the farm... again, I don\'t know if they are gonna keep it true to the comics or just let it all go.

At the heart Smallville is part of DC\'s "Elseworld" stories .
An Elseworld story is an alternate universe or time, with the same characters. That is what Smallville is. Thus they can take liberties with the characters.

I\'m too lazy to read what everyone said, so I\'ll just add my input for someone else to skip over.

Smallville isn\'t as cheesy as Dean Cain\'s series of Superman.  That\'s probably the reason why I like it.  And Tom Welling isn\'t all that good looking.  He\'s got somewhat of a deer-caught-in-headlights look.  =P  Th guy who plays Lex is way cuter.  (And no I don\'t go after bald guys.)

Samwise, let me guess...you like Kristin Kreuk because I didn\'t come across that many pictures of her online as you have.  =P The only time I searched under her name I went to find out what part of China her mother\'s family is from.

I agree.  Lois & Clark was ok but the more special effects they tried to put in the worse it ended up looking.

Just a little FYI new Episodes start Wednesady night on the WB here in the states. The only reason to watch Lois and CLark was Stacey Scoggins and Terri Hatcher :D :D :D

Louis and Clark was great until they got married and then she went into the mental place cause she lost her memory, or did that happen before they got married? I dont remember...

Smallville has huge potential to become an excellent long running series, I just hope they have enough story lines to keep Clark in Smallville (he is already a senior in high school right)? What if the show runs for 6+ seasons?

To be fair, I kind of hope that they DON\'T make it a long running show.  The problem with any successfull show is that they keep making it untill it isn\'t so successfull (simpsons anyone?).  I think that if they cut it off, say at 4 or 5 seasons, well planned ahead of time, the show can go out on a high and popular note, before they really start struggling with originality.

Producers have said the show will end before Clark goes to Metropolis. They plan on him goin\' to highschool and one year of college (most likely). He isn\'t a senior yet, or I don\'t think so. The first season he was a fresman and it is his third year.

^^

But what if its a raging success? Its not like they\'ll can the show if its doing well.

He can\'t exactly leave \'Smallville\' though...

^^^Why won\'t they can it if its a success?

If the plan is to end the series before he moves to metropolis I don\'t see how they can keep pumping out storylines years after he leaves High School.

Maybe a spin-off?

As long as they release the seasons  on DVD in a timely manner, I don\'t care how long it lasts.

I just picked up the first season myself, even though I had only missed like 3 episodes on the entire season.  I love the show.  I think its safe to say I know pretty much everything about the show.  As far as the no flight and now tights comments.  well, this is a show all about superman before he is superman, so the suit is pretty much out of the question.  In the first season, clark floats, and in the second season, near the end, he says he has dreams that he is flying, and then wakes up in the middle of streets or fields.
Obviously, I\'m anxiously awaiting the beggining of season 3.
