Title: Simpsons Hit and Run
Post by: Eiksirf on September 27, 2003, 04:54:42 PM
I was very excited to find Hit and Run was released so I picked it up yesterday.  Grand Theft Auto meets The Simpsons.

It\'s fun and the in-jokes make it even better.  I\'m having fun with it, only a glitch in the game caused me to lose a lot of play, but other than that it\'s cool.

That one old guy is even standing inside the freezer at the Kwik-E-Mart.  Excellent.

Anyone else give it a try?

I hope it is better than Simpsons: Road Rage.

don\'t you mean Skateboarding?

Road Rage was good I thought and bigger than Crazy Taxi

A bigger review?

Alright well imagine you took Grand Theft Auto, because it\'s a clone of that, and ripped out the guns and hookers.

Then throw in Moe\'s Tavern, the Elementary School, the Nuclear Power Plant, etc.

Make the mission bosses people like Marge, Krusty, Comic Book Guy, and Professor Frink.

Almost all the missions are driving related, so you\'ll be racing a time limit to collect trash around town to help Snake with his community service, destroying Smithers\' car before he gets to work, and racing to transport nuclear waste across town to use as a weapon against Kudos and ... that other alien, heh.

There\'s 7 levels total with 8 missions, 3 races, a number of cars to unlock (including Canyonero, Moe\'s Sedan, Krusty\'s Limo, Mr. Plow, Plow King, and the Malibu Stacy car) and 7 hidden collector cards detailing obscure Simpson items with picture, description, and text from the episodes (things like the microphone Bart got as a present, the Japanese soap detergent that looked like Homer, and the game Bart really wanted: Bonestorm) per level.

You play as Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge, and Apu.  Bart and Homer have two levels each. Each character has multiple outfits too (Fat Homer with a muumuu, Marge in her in-mate outfit, Apu dressed as an American, Bart-Man, Lisa in her cool outfit, etc)

And by the way, you don\'t hijack cars, the residents let you ride with them.  But it plays the same as GTA in that regard.

The story involves mysterious cameras and surveillance vans that appear around Springfield and goes on to include Mr. Burns, Krusty, and alien abduction.

It\'s a fun game made so much better for Simpson fans with all the in-jokes.

Keep your eyes open and you might end up riding on the unfinished monorail, using the escalator to no where, or playing a round of Larry the Looter.

The difficulty level has a nice learning curve to it, the story is cohesive and plays like an episode of the Simpsons would if you turned it into a video game which is a plus.

It has lots of characters and fun Simpsons humor.  Look around and you might see Moleman take a football to the groin or Groundskeeper Willie step on a rake and have it hit him in the face.

It\'s a shorter game than GTA and offers far less missions, but there\'s a lot of stuff to keep you hooked after you beat it.  A lot of it is well-hidden too, and a fan of the series will be tempted to find everything.

I\'d say if you\'re a Simpsons fan, get it.

If not, maybe just rent it since it\'s not as good as GTA, but it\'s still pretty fun and it\'s the best game so far from the Simpsons franchise...

It is.  On the short side, but definitely worth picking up at least once.

I got to play it at a video games conference and believe me,this has made great use of the licence.

It\'s still buggy in places but fox have said they will iron them out by the time the november release date arrives.

One bad point I have found is that you need over 1meg of free space on your memory card to save the game. I don\'t have enough so I couldn\'t save my game. I got quite far too, on the 3rd area playing as Lisa.

Wow no kidding.  I don\'t have many PS2 games so it wasn\'t a problem for me (yet). That sucks, tho.

You are correct it is only 221k for a save. I was confusing it with Pro Evolution Soccer 3 which I got today also. That requires 1195k for a save. It looks like I will have to delete some save to make space.:(

Yeah, I always cringe when I\'m forced to delete saves. It\'s my own fault though, I\'m too lazy to bring my memory card up to my PC and d/l them.

It is quite good, but some of the control issues needed to be reworked -- mainly the cars having incredibly poor handling [if anyone says anything about realism, I\'ll club them to death], and Homer being really sluggish indoors [Nuclear Power Plant anyone?] but I blame that also on the poor camera work indoors.  Otherwise, the game makes GREAT use of the license.  Bart giving the tutorial and complaining that tutorials suck is beautiful.  Lots of great humor throughout.

I enjoyed it with a few minor issues but at least there is finally a simpsons game which makes good use of the licence.

I still think they should re-make the old arcade game though.classic game, and thats one thing that I used to spend nearly all my money on as a kid when we went on holiday.

Kurt,PES3 takes up how much?!?
you\'re kidding right?

is that just the options file?

I have just over 6,000kb on my card after a massive clear out.

When PES3 loads it says you need 1195k of free space!!

I only have about 100k free and I ain\'t prepared to delete some of the games that took me ages to play (GT3, FFX).
