There\'s a lot of hope for a Red Sox vs. Cubs World Series... I\'d be satisfied with either one as the winner... In fact as long as it aint the Yanks I\'m happy.

I\'m sorry, but do you ever watch highlights and sit back and look at all of the empty seats? I mean I know a lot of them are paid for by corporations and just no one went, but how in the hell can they keep paying these guys these ridiculous salaries.
Baseball players are assholes. THey all are. It\'s like they are bred to be that way. Hockey players rock, baseball players suck.

It\'s because they play twice the games a basketball or hockey team plays, in a bigger place. They play ten times the games a football team plays. That means more overall attendence, and it also prolly means lower individual game attendence. But it also depends on where you\'re talking about. Watch a game at Fenway and please, try to point out all the empty seats to me.

That\'s my point. There are far too many teams in cities that don\'t give a rats ass. Hell, I live in one. No one in Florida wants to go watch a pitiful team play when they can go to the beach or kick back by the pool. BUT if they were winning that would be a different story. This team here is an absolute waste of time. Owners aren\'t putting in the cash because they just don\'t see any return. And they never will see a return until they put in some cash.
Hell, look at the Marlins. They are back in the playoffs after only a few years after their team was completely dismantled. And here we are still stuck in last place.
Nevermind. Continue on with your playoff thread. I don\'t want to bring it down with my crappy views. I\'m just thankful we have a good hockey and football team here.

Well being from Chicago im somewhat torn. I really dont like the cub all that much. Im a sox fan and over here sox and cubs fans fight like cats and dogs. All the yuppies like the cubs and live in wrigleyville where its nothing but nice little pubs tiny nice houses and f*ing yuppies up the ying yang. Bastards. Lots of them are 75% there to get piss drunk and then go piss on peoples yards and puke after the games. People here are selling tickets for up to $1000!
Anyway, since the sox lost i want to see the cubs loose but being from chicago i dont want any other team to win. What a dilema:confused:

actually my dad lived in the ghetto chicago (taylor st.) and is a die hard cubs fan..so generalizing them to yuppies isnt totally correct..and my dads not a unique one..theres others

Do you think the people in Atlanta even know there is a game going on? That has to be one of the worst sports towns ever. Many years ago the Hawks played the HEat in the playoffs. I was shooting for NBC at the time so I was at the game shooting. It was unbelievable how many empty seats there were for that series.

Sheffield won\'t touch Prior. Cubs win Game 3, then Clement wins it in Chi-Town in Game 4.
We should have swept this series -- Dave Veres should be shot in the face repeatedly for the next two days.

Cubs - in the playoffs with a good shot at the NLCS.
Sox - At home looking for a new manager.

The Cubs made the playoffs in a far tougher division than the one the Sox play in. I\'d take Houston and St. Louis over Minnesota and Kansas City any day, plus you get all those games against the Tigers. A regular season series means nothing. It\'s a few games out of 162. So many things can line up that way that make it an inaccurate representation of how good a team really is. You won 4 out of 6 this year, only one game more than a split. And yet, you never once faced Prior, and faced Wood only once, in a game you lost. You got wins over Estes and Clement twice. Congrats. And these games were in June. Nothing screams meaningless more.

I can hear the suffocation beginning...god I hate my team. Maddux pitched a good game after the 1st inning...4 errors...wtf.
Meanwhile, Prior was amazing. 2 hits on that lineup is pretty tough.

Clement vs. Ortiz tomorrow, which means even if you win that game, you have to win the next one too: Wood vs. Hampton.
Same with the Giants, starting Schmidt on short rest vs. Willis. Not a bad matchup. They\'ll need Ponson to also outduel Beckett to win the series though.

now I know the Sox are down 0-2, but trust me this aint the first time...
in 1999: The Sox were down 0-2 going home, and they took 2 at home and won a decisive game 5.
in 2000: The A\'s were up 2-0, and still managed to lose a series to the yankees when Jeremy Giambi forgot to slide.

Yeah i guess thats right. I just came from work and i took the addison bus to the train to get home, ( cubs stadium is on addison). So when i get on its swarming with cubs fans. That ride was one of the worst ones in a while. Face paint, the hats, jackets, shirts, blankets, mits, paws and all sorts of things they didnt even need. And half of them were already drunk. No manners whatsoever either ( i mean they sell cubs thongs. Thats sad).
Its worse on the train. They all pack in no matter what. Yesterday a friend of mine was on the train and yelled out cubs suck and about 4 guys were just like "Who the hell was that!"
Just another daily adventure through yuppieville in the middle of a cubs game.

And Sammy Sosa, on a game where the Cubs were seemingly whooped after Chipper Jones\' 2nd 2 run homer, almost lights up the Chicago Night with one of the biggest hits in Cub history, with a game tying 2 run homer, but falls just feet short, as Andruw Jones catches the ball in the Dead Center Warning Track...
Ugh...so close. That just wasn\'t fair. Game 5 tomorrow at 7:30 EST in Wrigley South.

You are right. Im not going to deny that sox fans get a little tipsy but nowhere near the level of cubs fans. Thats half the reason some of those guys go there (not to say that all do).
And yes there is something very sad with selling cubs thongs. Its not like its a nation wide thing put out by a larger designer, Its mainly fan shops and crap around the stadium to make more money. ew. :p

Hoohah, Red Sox avoid the sweep. Onto Game 4, and if they win that.. it\'s anybody\'s game!
Did anybody watch? Pretty wild game.. a pitcher\'s duel with a bunch of errors and obscure rule-calls thrown in for good measure. The bullpens were outstanding, as well. Timlin kicked ass.

Well, they won Game 4. Series is now tied 2-2 with God.. ahem.. Pedro Martinez on the mound for Game 5.
It\'s not going to be easy though, seeing as how Oakland has Barry Zito pitching. It should be a tight game.

They do have a very good shot at it though. Wood and Prior are going to be solid for at least 15 more years unless something drastic happens.

That\'s all I have to say. Red Sox come back from an 0-2 deficit to take the series. Pedro Martinez started the game and was mostly dominant, giving up 3 ER basically because despite the A\'s low number of hits.. they were well-timed and well-located (in the gaps) but the 8th was pretty bad. Barry Zito was arguably better, but like Pedro in the 8th.. Zito got tired and unraveled in the 6th.. giving up 2 HR and a total of 4 runs.
4 runs: all the Red Sox would need, as Derek Lowe ended a bases-loaded threat in the bottom of the 9th by allowing a ground-out and 2 beautiful called strike-outs! Pedro and Lowe, doin\' it together.. awesome.
Petey was good in this series, but not Pedro Martinez good. Where\'s my vintage Pedro? Hopefully he\'ll be ready to pitch in the ALCS against th\' Bronx Bombers. ;)

A. Boston pretty much owned Florida this season in inter-league play.

I figured the cubs won and then i turned on the tv and i heard they lost. Stupid cubs fans. I couldnt have been more pleased at that moment. All i could do was yell out the window that the cubs lost. I doubt they\'ll loose tonight but hey, at least they had to work for it.

Pedro Martinez has sucked in the playoffs, at least compared to what he\'s capable of. Hopefully tonight changes that, and Pedro allows 0-1 runs through 7+ innings with 0-5 hits allowed. That\'d be more like Pedro.
None of that 4-run/8-hit/5-inning/Jeff Weaver crap. We want the real Pedro!

As for the sox sucking, weve made it further than the cubs more. Not only that but the cubs havent dominated a series of games against the sox in years. etc..
The only thing team oriented about this game is from the manager. Balancing your lineup with the pitching is huge.

Two things:
A. Grady Little should\'ve taken Pedro out either directly after the 7th (in which he was shaky) or after the 2nd hit in the 8th.
B. I think Pedro really had enough gas to get out of the 8th unscathed but didn\'t throw the right pitches. His high heat to Jeter was a mistake, thrown too low.. but Nixon had a fly-out opportunity with that ball and it got over his head.. barely. After that, Pedro should have both thrown more high fastballs or most importantly.. used the change-up at least once. Good God, I spent half the night screaming at the TV.. "use the change-up".. Sheesh.. the best change-up in baseball and he\'d rather throw a fastball right in the zone. Wake up.

EVERYONE saw that but Grady Little. After he got through that scare in the 7th we all KNEW that he was coming out. He gave us what we needed 7 innings of solid pitching and a 3-run lead. All we had to do was hand the keys to Embree or Timlin and let Williamson wrap it up in the 9th. It still hurts.

I mean, c\'mon. They broke their own rules! Usually after getting out of a shaky 7th, Pedro is done with a pat on the back. After giving up 2 hits against Oakland in the 8th.. he was taken out. This time, neither happened.
Pedro obviously has enough in the tank to throw 92+MPH.. but nevertheless they broke their rules with Pedro and probably the other starters too.. in the most important game of the season to date. I\'m flabbergasted.
