Title: No sound from speakers

My dad is having problems with his computer, for some reason, his speakers aren\'t working.

I\'ve had a look, and from the outside, they look fine, the power light is on, and they are all connected up ok, but because I don\'t know what he has done to stop them from working in the first place (assuming he has done something anyway), I\'m not sure what I can do to fix them, I\'ve tried a few things off the top of my head, but they don\'t seem to fix it.

Is there something I can do, or are they knackered, or even worse, is there something INSIDE the computer that is broken.

PS. Before any of you smart-arses say it, YES, the volume is turned up enough to where it should be audible.

Is the power cord plugged in? ;)

Well, I don\'t know what it could be... have you tried plugging in some earphones to check if the soundcard works alright? If it does, then it should be the speakers that are faulty. :)

I just tried that, the earphones don\'t work either.

So it\'s internal I guess.

How would I go about checking if it\'s a terminal problem, or whether he\'s just disabled something?

Have you checked the volume settings? He might have disabled something by accident. I\'m guessing it would be in START -> ACCESSORIES -> ENTERTAINMENT (directly translated from my Danish version of XP, hope it\'s called the same in the English version ;)).

I just checked, the volume settings are at maximum.

It seems to be working now, even though I didn\'t make any changes.
