Title: Shops realeasing games early - illegal or legal/good or bad?

I was just talking to somebody the other day about this and a few people have said that releasing games before the friday release date is illegal,but I usually get mine wednesday,thursday or friday.depends when they come in.

Whats everyones view on this?

Do you care as long as you get your game?or has this ever been discussed before?

I\'ve heard it mentioned a few times and I just thought I would get it off my chest.

GTA :VC released a day before offical launch due to public demand..

and from whati have heard.. Game decided to pay the "fine" rather than lose out on potental customers.

really?...is there a fine?

I never knew that.

I don\'t really care when they come out cause I myself and friends have got games like Vice City for example,early.

Usually Thursday for me,but the occasional wednesday and Friday at the latest,the actual day of release.

sometimes they don\'t fine

stores getting product days and weeks in advance is a priveledge, not a right.  the company just wont ship the product earlier.

i knew video stores that sometimes sold or rented movies early to try and compete with the bigger chains.  once the studios found out, the studios just didnt ship the movies early, and the stores wouldnt get them untill release date or even after!

Where I work, if other stores sell games early, we follow suit.

I don\'t think it\'s a huge deal, afterall 99% of early-getters just play it anyways, and they really don\'t harm anyone.  I know the warez-ers/groups prolly get theirs through friends who would get them early anyways...

As the rest have said, it\'s all industry "policed"anyways.  There\'s no legal restriction, but there can be a hefty amount of pressure from the game makers and distributors to keep it from happening.

Any fines that would be levied would have to be included in the contract during the store\'s wholesale purchase.

the main reason there not allowed to sell them early is,not all shop get there goods the same day, so it is  unfair advantages to get them early. i think release dates are good...... but not that it maters, i can get mine early, but thats just my bit of bonus as i work there
