I figured this thread would come sooner or later so I might as well just post it now that I\'ve seen it.
Anyways, I thought the movie was excellent. Lots of style and tons of great little homages to lots of different movies and cult hits. Some are much more subtle then others, but there\'s lots of them to be sure.
Go see it if you can tolerate large amounts of violence and gore and post back in here afterwards. I\'m better at making a discussion then I am opening up new topics. :)
-
Gonna see it soon..
-
saw it last nite..
WOW!
It completely blew me away...damn, I wanna bang lucy liu.
-
Loved it. Though it did lack classic Tarinitno dialouge , but from what I understand Volume 2 has more of that and less action.
The Vivian Fox opening scene was alittle to long , for my tastes. I didn\'t care for her character or any of the dialouge / fight scenes with her. I thought the movie took off once it went back to showing Uma in the hospital. Just my two cents.
-
So how many people noticed the goldish dots on the print that made letters?
-
I noticed them. It\'s to track piracy or some such. First movie where I REALLY noticed them though.
I loved the film right from its opening 70\'s/60\'s titles and the "Ancient Klingon Proverb" quote. I loved how it had extremely exagerrated sound effects for lots of the fight scenes such as the ones with the blood splattering and the sounds of guts landing on the floor. I loved the entire scene in the bar with the help and the bartender and how he preferred to watch his soap operas.
If you can\'t tell already -- I loved this movie. I\'ve found those who knock it on the net have the same stupid generic complaints one could have about any movie, but I question their state of mind when they saw this film. How can one fault the plot of a revenge picture? IT\'S REVENGE! WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED?! Stupid.
-
Renenge is best served cold  Can\'t wait to see it. What was the name of the fight coordinater? I could swear I\'ve heard it before. I belive he has a part in the movie also.
-
I loved the part where uma cuts lucy and you hear teh gurgling like blood pouring, but it\'s just the japanese fountain...
-

Yuen Ping - I believe.
He also done fight cordination for \'The Matrix\' films and \'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon\'.
-
I want to see this movie so damn bad!
-
This movie rocked!
Best part... Then she fought Vivica A. Fox (Copperhead?) and Copperhead shot through the cereal box labeled, "Kaboom" (or something of that nature)... Hah, I laughed.
I especially loved the second half of the movie when it cut to the Anime scenes, that was sexcellent! And the setting where Lucy Liu and Uma Therman fought was very well setup.
This > Everything else in theaters.
-
Loved it. One of my favorite films, ever.
The music, transistions, exaggeration...everything was just so stylish.
The break dancing with two swords was just too cool...I was smiling the whole time.
[sp]My favorite part would have to be when Uma and O\'Ren Ishi were fighting. Uma just got a hit in on O\'Ren, they both staggered around a bit then O\'Ren apologized for ridiculing her. Uma accepted, then they waited for each other to get ready. Besides being a beatiful fight scene all together, that was just awesome.
I also want to know why they were after her in the first place. Then why the kept her daughter alive.[/sp]
Anyone have an idea when Kill Bill 2 comes out?
-
blah, refusing to see it
-
mm, I\'m probably going to regret this, but why refuse to see it?
I thought you liked the old school martial arts films. Doesn\'t this movie use alot of those styles?
-
please dont confuse this trash with "old school martial art films"
its insulting
-
MM, not everthing has to be high-brow , old school. Some movie\'s are made jsut for fun.
Sheesh.
-
spending $8.50 for 1.5 hours of tarintino over-production is not my idea of fun
-
This movie is one big homage to old martial arts movies and anime. Me likey. Music was 60\'ish which I liked. The Bruce Lee style motorcycle outfit was awesome!
Oh, and Oshii\'s little side kick....man....she was shmokin\'! :D
-
looks tacky to me, i\'ll be a rent a flick.
-
Anyone have an idea when Kill Bill 2 comes out?
February.
please dont confuse this trash with "old school martial art films"

I figured it\'d be either you or LiC to act "too cool to appreciate anything" and after LiC posted that he liked it, I had hopes for you. Then you ridicule it without even seeing it and that just made up for it in a big way. Utterly hilarious and totaly expected.
-
too cool?
how about "too cultured"
i saw the previews, therefore i saw the film
-
Whatever you say. No point in discussing it further with you now because even if after you saw it and the movie humbled you in a thousand different ways, you\'d never post so in here after what you\'ve said. It\'s always better to be ignorant then it is to be wrong.
-
stop bro, yer making me laugh
do you have any clue why tanintino\'s films are so popular?
three words, low attention span

ogami would be pissed
-
Too cultured is also another way of saying "high-brow, overly artsty-fartsy".
The fact that you think every film has to have a different meaning, other than to simply entertain is just sad.
You are missing on some decent popcorn flicks.
It\'s a lot like those people who quit listening to a band because they "Sell out".
-
Kill mm
-
In October of 2003, Uma Thurman will... KILL MM .
-
my cultured tastes are too refined to watch shit like this
just like you guys dont have the capacity to watch true classic cinema
shame you dont know who ogami was
-
Shut up, for the love of god shut up
-
MM is just a lazy bastard. Quit with your soap operas and get the freakin\' tea ready, damnit!
-
seems you like nothing that came out after 1980.... you\'re missing some good stuff, but to each his own.
-
ok...last night my girlfriend wanted to see it and had free passes from her friend that works at the local mega-stupid-plex theatre.
"i liked pulp fiction so i wanna see kill bill" and "who\'s jackie brown?" she said, were the begginings of my hellish evening.
the theatre was packed with early teens (i wanted to vomit on them), and naturally they showed commercials for diet coke, motorola and previews for matrix revolutions and lotr:rotk  why didnt they just whore the next star wars preview and get it over with?
like all tarintino films, it was overly violent, which didnt bother me. the blood spray and beheading got old after the second time. hey tarintino! mushashi miyamoto was doing it 30 years ago! one word, sanjuro
someone PLEASE teach these women how to hold thier blades. every samuri just rolled in thier graves when lucy lui put her katana back in the sheath with blood on the edge.
and **** tarintino for making the great, great gordon liu have a part in this mockery. gordon deserves better. you pig, than having him say "i shave my head, im not bald"
lance mungia did better with six string samurai that what quentin did on a 100 million dollar budget.

all in all, i dont care if you like kill bill.
its typical hollywood trash that you people flock for to hand him your money and felate him for more
-
So did you like it or not?

You have a girlfriend? Damn, I need to get out more. If MM can get a girlfriend, than surely I can. Hell, he\'s more stuck up and cynical than even I.
And even if you liked it just alittle - you\'d never admit it. However, if you don\'t like it, that\'s your choice.
-
I thought you weren\'t into relationships Licky? What happened to you, man? You used to be so hardcore. I looked up to you. You\'ve changed man, you used to be all about the music, now you\'re just in it for the money. Bonafied.

You didn\'t note my oh-so-sly, uber-sarcasm,eh!?!?
I\'m not a sellout, damnittttttttttttt..
-
ok...last night my girlfriend wanted to see it and had free passes from her friend that works at the local mega-stupid-plex theatre.
I didn\'t even bother to read the rest of your post after that. It\'s always typical that if someone hates something to a massive degree without even seeing it/playing it, they somehow get to see it/play it for free therefore they are free to ridicule it however which way they see fit. I\'m betting that\'s exactly what the rest of your post is. You went in with a million assumptions so at least one of them would be right so you could come in here and post just how much you hated it.
Regardless though, that doesn\'t matter. You already made up your mind before you went in there and it\'s nice to see that you can test your own stubborn attitude and feel confident that nothing can sway it in another direction. Hooray for you. As I said previously though...

I wonder if mm just buys every DVD with "Classic" written on them..
mm, do u even know how to hold a sword right? or even, what they teach you before u can even pick up one? You won\'t find the answers in any movie...
-
If he doesn\'t like it, that\'s his right. I do find it odd that everytime we bring up a movie we all get schooled in "classics" & "culture". Personally, I love some of the classics such as \'Seven Samurai\',\'Throne of Blood\', \'Wages of Fear and other movie\'s, but not every movie has to have a deeper meaning. I don\'t want every movie to be epic. Sometimes, I want a stylish, popcorn flick and that is was Tarintino delivered.
Though I have to point out a few things..
someone PLEASE teach these women how to hold thier blades. every samuri just rolled in thier graves when lucy lui put her katana back in the sheath with blood on the edge.
Alright - if that is one of the biggest complaints you can come up with, then please, go back and watch it. Out of all the outrageous violence, over-the-top things, you complain about someone not wiping their katana? Sheesh.
and **** tarintino for making the great, great gordon liu have a part in this mockery. gordon deserves better. you pig, than having him say "i shave my head, im not bald"
I also like how you lay all the blame on Tarintino there. Saying that Gordon deserved better and what not. I don\'t know if you realize this, but obviously Gordon agree\'d to do the movie and get paid. Tarintino did not hold him at gun-point. Instead, Tarintino has Gordon and other people to star in the movie and guess what? They did and they got paid. So, instead of goin\' on a "kill Tarintino" mode over Gordon\'s apperance in the movie, consider the simple fact that Gordon appeared in the movie on his own free will. Or would you have to accept that your idols / favorite actors would do such a terrible crime?
the theatre was packed with early teens (i wanted to vomit on them), and naturally they showed commercials for diet coke, motorola and previews for matrix revolutions and lotr:rotk why didnt they just whore the next star wars preview and get it over with?
You do know, that previews are for...previews of up and coming movie\'s and that it is common to have previews of future blockbuster films, right? This isn\'t something new. Infact, previews have been around along long time, even when they was making "classics".
-
I want to see some mods start banning eachother like world leaders bombing eachother frantically into the night
I\'m fried
-
If he doesn\'t like it, that\'s his right.
It is his right and I should have stated so more clearly in my last post. The thing I\'m annoyed with is the people who think movies who are popular are somehow tainted by the popularity. It\'s the same thing that happens with bands -- when they become popular, somehow, their music just isn\'t the same to a lot of people for whatever reason. I\'m guessing mm is the same with movies and it gets tired after awhile.
I guess after all is said and done, all I\'m trying to say is that, mm, you need to lighten up man. :)
-
im glad you said it and not me
"tainted by popularity"
kill bill will do well for one reason, and one reason only
tarintino did it, and he did pulp fiction
oh, and go rent six string samurai or sanjuro, slackers
-
I recommend Waterboy, Wicked City, Highlander and Debbie Does Dallas. :p
-
and grab "lupine wolf" while yer at it, and some "zatoichi", perhaps even "shaolin master killer"
:P
-
Simpsons Season 1 and 2 :D

You know there\'s a million of fine looking women in the world, dude. But they don\'t all bring you lasagna at work, most of them just cheat on you.

Before you assume we\'re all "slackers", it should be noted that I own Sajnuro, along with a few other Kurosawa films.
Also, I\'m about to start the Zatochi collection.
I love the classics also, but I can also accept mindless popcorn flicks.
Oh yeah - and I\'m not a huge fan of \'Pulp Fiction\', I prefer his first effort.
..(starts singing.."Stuck in the middle with you"...)
-
I do have respect for mm. Seriously. But if you are just going to come in here and bash another flick then you should seriously leave now. Im sure you dont really care what these people have to say to or about you and since you dont like practically any newer films then whats the point of expressing your opinion if all of us already know it? Basically all you are doing here is spamming since all of your posts are useless to both you and the rest of us. You certainly arent contributing (anything new at least). Like i said i DO have respect for you, but for a man like yourself, this is just plain silliness.
ANYWAY, [SP]I did enjoy the film a lot and i had doubts in the beginning that this wasnt going to live up to any sort of hype that had been put out. Of course there is your typical Terintino sense of time and music (sorta) but everything plays together well. Im glad it was done in two parts. If it were one then there would be a lot missing from the film (Of course some would say its just a way to get more money out of people!).
The animation scenes were great and they were a much route to take then actually having actors play that role. I mean could you honestly have done better with actors? The exaggeration that you are allowed in animation looks and feels much better in anime and if it had been done in real life it basically would have looked like a Charlies Angel flick. Sure it could have been done nicely but the animation was a nice portion of variety.[/SP]
-
nothing to contribute?!
90% of you have no clue who shintaro katsu was and thats terrible
let me say one good thing about the film, rza
jim jarmusch > quentin tarintino
-
While that may be true, you could also say that 90% of the world doesnt either. And then there are the few of us that do know who Shintaro Katsu is. The fact of the matter is that half of the people on here could care less. You wont reach anybody by SOUNDING like a movie snob. I am willing to bet that half of the people on here have never even seen a Kurosawa flick either. Sure its somewhat sad, but what are we really going to do? Bitch an moan wasting our own energy for something that people will barely listen to seriously? Personaly I\'d choose not to.
-
sounding like a movie snob? i am a card carrying member
-
Im sure that is true, but ask anyone that has responded in these threads and they would think that you sound like a snob (for the lack of a better word). If that were not the case, then i dont think they would be so against your opposition of such films.
-
they have NO reason to be opposed to the films i suggest
im doing them a favor
-
you must be a hot date at a movie, mm. Girls must find that kind of cynicism and contempt refreshing and attractive. You know, \'cos they NEVER have to face that kind of scrutiny from men...
;) p.s. I think everyone\'s just jealous. Not everyone could actually go rent some obscure cinematic masterpieces and know who made them. I can\'t believe Kurosawa plays for the Yankees now.
-
geez guys, give it a rest. mm shared his opinion and that\'s all it is.
Now, everyone together:
Wiggle your big toe.
:D
-
Christ. I think half of us has seen Seven Samurai. I think most people here who\'s seen "Tora Tora Tora" may already know that Kurosawa directed the Japanese perspective of the movie.
BUT YOU DON\'T SEE ME SAYING "OH MY STARS! HAVE YOU NO TASTE? GO WATCH A KUROSAWA MOVIE!"
And when mm made the comment about Kurosawa turning in his grave when one of us said that Fellowship of the Rings was the best movie, I thought...."It\'s not even in the same genre!" Of course.....LIC locked the thread. Why? Coz I brought up an old thread (although others have, yet didn\'t lock those)
mm reminds me of those geeks who think they\'re smarter than everyone but they work in a comic book store full time.

So let me get this straight. You\'re flaming a person who made his mind up about an entire film based soley on the trailer, in a post where you decided you don\'t need to read his entire post based purely on the first sentence?
:stick:
-
gmanjoe, taunt me all you want, my time is too precious to play yer game. i\'ll string you along for a little bit untill i grow bored, scamper along now
actually, my girlfriend hated the movie as well. i looked over at one point because i thought i heard her snoring
and i mentioned at least 5-6 non-kurosawa films in this thread alone you don\'t have the caliber to watch
-
mm...making an ass-u-mption again. Like I said....I don\'t brag about what other films I\'ve seen directed by Kurosawa when this thread is about Kill Bill. What you\'re doing is SPAMMING about Kurosawa.
Whoopdeedoo. "Oy! He turned over in his grave coz someone thought a non Kurosawa film was the best he evAR saw!"
Get over it, mm. You\'re too old to be acting like this. They have their opinion and you\'ve shown your ass to us plenty (as you know, opinions are like ass holes : everyone has one). mmkay? :D
-
my opinion is this : Kill Bill sucks
people saying "its the greatest film" are ignorant
"its a throwback or a homage to classic fung fu/samurai films"
wrong, its an insult and a mockery
i am a film afficionado
again, Akira Kurosawa is just one director i name. i could list dozens more, but you don\'t care, but thats yer loss. i wasnt even the one that mentioned him 1st in this thread
even soully wont see it, now that says something
-
Name some. I might try it. Stop being so pretentious. We\'re not closed minded when it comes to entertainment. Just that not all of us have the time for three hour Kurosawa movies. Honestly, I\'ve seen Kurosawa flicks since I was in high school. It was an International School so of course Kurosawa was a fan favorite amongst the non-American students. It\'s been years but I think my favorite is the Hidden Fortress (or Castle). Seven Samurai wasn\'t available at the time but I did rent it two years ago.
-
i wont waste my time, i\'ve tried repeatedly to persuade people to try something other than what hollywood shoves down thier throat.
its no use, people love popular media.
kurosawa is the greatest director that ever lived, but he has not made most of my favorite films

Oh mighty mm....I prostrate myself before thee! PLEASE! NAME ONE DIRECTOR AND ONE FILM FOR THIS LOWLY POSTER TO WATCH! JUST ONE!
Come on. don\'t be ashamed if i\'ve already seen it.
-
no
now stop spamming
:)
-
Now you\'ve got my nipples perked. I wanna know. Stop teasing. Don\'t make me play "Eye of the Tiger" and pole dance to it. You know that gets you to do anything I say. :p
-
actually, you\'de have to play the theme song from "flashdance"
that song always gets me wet
-
Not that i won\'t see it, i just won\'t pay 13 bucks to see it at the flicks. It\'s a rent a flick for me..
-
Anyone else get the feeling this thread is a name-dropping snobbish thread?
Oh, I know this person! I know this film. Bullshit! I know this entire series of films! I know the year it was made.
Ugh...I\'m sure you guy\'s get my drift.
And MM, I don\'t think anyone claimed it was the greatest film ever. Or even a throwback to the older films. Infact, I know I didn\'t. I kept reffering to it as a decent popcorn flick.
Argh!
:)
-
when you guys go the movies, you puke up 9$, sit amongst teens that talk thru the entire movie on thier cell phone mom bought them or the ghetto trash that just dont give a F about anyone but thier sloppy selves.
then you fill that void you puked up with overproduction, over directed, over acted crap.
and the best part about it?! you go back for more!
yer funding a 200 million dollar commercial with a 30 million dollar spokesperson
not me, im down at the local independant theatre watching a bogart film with my snacks they allow to be brought from home (oh wait, im supposed to pay 6$ for a tub of popcorn and 4$ for a watered down soda!).
you\'ll be watching terminator 23 the revenge while i\'ll be watching rebel without a cause
oh, and look back thru the thread, youll find two seperate people say the exact quotes i stated
oh and....
The film, which cost $65 million to make, opened in first place this weekend, taking in $22.7 million, according to the box-office tracking company Exhibitor Relations, beating out "School of Rock" and the George Clooney-Catherine Zeta-Jones screwball comedy "Intolerable Cruelty."

How is it you can generalize such a large group of people? I go to the movies almost every other week and have done so since my friends and I could drive. The last 5 years have been pleasant movie going experiences except ONE time...some college guys were sitting behind us and drinking beer they had snuck in. While obnoxious, it didn\'t ruin my movie going experience for life.

I like how you hit on such issues without actually saying anything.

Yes I am! I\'m actually going to see Underworld for my second time today:)
yer funding a 200 million dollar commercial with a 30 million dollar spokesperson
I\'m just going to see a movie, plain and simple. I don\'t care what goes on behind the scenes, it doesn\'t involve me. I go to be entertained and most of those big budget films do just that.
not me, im down at the local independant theatre watching a bogart film with my snacks they allow to be brought from home (oh wait, im supposed to pay 6$ for a tub of popcorn and 4$ for a watered down soda!).
sets a torch to mm\'s little soap box
Get off it man, what does it matter to you what everyone else is doing...or not doing?
you\'ll be watching terminator 23 the revenge while i\'ll be watching rebel without a cause.
Kind of funny YOU mention that movie...kinda fits.;)
-
Ouch, Film Feud, Otta be a game show
:chainsaw:
-
Actually, my local cinema charges $1 for maintee and anything later is a whopping $3...Not $9.
-
Im actually suprised that this thread isnt locked. Its not worth debating over because in the end, nobody is going to change their mind about the cinema they veiw, only about the rest of the people on these boards. I like stupid ass popcorn shit flicks, some, and then i love great cinema. And yes i can like both of them and do i care what the next man likes or doesnt or even better yet, what he thinks of me? Hell ****ing no. And out of the groups of people mm just named, id be none of them and will never be. I dont spend my money on shitty ass popcorn and the whole gamut. As a matter of fact i hate popcorn.
So really, you all just need to get off your f*ing rock or w/e it is that you sit on, up your ass or otherwise and just take the fact that we are all different and if mm hates over commercialized bullshit yadda yadda then so be it.
I just woke up so i guess im cranky or something. Anybody seen ghost world? What was that line about the popcon? Medium is for suckers when for just 35 extra cents you can have large? Heres your over salted tub up lard
-
Why pay to watch crap, when you can do it for free. :D

Why watch crap in the first place? :p

OK, I guess I\'ll address this to mm:
Much of the mass culture is crap, that is definitely true. However there are still people making good films outside AND inside the Hollywood studio system. I\'m surprised you\'re picking on Tarantino so severely. He\'s made a total of four films at a very slow pace, and none of them were typical of the modern Hollywood formula for successful big budget releases. They were like nothing else issued by these Hollywood studios. The only films that were in any way similar to them in modern Hollywood were made by those imitating him. He still retains his own unique and recognizable style. To me that one definition of an artist; a recognizable, definable style or "voice" to state it as a cliche.
Everything Tarantino does references and constructs from earlier genres. You say it\'s an "insult and a mockery," as if it was your own art he was mocking. That is not the case. In fact, it\'s hard for me to understand such bitterness. Every piece of art man has ever made was an extension of the predecessors that artist learned from. It has always been this way, but it seems you would prefer that it were not. I don\'t understand that. What an empty world this would be if all we had to look at were the FIRST filmmakers to ever create a certain genre or a certain style. We would all be watching the same films by Kurosawa or Jean Renoir or Sergio Leone or Arthur Penn over and over and over. Nothing new ever created, only these old classics preserved in formaldehyde forever.
So now I\'ve given some clues about the directors I love and respect. Maybe you can find fault with some of them given a little effort. You should know however that I am also a huge appreciator of Jim Jarmusch and Wim Wenders. These are modern filmmakers, not members of the old school. They got where they are by using visual language invented by their predecessors. I will agree that Jarmusch is a more talented director than Tarantino, but the difference I think is that I recognize that it doesn\'t matter. There will always be some artists that are better than others. Some more capable of sustained, consistent brilliance, while others have to be satisfied with occasional sparks of brilliance and imperfect creations. I take it all in and enjoy the parts that are there to enjoy. Just because Tarantino isn\'t as good Jarmusch doesn\'t mean his films are automatically crap.
You may still believe they are crap, either because they are financially successful, or too unsubtle, or too expensive, or whatever. You\'re entitled to that opinion. I just don\'t feel you have the right to damn the rest of us for liking his stuff, and assume that we all have no taste because of it.
Seek to understand before making yourself understood.

So I just came back from seeing Kill Bill, and you know what.....I liked it (*GASP* nO-One has no taste in movies!!!, there were a few things I liked, like in the beginning it had the old Klingon proverb "revenge is a dish best served cold" I liked that a lot. And I liked the silly amound if blood when people were being chopped, I liked that.
Call me a simple minded fool but I\'m easily entertained, all the movie lacked were boobies and a few explotions.
:p
-
I expected at lot out of this movie and was really let down. I would not go see part 2 because part 1 had so many flaws. Would have been better if it was done by someone else. I think he tried to hard.
And had the wrong actresses. I would have used Men and made it more hardcore. Too weak. Just a lot of overblown this and that.
-
^^^^ not the best person to be agreeing with me, but i\'ll take it
-
The previews on television are good for some laughs, no more interest then that

Those weren\'t flaws...the movie was entirely consistent in its\' concept. Revenge has been done to death...this was the first time I had a smile on my face while watching it.
I guess some people are just dense or without imagination...

I actually liked it as well. This is the first time I\'ve stepped into this thread because I figured there would be spoilers.
I liked the over the top fight scenes. The obnoxious blood and sound effects.
It was a fun movie.
If I want to be enlightened I\'ll go watch History channel for free.
-
It wasn\'t Gordon who said the "bald" line...
And the best part of the movie was GoGo...
And I\'m not talking about her fight scene, which was the best fight scene of the movie but thats not really saying much...
-
Only saw it last night.. I was laughing half the time too.
oh and... Gogo is hot! :D

I haven\'t seen it yet. But I seen the trailer and it says, In 2003, Uma will Kill Bill.
I read a site that make fun of tarantino about that 2003, and say guess we have to wait till 2004. I find that quite true and ridiculous (i mean its funny). Also, the box office, Kill Bill didn\'t do that well.
Unfortunately I didn\'t get a chance to see this movie. Two reasons:
1)Movie ticket cost $7.50. quite expensive for me to watch half a movie. I went to the theaters quite a lot this year, and don\'t want to spend anymore money.
2) Its half a movie. I know, it will be like over 3 hours long if it\'s two movie. But I guess the major reason why it didn\'t do that well in box office because they think Tarantino is greedy for money.
Also, I don\'t know Tarantino and never seen his movie before, but I heard this guy is so in love with himself. He gives himself too much credits.
But, I will buy it when it hit DVD. I hate waiting and i wanted to see it. Oh well.
-
^ .... some ppl....
Anyway, Kill Bill ain\'t out here in Dutch theaters yet. I saw Tarantino\'s Resevoir Dogs and i thought it was quite good.
-
All of my friends who saw this movie didn\'t know who the hell Tarantino is.
Anyone know who GoGo is? I need to Google her. :)
-
Her name is Chiaki Kuriyama. She was also in a great movie that everyone should own, yes I\'m talking about \'Battle Royale\'.
-
I knew I could depend on you nerds!
j/k :p
-
Mmmmm GoGo. Anyway, ive seen it 3 times already. I only payed the first time i saw it and the last for 4.50.

Kill Bill is actually doing quite alright...it managed to gross about 60 million. I\'d say that\'s pretty good considering the off beat movie it is. Click here to see for yourself:P (http://movies.yahoo.com/boxoffice/latest/rank.html)
I believe they made both films for a combined total of around 50 million...but I could be wrong about that.
Also, Matrix Reloaded was half a movie...did you bitch about that too?
Tarantino is strange person...very strange. I\'ve seen him in a couple of interviews and I wouldn\'t say he\'s in love with himself...just eccentric.
-
Indeed they made \'em both for $50 million, which means, they have already cleared enough. Now take in consideration on how Volume 2 may do - and it could end up being extremely profitable for Miramax.
-
Don\'t forget DVD sales...
-
Not to mention international sales..

Battle Royale.....*shudder* Lord of the Flies on speed

saw it last night, lucy lui looks soooooooo hot with her hair short, and flicked up.... was a very very good film, cant wait for sequel, only thing i didnt like, was at the very end he asked "if she knew her baby was still alive" it was sooooo cliche, i was watching, thinking i hope they dont ay that one line, and then they did.... grrrrrrrrrrrr
cool thy hadsunny cheeba in it ( spelt wrong nodoubt)
-
Oh well, I finally saw this movie.
Let me start by saying that that GoGo chick isn\'t hot. Her nose looks like it belongs on an eagle. You people just *fap fap fap* because of the school girl uniform. ;)
About the movie... I wasn\'t that impressed. I\'m not saying it\'s totally bad, but I don\'t think it\'s good either. It was average. I mean, stylistically (is that even a word ;)) it\'s good, the fights are alright (although there are only so many ways you can kill someone with a sword), but the movie just didn\'t grab me. I was never like "oooh that\'s just cool/funny/great" or whatever.
Bring on vol. 2.
6.5/10.

Reading back over some of the posts in this thread (mainly this page and the quotes within), it\'s not surprising to see some of the comments now in the Matrix Revolutions thread about this movie especially from Paul2 who had written this movie off well before he had even seen it. Oh, and Quddus just has no taste. It\'s that simple. :p Lets keep the Volume 2 chatter in here as well so we don\'t have to create a new thread for it this Friday.

Ryu,
you on crack? What do you mean i written the movie before i seen it? I rented the damn tape last night. Want me to spoil the story?
-
Sigh. Your old post in this thread about the film was posted before you had seen it yesterday. Shall I quote it yet again even though it\'s quoted in this thread already? Here, to refresh your own memory:
I haven\'t seen it yet. But I seen the trailer and it says, In 2003, Uma will Kill Bill.

oh i see what you mean. I thought you were talking about me writing a review of the movie even though i haven\'t seen it yet but i have. Ok, glad i clear up.
btw,
what do you mean when you say this:
it\'s not surprising to see some of the comments now in the Matrix Revolutions thread about this movie especially from Paul2
-
To put it simply, I figured you had simply watched it, thought negatively about it and posted your comments accordingly, but with the comments in this thread that you made well before you had even seen it, it\'s no longer surprising that you disliked it so. You disliked it before even sitting down to watch it so of course you\'re going to walk away with that kind of an opinion after viewing it.
If you think a movie is stupid before going in to watch it, the film needs to do an awful lot to curry favor with the already negative viewer -- it\'s as simple as that.
-
I had never heard of Tarentino before I saw Kill Bill, and I thought it was awesome. Funny and entertaining.
-
Where the hell do you live, Stapler? Under a rock? When\'d you move in, 1992? :)
-
Kill Bill 2 is out this Friday.... I can\'t wait. :D
-
Are Q. Tarentino\'s other movies any good? :)
-
From Dusk till Dawn is one of my all time favorites.
-
Dusk till Dawn was great up until when Selma Hayek turned into a vampire.
Pulp Fiction is easily his best movie. Reservoir Dogs is also pretty awesome.

What kinda stripper doesn\'t take her top off???
...no matter how FREAKIN\' HOT she was

Yeah really... I think I popped my first boner watching her dance with that snake...

Reservoir Dogs > Kill Bill Vol.1 > Jackie Brown > Pulp Fiction >
That is how it goes from best to worst - all in my opinion of course. I\'m not a fan of Pulp Fiction....
And for the record - he did not direct From Dusk \'till Dawn - so don\'t count in it as a Tarintino film, even if he did have a lot to do with it. Just like he had a lot to do with Natrual Born Killers - but it is not a film he directed.

Hey ryu man I tried to like this movie. I was hype for it almost a year b4 it even hit theaters. It just was not all that good man. I would have loved to give this movie 4 stars but you can\'t. 2 at the most.
-
The title of the thread indicates there might be spoilers so I\'m covered here...
Just got back from Vol. 2 and I must say that I loved it.
While the fight scenes don\'t match the collective energy of the first volume, volume two digs in to the background story that fans were waiting for...along with some nice action. The fact that this is a love story just gives the collective film some depth and the movie pulls it off beautifully, imo.
Meeting Budd I was a bit underwhelmed but after getting some background on him he started to fit.
Elle Driver did not disappoint...she turned out to be the bad ass I thought she was in the first part. I can only pray that a sequel is made with her character in it. Quentin said himself in an interview the other day that he left a character open that "with some training could come back". The question mark on her name on the credits was a little nod too;) <---- That\'s damn exciting.
Bill...best. villan. ever.
As I said, I would LOVE to see a sequel with Elle Driver and possibly Sophie Fatale. Perhaps the sequel could involve Nikki...they certainly have their reasons.:D
Also, "Hero" looks totally freakin\' cool!1!!!!!111
-
I saw this with the Punisher today, but I\'ll leave Punisher stuff in that thread.
I thought this movie suffered quite a bit in terms of pacing as it was far too slow and just didn\'t have the pop that the first volume had, but I have to give credit to Tarantino for crafting scenes of dialogue that kept me interested all the way through with the questions being posed, the points being made, and the wit being displayed. Bill\'s entire Superman\\Clark Kent reference was really right up my alley and I\'m sure anyone can relate by simply knowing anything about these characters. Heck, lots of people do the alternate personality thing on the Internet everyday with the person they want to be and the person they truly are but no one is the wiser thanks to anonymity. A truly masterful stroke on Tarantino\'s part on bringing that up.
My other dissapointment lies with the backstory presented in this volume. Elle\'s backstory, in particular, was severely stunted whereas Tarantino went ahead and gave O-Ren an entire animated and tragic backstory to her final rise to power and to her eventual death. We know everything there is to know about O-Ren, but we know nothing about Verneeta, Elle, and, to an extent, Budd. I thought that was quite a bit dissapointing as O-Ren was given this whole animated sequence and everyone else was given a short stint and that was about it.
Other then that, I thought it was very well done. People are going to give a lot of comparison between this volume and the previous one, but people should keep in mind, for the most part anyways, that this is one entire movie. When you consider that fact, the whole experience was incredibly entertaining.
-

True...but it was not intended from the get go as two films. Tarintino said he would have liked it to be one big film with an intermission. It was later decided by himself and Miramax that it should be two films.
While I\'m not sure of the background for Verneeta or Budd...leaving Elle Driver\'s background unexplored gives more reason to do a sequel with her.
You know what else I was thinking about...there\'s nothing that proves Bill is dead. He obviously still loved her and could have used that five point exploding hand technique as a way out...
-
He said that he never knew the technique because Pai Mei never taught it to him. How could he use it as a way out?
-
He knew it had been done to him..."Pai Mai taught you the exploding hand technique"..."of course he did".
Bill knew the technique involved being touched on five different pressure points...he said so in his story by the fire.
-
Nono, I mean that Bill could never use it nor had he witnessed it, but he knew what it was because of the legend and since Pai Mai never taught it to him, he figured Pai Mei would never teach it to Beatrix.
-
Right...but what I\'m proposing is that Beatrix didn\'t do it right. Bill just knew what she had done(attempted) and in a sense played along to end the feud.
^It\'s just a theory as to how the series could possibly still involve Bill. Though I think it ended perfectly if Bill really did die.
Personally I\'d rather see Elle Driver as the main villan if there is a sequel.
Question...was Lisa Wong(shotgun) the same assassin from the House of Blue Leaves? (One of O-Ren\'s henchmen)
-
You guys need to get your details straight.
It was called the "Five point palm exploding heart" technique
Also, the character of the woman with the shotgun was not Lisa Wong. The character was "Karen Kim" who works for Wong. However, the character\'s real name is probably Karen Wong, Lisa\'s sister, attempting to disguise herself as a Korean. Confused yet? :)
-
I guess now is not the idea time to tell you all that there was A LOT cut for the special edition DVD release, including another entire ANIME sequence and back story...
And Tarintino has already said any Vol 3 he does will actually be about the child who see\'s her mother killed (Verenita) in VOL 1.
-

Just got back from seeing it again and got the details straight. The actress who plays Karen looks extremely similar to one of the women in the Crazy 88 gang. The one Beatrix pins up against the pillar.

That\'s great...but I\'ll be disappointed if Elle Driver is not involved. The question mark on her name in the credits is just too much to let it go.
From http://everythingtarantino.com/
"Oh yeah, initially I was thinking this would be my \'Dollars\' trilogy. I was going to do a new one every 10 years. But I need at least 15 years before I do this again," the director tells Entertainment Weekly magazine in its April 16 issue.
Tarantino says Uma Thurman (news), who plays a bride out for revenge in the series that began last year, won\'t be the star.
"The star will be Vernita Green\'s (Vivica A. Fox (news)\'s) daughter, Nikki (Ambrosia Kelley). I\'ve already got the whole mythology: Sofie Fatale (Julie Dreyfus) will get all of Bill\'s money. She\'ll raise Nikki, who\'ll take on The Bride," he says. "Nikki deserves her revenge every bit as much as The Bride deserved hers. I might even shoot a couple of scenes for it now so I can get the actresses while they\'re this age."
Maverick director Quentin Tarantino is planning an animated prequel to his Kill Bill movies - to show the early life of the deadly assassin. The film will be drawn in the Japanese manga style already seen in Kill Bill Volume 1 and will focus on the three men - pimp Estebian Vihaio and martial arts masters Hattori Hanzo and Pei Mai - who turned Bill into a ruthless killer. The Oscar-winning writer and director will write and produce the film. Tarantino has also speculated that he could return to Kill Bill\'s world in 15 years time to follow the daughter of a character killed in the first film. The popular filmmaker - who took five years off after directing Jackie Brown to return to the screen with the violent revenge saga - is next set to direct a segment of Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller\'s comic book adaptation Sin City.
Good news:)
-
You guys need to get your details straight.
Don\'t get me involved in that one. I can\'t get wrong what I never mentioned. ;)
Also, LiC, I know there was a TON cut from both of these volumes, but that\'s what the super extended hyper special elite DVD edition boxset with gift mug\\sword\\t-shirt and kill bill Q-tips will be for. It\'s the primary reason why I didn\'t bother buying the DVD released this past Tuesday. It\'ll be much more worth it to wait a year.
-
Can I also go ahead and burst Ginko\'s bubble on the animated prequel and sequel? As a Tarintino fan, I know that half of what he says and plans never actually happens. What happned to the Vega Brother film? The war film? The gallio film? The list goes on and on. He is always talking about these films he has ready or wanting to make and they never happen. We may see an animated prequel, depending on VOL 2\'s box office take and DVD sales, but we won\'t see a Volume 3.
-
bubble stays intact and runs away!
-
No we will never see a VOL.3. IMO that would be incredibly stupid. Dont get my wrong, I loved the movies, but wtf could you do to make a third film work and still be good? Elle - im sorry, but there is no future for her. She has NO EYES! It would be stupid if she got robotic implants and even more lame if she gained some sense so powerful that she didnt need them... Or at least the way i picture it
As for the inconsistent story division with O-Ren vs Vernita, Elle & Budd, I felt somewhat dissapointed by it. I really wanted to see what Budd could do actually. Even if the rest of the characters didnt get a whole lot more story time. I mean, because you can tell that he was pretty ruthless in previous times just do to his dialoge with certain characters. Not only that but he kept the Hanzo sword implying that there was a part of that life that he just couldnt let go of. Thats why i was dissapointed when Elle planted the Black Mamba.
Also, for a second i didnt like the ending, but for some odd reason, the credit parts or actually, showing her driving with the music and in black in white made me actually like it. Id dont know. And what kind of car was it anyways? I know what it is but i cant put a name to it. I want to say its an Alpine but meh....
Since this is getting long ill just say that If they do make a 3rd film then it would have to be about Vernita\'s daughter, and possibly Elle, but thats pushing it.
-

After seeing just half the stunts pulled off in the House of Blue Leaves chapter, or seeing what Pai Mei can do...I don\'t think anything is out of the question as to how things happen.
It\'s also not unheard of that the other senses get heightened when one is lost.
You guys are absolutely no fun...

Just saw it and I don\'t know..... I am underwhelmed , but I know this is becase it was a different pace.. I watched it and kept thinking the films did not need to be seperate, they would work perfect as one complete film, as Tarintino had originally envisioned...
With that said...My thoughts..
- Michael Madsen\'s character \'Bud\' was great but wasn\'t handled like I wanted. He was cruel and I wanted to see what he could, but we never did really...We never saw his fighting skill, like we did the other characters.
- Elle was done perfectly, great fight scene, but I like the idea she was left blind in a trailer with the black mamba snake. I want you to thank about it for a second.... What was Beatrix Kiddo\'s codename? It was \'Black Mamba\'.. What was Elle left in the trailer with? A black mamba snake. An ironic death for her.
- Loved the ending...
- I could tell a lot was cut from the film, not only due to the fact stuff shown in previous trailers was missing, but it just felt chopped at points.. And I can\'t help but be curious as to what the other anime sequence turned out to be.. I guess all that is for the special edition DVD..
Overall, I\'m mixed on it, I will go see it again tommorw most likely and I can\'t wait to see them back to back.

Not sure if she\'s dead so I won\'t comment on that...did you notice the name of the chapter? "Elle and I" <---- It\'s kinda funny;)

and i mentioned at least 5-6 non-kurosawa films in this thread alone you don\'t have the caliber to watch
OMG?! Do you love watching yourself in the mirror while you\'re girlfriend tells you how handsome you are?
Man you have the biggest head when it comes to movies I\'ve ever ...noticed... "Cultured" in cinema? How can you be "cultured" in cinema? You might be "cultured" in the movies you consider the best. I don\'t think watching old kung-fu movies and memorizing the director\'s, actor\'s and name of movie makes you "cultured"
ANYWAYS!!
I\'ve never watched Kill Bill. I saw the trailer at the movies and I thought it was going to be GAY. Then I bought the movie. And I loved it. So freaking awsome. I\'m sooo cultured in movies that I give this movie 10 out of 5 stars. In fact, my cultured ways make me want to bow down to the DVD case of this movie. I loved it. And from what I\'ve read and looked up, Tarantino did his job in making this movie complete with all kinds of old kung-fu, grindhouse styles and plot.
I didn\'t go see the second movie this weeked b/c my girlfriend was gay and hasn\'t seen the first...Till today. So next weekend baby!!!
KILL BILL!! KILL BILL!!!
I heard the second one slows down a bit on the action and goes more into the chit chat...But as long as the plot and story is good I\'ll love it..
And MM not all teenagers are as ignorant and non-"cultured" as you think. I\'m not "cultured" under your definition of watching as many old movies as I possibly can. But I know what makes up a good movie. Swat, Fast and the Furious, The Mummy and so on are good movies. But not ...that good? The Pianist, A beautiful mind, Gladiator, KILL BILL ARE EXCELLENT!!
And no I havent\' watched any Kitrueitislei jiajselrj iaseiliwe movies or "The old and the fashionable" or some Kiri Juritio movies and whatever other movies your "cultured" kind watch.
Silly rabbit, trix are for kids...
I\'m not bald, I just shave my head...you understand!?

It should be noted that Kill Bill Vol.2 has MM\'s respect, as it features a Johnny Cash song and we all know that means a lot to MM (*points to his comment about \'Dawn of the Dead\' remake getting some respect from him due to it featuring a Cash song) ..
:D

Don\'t confuse me with facts, my mind is already made up.
If ever there was a more fitting signature for a person, I don\'t know what it is.

Pshh...I fixed my signature to accomodate me a little bit better.
Kill Bill!!
Kill Bill!!
Hey has MM ever mentioned what he considered a good movie? B/c by the way he looks at things, the only way a movie could be good is if we brought dead directors from the grave and give them a real low budget and have them make a movie.
-
ehhe, i clicked on this thread by accident, and find mm bashing
i love it!!
I don\'t think watching old kung-fu movies and memorizing the director\'s, actor\'s and name of movie makes you "cultured"
no, but appreciating good cinema is, does

WHAT IS "GOOD CINEMA"?!
In fact, tell me how your ideal movie would go.

6.5/10.
Just watched Volume 1 last night and have to say the same.
Finally got round to renting on VHS (all the DVD where out) it and have to say I am kind of glad that I didn’t rush out and buy the DVD before I watched it.
The thing that ruined it for me was the film’s beyond the call of Duty OTT violence.
Yes the fight scenes where spectacular and the action was just about on the right level, but for some reason it just loved to linger to long on the blood letting to the point where you felt sorry for the “brides” victims.
example
Coppermouths Death… it still can’t put my finger on what switched may emotions from relief on the brides part to pity for coppermouths death.
It could have been the slow mo over egging close up with the shocked expression on her face.
Or it could have been the fact that her 7 year old daughter walked in on it.
Or it could have been the Brides reaction of the daughter and what she says to her.
The rest of the film was fairly inconsistent and moved from moments of greatness (love the magna flask back) to moment of utter pish.
But still ... Roll on Part 2...although after watching part one... i don\'t think i will be parting £5.50 per ticket to see it at the theatre … I’ll just wait till it go’s rental.
Total Score...
2.5 out of 5

I saw them both last weekend and I really liked the first one. It had a lot of style, especially the interesting decision to include the anime short.
The second one, however, I felt was a little flat. There was less action, though still a few good scenes, and a bit of an anticlimactic ending for me.
In my opinion, the first movie made watching the two of them worthwhile. If they were both like the second, it would have been missable.

Just saw Vol2 last night... Pretty good, although Vol1 was better...The whole Pang Mei thing was hilarious...

i know i\'m late with this..but i just watched vol1 last night...and all i can say is that this movie could\'ve had so much more potential..i mean i loved the short anime sequences in it..that really gave it a style all it\'s own...my only complaint is in the way they executed the enemies...i mean they portrayed these enemies as if they were no f**kin\' joke..and then it seems when uma thurman fights them, she\'s defeating them with ease...all that build up for what?
even lucy lui\'s chacracter was raw as hell..but uma went through her with ease as well..i guess you can say i was a bit underwhelmed with the fight scenes. they could\'ve been sooo much better. but that is what happens when you get these high priced hollywood stars with no real skills. you have to really on weak special effects and poorly choreographed (spel) fighting scenes...
