Title: Jak II - Advice/Complain
Post by: Ginko on October 18, 2003, 12:43:50 PM
Not really complaints about the game, more a place to out any rage you have building inside you, missions that have you grinding your teeth.  Hopefully someone can offer advice as I know ANYONE who\'s playing this game is getting frustrated at one point or another.

Right now I am in the water slums and dozens of krimson guards are attacking from all directions.  I also can\'t go hover boarding because I get terminated by some machine if I even touch the water.

I get within viewing range of the gold spot to reach...guards are coming from 3 different directions.  Any advice?

I\'m about to call Jason Rubin and get his happy ass down here to do it for me:mad:

Got past it.  Here\'s some advice for any of those stuck on it.

Use the scatter gun when you have the guards coming at you from one direction.  Starting out the guards try to rush you so this will prove quite effective.

From here on out there\'s a mix of rushing guards and shooters, use the blaster to take out a small number.   When you get 5+ in view then you should take out the vulcan fury and get rid of them.  Conserve your vulcan fury for the big crowds.

You notice the pier zigzags on the way up, on the intersecting paths take a left (avoiding dead ends of course)...you\'ll still have your work cut out for you but it\'s a bit easier to keep the guards in check near the end.

If you followed the possible route to the left then you can easily hold your ground near the end with the scatter gun.

Remember to keep moving...the ships don\'t stop coming.

I know of a better (and probably more fun) way to get past that section. Use the hoverboard, but don\'t get onto the water. It might be a little difficult trying to stay off the water, but I found it worked better than just wading through the dozens of guards.

I move fast. I just get past the vehicles that drop the soldiers off before the soldiers start pouring out of it. Of course the guns on the dropships were a pain and got me a few times, but as long as you keep moving you\'ll get through.
It took me maybe about 3 tries with this technique..

I had a go or two with my hover board, but I either got knocked into the water by the guards, knocked off my board, or shot down by those stupid ships.

Anyway, I\'m past it now and never want to speak of it again!

Protecting the rift rider. What a pain. Anyone done it yet and can give me some advice?

I don\'t believe I\'ve done that yet...can\'t be sure though.  The missions have been more of a chore and forgettable for the most part.

I\'m at 83% and just got the black security pass.

I wish I had a nuke so I could nuke those DAMN 5 hellcats you have to destroy.. :(

Hellcats-

1. Get a big sturdy hover vehicle, and make sure you have plenty of ammo for your vulcan fury.  When you attack the hellcat make sure you aren\'t near any turrets or a big group of guards.

2.  After you\'ve taken one down you need to do two things.  Hide until the guards stop looking for you, then get another vehicle since you\'ve taken damage.

Repeat.

If you happen to get shot down, always get in the nearest vehicle and let it take the damage for you!

Thanks..

I\'ll give it a try tomorrow. I\'ve been stuck on this level for DAYS, I had to take a break because it pissed me off..

No more levels like these in Jak III, please Mr. Rubin. :p

Echo, I just used my blaster and it was a cinch.  Here are some helpful tips though.

Be sure to do it during the day time, you can see them so much more clearly.  Alot of the bigger metal heads come from the stairs so mind them well.

I stayed VERY close to the rift rider constantly swinging my camera around.

[sp]if your stuck on the spider walking bombs a little tip is to get a  hover bike thunder past it and land out of range of its beam. then run or hover board at the bomb..

you should aim to get right under it and then as soon as you are give it hell with the vulcan cannon intil you hear the beeping sound then run like hell.

You used the scatter gun to protect the rift rider?

I think some of the missions make you switch out weapons, or at least you should to take advantage of them in tough situations.

I can say I found myself switching bewteen the blaster and scatter gun most of the time though.

Honestly, that\'s the only reasonable explanation for that statement.

The game is obviously flawed, even based on its\' own merits.  Don\'t get me started as to why they call it a sequel.

Glad you\'re enjoying it though.

the game\'s great, im 97-98 percent done, and i loved the whole thing-you guys are too harsh with it\'s difficulty...complaints, complaints, complaints... some of the best games that i ever played were a pain in the @$$ to beat. also, a sequel needs new stuff! it still has some good old clasic levels outside the city, and jak\'s gun has tripled the game play! anyways it\'s great game, obviously not for everyone, but a nice tough game, ill finish it off tommorrow and wait for Ratchet and Clank:D

It didn\'t triple the gameplay, it just shifted from a platform game to whatever it is now.

Think about it, almost every mission had you either shooting things until you get to the end of the level, or more plainly just shooting something.  The platform elements seem as though they were a second thought to loading the stages full of enemies so you\'d get plenty of gunplay time in...a bore, imo.

ugh...just write your review, if you feel like it of course, and we\'ll get in to it then;)

Glad you liked it though.

Shooting thinhs till you get to the end ?

sorry but i am starting to think your talking about an entirely different game..,.. well unless the European version is different Jak 2 if far removed from just run around and shoot things.

So far I am at 73% and love the diverse selection of both “missions” and total freedom. (Running round to get more precursor relics to unlock more secrets.

Yes some missions are just blast away till you get to the end but I have so far they have been well placed in the story line to avoid the repetition of this or platform stages.

Also I will get a world record in the scatter gun training course if it’s the last thing I do ;).

in short if Jak 2 was a let down for you ... don\'t worry because Ratchet and Clank 2 is still the "classic" platformer.

Good move by both Insomiac and Naughty Dog...

Meh, less shooting more jumping would have been my ticket...

Yes, I am looking forward to R&C 2.

well ok, i guess its understandable that not everyone likes it when a platformer game makes a whole new game and changes everything (w/ the guns) i made my point across on why its a good game in my opinion though, so im not going to bother writing a review :) but since this is a complaints thread i will say, "crap this final boss is getting on my nerves, i got so close to beating him then i died!"

I\'ll give you a little heads up to balance the playing field.

Either go in able to turn into dark Jak or use the scorpions to build up the dark eco so you\'ll be ready to clear the screen in phase two of the fight. (I refer to his energy bar in phases).

Whenever all the scorpions and the flying guards overwhelm you use a dark bomb to clear the screen and it will also deplete his energy to the last phase...or close enough.

The last part is easy enough, just keep circling the pit on your hoverboard while keeping an eye on him.  When you are direclty opposite of him, let him have it with whatever you got. Repeat.
[/sp]

Kudos if you already did this, and try, try again as I\'m sure you\'ve learned by now:)

:)  yup i figured it out after my last post, alittle different strategy involving the hoverboard at the end, but mostly the same thing. Fun game though! NowI kind of feel like playing the first game again.

[sp]What did you do differently with the hoverboard?  I just kept circling until he used the little blast, shot him a couple of times then hopped back on my board. Rinse, lather, repeat...[/sp]

I went back and read the advice then changed it approprietly.

What exactly is progresive scan and can I turn it on or do you have to have a special tv that supports that feature?

And by the way, this is a great game only I hate when people(and reviewers) say "This game has no frameratedrops at all!"

They must have a different version then me because the final level,(not the boss) where you have to break the barrier in the nest and have to attack the nest,is almost one big framedrop for me.As soon as the lightning strikes the game drops significantly.

Just thought I mention that.

i had no framerate problems by the time i got 50% throught the game...or i didn\'t notice them

well I eventually completed the game aswell....

as for the endboss:

[sp]I used the twirl shoot thingy (X + O + R1) to keep the smaller scorpions away and damage him in the process. Then for his last bar, I simply used dark jack to take half of his energy away and used the rest amunition to blast him away. took me a few tries, but eventually got through without serious damage.[/sp]

All in all, great game, though I wish they would have given us 70% adventuring instead of 70% city. Meh.
