Title: N-Gage - Now... my review.
Post by: XxRide R DiexX on October 20, 2003, 09:21:26 AM
So,

I\'ll admit; I\'ve been on board with N-gage for a few months now... so selling me on the device probably wasn\'t the hardest thing Nokia had to do; however, I\'ll also say that after all the talk I heard around the boards, while I was anxious to test it out, my expectations were significantly lowered.

Thankfully, it proved to not be a waste of $300.00, as so many of you had predicted it would be.  While changing the games out is a hassle... I can say I\'ve only done it once or twice in a week... but the other functions more than make up for that deficiency.

The mp3 player is crystal clear, and since I purchased an extra memory card, I can store quite a bit of music.

Gameplay sucks the battery up pretty quickly as compared to the gameboy,  but, as with all phones, I can charge it in my car, even while using it.

I don\'t really use the pda function.. so, sorry, cannot really report on that side.

As for the gaming itself.... the graphic quality is absolutely kickass.... as other people have said, it\'s comparable to the PS1, which for a gaming device its size is really impressive.  I only have Pro Skater and Tomb Raider, but both are pretty in-depth on the N-gage.

Haven\'t had a chance to test out the bluetooth for multi-player yet, but I\'ll report back when I do.

Overall, I wish I would have waited a little longer and got one via one of the rebates they\'re offering now, but regardless, it is worth the cash.. in my opinion.

In your opinion he wasted money. Many of us here would agree with you. BUT DO YOU HAVE TO RUB IT IN? :)

Thanks for the review, XxRide R DiexX. So, you don\'t recommend this handheld over the GB:SP, would you?

good graphx but the games a far to dated for me. PSP and GP32 sound far more interesting.

TOo small of a screen.  I need my portable to have at least a 56" screen or I can\'t figure it out.

G-man...

I recommend the N-gage over the GBA if you aren\'t going to be using it Just  for gaming... the graphics are much better than the gba, but it obviously won\'t have a long list of titles for a while hereafter, even though I am happy with the launch titles.
Do I think it\'s a gba replacement?
Absolutely not... they\'re very different devices. It\'s not really fair to compare them in the first place.

Looks pretty neat.  Is everyone going to be saying "What\'s an N-Gage?" when sony comes out with theirs?

But honestly, don\'t you feel just a little bit silly talking into it?

I mean you could get a good phone and a GBA, but you might feel silly carrying around a GBA.  So I can understand why the N-Gage\'s game function is a little more trendy in public, but how can you hold that thing to your head and not feel like a tool? Heh.

But the Finnish cellular behemoth can\'t be thrilled with the first sales numbers to come out of the U.S. According to numbers from a channel survey done by independent financial analyst company Arcadia Research, the portable console sold less than 5,000 units in America during its first week on the market.

By comparison, Nintendo\'s Game Boy Advance sold 540,000 units its first week on the U.S. market

...sucker!

400,000 is still good. I thought it would sell no more than 13 units. :)

u think mobile sales are like console sales?  for a mobile that costs 300$, 400,000 units  in such a short span of time is extremly good.

It\'s a bit short on teh fuNnAy, but it made me smile.  :)

Of course, now you\'ve put mm (MeloncholyMan) in a bad mood. He rented all the Kurosawa films in all of Pittsburgh, thus depriving many from viewing the culturally great movies. :p

I know you own them. I was saying that you would purposely rent all teh uber films you like so we\'re all deprived for the weekend. ;)

*giggles*

Seriously though, it has the potential to be good, but do they have any good game developers and games coming out?  I haven\'t heard much about it.
