Title: So whats your talent?
Post by: ##RaCeR## on October 20, 2003, 10:11:09 PM
Everyone here must have something that they are good at. Whether it be something creative or artistic (video), musical or dramatic to something like total science wizz (hmmm, Bossieman) or car nerd (Luckee...)

So whats your talent?

I\'m pretty good at drawing. Human form is my favourite, but I also love comic characters and landscapes.

Here\'s something I just finished work on.

A man eh... that\'s no surprise. ;)

Nah just kidding. It looks pretty good - much better than anything I could draw. :)

I particularly like that you\'ve taken the time to draw on the nipple stubble..
Title: So whats your talent?

That is exactly what I was going to say.

Does he shave his nip hair and that is just his 5 o clock shadow?

Yeah, nice detailed nipples. ;)

His belly button is a long ass way from his cock too.  I mean Racer, imagine how long it would take you to caress him as you work your way down like you always do..  You know the drill.

BTW, I only herass because I can\'t even draw a stick figure..:bounce:

Hehehe, I was expecting these kinda comments. I don\'t care...

His neck is long because of my small scanner. The original drawing is massive and I found it hard to fit on my scanner so its kinda blurred and alittle stretched at the neck.

Its suppose to be nipple hair!!! I have tons more drawings, but some are not appropriate for this forum....

I do drawings like that....but honestly, I much better than you. :)More practice Racer. The area at the elbow is quite nice.

You need to deepen the shadows a little more. Less emphasis on the nipples, really. While everything is smooth, the nipples look as if it\'s not part of the picture.

Still, it\'s a damn nice drawing.

When I took art in college, our models were always fat women. We preferred them over skinny ones. Why? More shadows. That\'s why.

The male models tended to be old but muscular. Some of my best charcoal work is from this old man who was once a body builder.

Good stuff Racer

I\'m not sure if my bbing is a talent, so I won\'t count it.  I\'m pretty good at the artistic aspect of handling a basketball, I can do every move they do in the And1 commercials and a couple they haven\'t.

I can draw as well, I think me and racer are 2 peas out of the same pod.

actually, I can draw, at least I used to be able to do, before my eyes started giving me jip, it was about the only thing I was good at.

I still do stuff in paint shop pro, but but nothing of great significance. If I\'d been commited, and I hadn\'t developed eye problems , I could have been a very good artist, I was usually in the top 3 in everything, and was all set to go to university for art (specializing in graphic art and 3d model designing/making, I\'d probably gone for the model stuff because I was always messy) when I started getting eye problems.

It\'s what is called being dealt a shitter, and you have to make the best of the hand you are dealt in life.

I can still churn crap like this out in psp in minutes, though it takes no real skill to do it.

Hehehe, thanks. I have never studied art other then at school, but I am probably going to go to art college next year.

They\'re too large to be scanned. Besides, I sold the few I had and the rest (which were unfinished) were used as class room examples at various school.

Me and my art teacher had a huge argument when he failed me. Yeah, I was his best student and he failed me. Why? Coz the art work I gave to him to use in other classes.....he forgot to grade. He said he would ammend the final grade but it was too late.

I saw him again at a museum and we had another argument when I badgered him in front of all the tourists in the museum. He made a public apology to me in front of EVERYONE! BWAHAHAH!

Since then, I never touched another canvas again. In the end, I lost. Such a waste of talent. *sigh*

So Gman, going by that pic alone, do you think I am good enough to get into art college?

For someone who has never been technically trained, do you think I have what it would take to really excel?
Title: So whats your talent?
Post by: GmanJoe on October 22, 2003, 04:54:44 AM
Of course you do. You\'ll learn so much in a month than it would if you did it by your lonesome in 6 months. Why? Coz you will learn from others like you. Everyone has their own styles and everyone inspires someone else. That\'s what art is all about : inspiration.

You\'ll learn about 30 second sketches without looking at your work, you\'ll learn to loosen up your lines and your eye hand coordination will become more as one. I used to draw only with my hands and wrist....but soon your drawings will be much larger and you\'ll learn to use your entire arm to help draw. You\'ll also learn to take three steps away from your canvas and look at your progress. DO NOT erase your lines if it\'s inaccurate, just start a new one. You learn from your own lines.

Man....this makes me wanna go back.

EDIT - Yes, like I said, your scan is quite nice for someone with raw talent. Keep at it. You will ONLY GET BETTER. :)

I hope so, I always kinda doubt myself and think "Am I really talented or can everyone draw just the same as me?" Its been hard for me to decide what I want to do with my life because I have so many different interests... I love acting, and wanted to get into that, I love to draw, and wanted to do that, I love video games, and wanted to do graphics for them, I wanted to do advertising, I wanted to do music videos.... etc etc etc

its just so hard making my mind up. I have different feelings on what I want to study every single day! Drawing makes me happy though. Some times I can\'t be bothered, but then when I start its hard for me to stop.

I can draw. I might scan some later if i have time to dick around.

Oh, and like all black men, I can run fas as hell (always comes in handy when the cops are trying to stick it to ya). Seriously though, i love track&soccer. I always ran a bracket ahead of my age range.

Sadly I dont, I could do a crappy recording with a mic on the computer but then I would have to lug my drums (all 8 toms, 2 snares, and various cymbals) into my computer room; and set it up.

If you really want to though I could. Of course I would have to find a way to host it.

It would, but its all in my decked out recording room (Aka the cold garage). And im too lazy to do that, because I would have to move my work around to get at it.(where my computer is).

My band is going to be jamming this weekend, and putting the finishing touches on some songs. We have some ready to record and are Lance (Our guitarist) is ordering some gizmo to record, not sure what. But yeah. I\'ll find a way so you can listen to them; and of course my signature drum solo ;).

Very true, but I don\'t know shit about drums. All Slipknot, System of a Down, and other heavy bands are just pure speed. Just bar chords at a fast pace, its a shame they get credit for it.

Yeah.

thats why  my favorite drummer is Danny Carey.

Sure he is fast as hell, but he knows how to go slow when its needed. I find it so hard sometimes to mimic his offbeat drumming, I mean its like whoa: he can play this without stumbling?

 same with keith moon, his drumming is just amazing, it really brings out the songs he is in.

BTW; Vivi you play guitar correct? Well I have a sample of my guitarist doing a little thing when he was high.

I could email it to you or something, I think you might like; he is better than most professional band guitarists, and Im not ****ing kidding.

Triple post;

mm you should make it so in the edits we can post attachments.

It would save alot of time.

Okay this trick should work; I remember I use to do this back in the day. Save the file, and rename it blah.wav.

Right now its blah.wav.txt

Just try it; could work

edit :  , only the first 2 seconds work.

god this is a pain in the ass.

edit the files name to blah.wav, but as I just said in an edit; only the first 2 seconds work.

If someone could give me a place to upload it, and our other songs, you would be greatly thanked when we become famous ;)

I\'ve always been athletic.  I\'m good at pretty much any sport.  Was best at Tennis though, missed qualifying for state by one match.  I would have loved to run track but of course it\'s during the same season as Tennis.  My speed has been whats pretty much helped me with every sport.  Would have most definently ran the best event, the 400.

Oh, and of course being good at tennis helps with ping pong.  I rarely get beat.

I used to be good at basketball, but eventually my horrible speed caught up with me. Football I\'ve always been good at, however only played my freshman year, because I just can\'t play here in the desert. But yeah, after only one season my best sport by far is swimming. I qualified for regionals, then almost went to state with our relay team however got held back because another guy had more technique with his "butterfly" stroke, even though my freestyle was so fast...

Yeah, I\'m the "FreeStylah"

I\'m good at being me.

Think that\'s the opposite of talent actually...

In other words I suck?

That\'s not what I was saying at all.  Rather, I was saying art school is as expensive, if not moreso, then private universities.  You have to really commit yourself or else it\'s like flushing your bank book down the toilet.

I have always been athletic and I come from a very athletic family. I was pretty good at football and actually got a look and some offers from some good colleges. I also ran track occasionally(4x100) and participated in the shotput.

I also like to consider myself musically inclined. I play the drums and I have been known to drop 16 here or there.

What kind of drums to you have? You too luke?

I have a 10pc Tama set. Its custom mahogony. Its mostly Superstar drums (Vintage drums), and some Starclassic drums for toms. I use Evan heads for my mounted toms and bass (which is a custom logo ;) ), Aquarian Studio-X for my floor toms, and Remo for my snare. Its a shitty snare, but I dont care because I make up for it in my massive tom work. I only use 2 mounted toms and 2 floor toms, the rest are sitting in storage down south.

If I can I might be able to get a picture of it.

Post pictures of your set if you can.

Dude, your a freaking crackhead, I guarentee that guy could drum circles around you and your 16 year old teenage angst metal band.

Do you realize how much "technique" it takes to play flawless, 6 tom fills at about 560 bpm?

Seriously man.

I can\'t believe you just said he isn\'t that good.

I\'m frickin\' speechless.

Seriously.

So yeah... I don\'t really have a set right now. Got a OLD Ludwig jazz 4-piece in my parents basement I\'m gonna fix up one of these days when I can scrounge together about $1200.

First of all Luke, youve lost my favorite member privilages ( ):

Second: If you read my post carefully, you would see that some people would see me better than him. Not everyone.

He isnt that good.

Go download a drum solo from Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Ringo,or Keith Moon. They are good. Speed does not = good. TECHNIQUE = GOOD. Sure speed adds to the technique, but technique the ability to set up part A, to go into part B, into part C- is what makes you a good drummer.

For example; Eric Clapton is considered one of the greatest guitar players; but he isnt the fastest. He knows how to set up a song to make it musically pleasing.

THE Greatest drummer ever, no If, no ands and no buts;

You ask any drummer and ask them to compare the two; Joey Jordinson would be some 10 year old kid with a hand-me down snare drum.

Dude, I\'ve been playing the playing and studying the drums longer than you\'ve been alive. My dad introduced me to Krupa and guys like that when you were in diapers.

They all rule, no doubt... But the dude from slipknot rules too, in his own way.

Yes, he IS that great.

Define "technique"?

what is it other than YOUR personal style of playing.

Shit, if I could play a Benny Goodman song with my dong, that would be good "technique" now wouldn\'t it?

I\'m not sayin\' you don;t know drummin\' duder, I\'m just saying that your wrong in thinking he "Isn\'t that good" cause he is that good. And not just cause he\'s fast.

And whats this "Part B to part C" crap your talking about?

If you seriously sit and listen to Slipknot and say "He went into that chorus shitty" or "man, that fill before the bridge didn\'t fit" then your just a music snob who REALLY doesn\'t get what being a musician is.

Comparing the dude from Slipknot to Gene Krupa is just ****ing silly. Thats not what were doing here.

You say he\'s "Not that great" and I\'m here to tell you flat out, your dead ass wrong... he is great.

How long have you been playing?

P.S. Gene Krupa rules.

Yes he does.

And you should know what technique is if you have been playing drums that long. I hope to God you know what technique is really about.

And when someone says; Bah- Metallica isnt that great, or Pff- Beatles suck or something. It makes just as much sense as me saying "he isnt that great on drums"

Sure he is talented, and fast. But he is a metal drummer, Metal drummers now a days all sound alike. When I listen to TOOL and I hear Danny Carey playing not only drums, but Congas and Bongos- I know he is a good drummer. A Good drummer is someone that isnt afraid to try something new to fit into the song.

Joey Jordinson even prefers guitar over drums. Its as simple as that, he is fast as hell, and talented; but in my eyes, he isnt that great of a drummer. When I want a good drummer, I look at Steve Smith, he could make a masterpiece with a brush, snare and hi-hat, Joey cant.

People see James Hetfield a better guitarist than BB King, and visa versa. Its how I see it, and I dont think he is that good at being a drummer. He has the speed, but he just doesnt know what to do with it.

Quote
And whats this "Part B to part C" crap your talking about?

 From intro, to bridge, to Chorus etc. Its the shifting, the changing of the drum part. A simple drum roll can do in parts, and sometimes a full tom fill and double bass beat works too.

Dont get me wrong; I love some of Slipknots stuff. I have a gigantic poster of them, and even a concert T-shirt. They use to be one of my favorite bands until I discovered Tool. Now they get a listen every once and while, but they just seem to being a dying gimmick.

BTW: The clown is cooler anyway ;)

Pm me, we will talk about it their.

My point in one sentence; to be a good drummer it takes technique, not just speed.
