Title: Elliott Smith 1969 - 2003
Post by: JP on October 22, 2003, 04:37:09 AM: What a sad day. I woke up to the news that Elliott Smith had taken his own life by self-inflicted stabb wounds.

I was a big fan of his music and work and I think it\'s a huge loss to the world of music.

I really don\'t expect many of you to know who he is after seeing what kind of music most of you listen to here but still thought I would honor him at this board. Some of you might have heard his songs on the Good Will Hunting Soundtrack though.

RIP, Elliott. Your music will live on...

Yeah that\'s what I heard. He\'s been having depression problems his whole life though so it wasn\'t that big of a surprise really. He had been having serious mental problems the last few years but was supposedly getting better now and was almost done with his latest album.

Racer, well now would be a good time to check out his work if you\'ve never heard of him.

I guess you could start with the song Miss Misery since it\'s easily available on kazaa and the likes. He was oscar nominated with that song for the Good Will Hunting soundtrack.

He also had a song on the soundtrack for The Royal Tenenbaums - "Needle In The Hay", and it\'s played during the scene where one of the characters tries to commit suicide, kinda ironic...

I did the same exact thing. I was what the hell? when did he die. Then i though someone was talking about his football career.

Then i saw Elliot Smith, never heard of him but sounds like he had a lot of fans. Probally will be missed. R.I.P.

I think it\'s childish to edit the topic vid and make fun of a tragic event like that. But hey that\'s just my opinion.

Fine you didn\'t know who he was and don\'t care but it was unnecessary I think.

Any of you even read music and online magazines like NME, Q, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork etc etc? Obviously not since you don\'t know who he is...
