I don\'t know if this is news or not... In the 10/23/03 issue of the Hollywood Reporter, they ran an article on the new gold rush for DVD releases of television series. "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane indicated that Fox Television was considering restoring the show to their schedule after the phenomenal sales of the DVD release.
Even for mainstream network shows like Fox\'s "The Family Guy," DVD seasonal boxed sets of the animated television show has breathed new life into once-passed-over network fare.
Staddon and "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane told attendees at a confab panel discussion moderated by Paula Parisi, The Hollywood Reporter editorial director, features, that the DVD sales have turned heads at the network.
"As a matter of fact, after three seasons Fox canceled \'The Family Guy,\' and it had been running at night on Cartoon Network\'s Adult Swim," MacFarlane said. "But it wasn\'t until Fox execs saw how well it was doing on DVD that they decided to take a second look at it." After the panel discussion had ended, Staddon, indeed, confirmed that because of better-than-expected sales of "The Family Guy" on DVD, Fox is now looking into bringing the show back into the mix on the network.
"Family Guy" is the No. 1 best-selling TV-to-DVD box set so far this year, selling nearly 1 million units to consumers since its April release on DVD. Factor in that the "The Family Guy" boxed set retails for about $40 each, coming almost immediately to earnings-minded studio bosses, and you\'ve got their attention, MacFarlane said.

Ohh f*cking yes, you don\'t know how happy this makes me.
-
Nice.... nice.... another chip put on the scale in our favor.
It drives me nuts... who does the market analysis for all these big companies? They always, ALWAYS, underestimate the power of nerds. Babylon 5, S:AAB, Futurama, and Family guy all come to mind...
-
Hah you know what, I didn\'t become a fan until a friend showed me the DVDs. Very welcome news indeededly doodily.
-
If they go forward and make Season 4, I hope that they restore production entirely.
Same cast, same writers, same everything. Pick up right where Season 3 left off!
-
i hope they do make more of these, but dont let it slip like they have with the simpsons
-
And while their at it, they should continue with the Tick live series, damn that was a funny show.
-
Now thats what I like to hear
-
Excellent....
-
tick live??? is that the tick?? he wasin a blue suit, and it catch phrase was "spoon"
-
Yes. They made a Tick Live action show. It only lasted about eight episodes. The entire "series" is on DVD now ( I have it). And no, he never said "SPOOON" in the live action series.
-
so u mean they used actors and stuff??? i have never heard about ths, only the old animated cartoons
-
It starred that guy from seinfeld.. the mechanic, elaine\'s boyfriend.. the newjersey devil... etc.
-
The series starred Patrick Warburton, best known for his work on Seinfeld as David Putty. (Elaine\'s boyfriend)
According to most people, it\'s a shame it went off the air so soon. Apparently it was rather funny.
What do you think of it, LiC?

I own the entire series and I love the very few episodes. It was off-the wall humor at its best.
Honestly, I\'d compare it to the 70\'s Batman live action - due to the fact, it was really just a big parody.
Highly, HIGHLY recommended.
And yes " live action" means ... "actors", Kop.
-
cartoon network is going to show the one contrivercial episode of family guy that FOX wouldnt show next sunday night at 11:00.
:hat:ScottyJ:hat:
-
cool lic, i just wasnt sure if it was given a different name over here... i havent ever heard of it, ill look at work tomorrow, see if i can get it
-
This doesn\'t make sense. Why would they cancel one of the greatest comedies of all time to put on the next Joe Millionare. They must have idiots working at fox.
-
Because it\'s Fox?
They cancel all decent series.
-
or run them to death
-
If The X-Files had premiered six years later than it did, Fox would have cancelled it halfway through the first season. Nimrods.

I liked The Tick as well. I might have to pick up that DVD.

It\'s dirt cheap, at DeepDiscountDVD.com - so I don\'t think you can go wrong and get it. It includes one episode Fox never aired. Oh, and they are in the correct order - unlike how Fox aired them.
-
I really am glad to hear about Family Guy. It should never have been taken off the air.
-
this may sound blasphamous, but I think it was better written than the Simpsons was in it\'s hay day. And that is saying alot!

I disagree... simpsons in its prime was extremely clever stuff...
But Family guy blows away any of the simpsons seasons after season 8
-
Yeah, as of right now Family Guy>Simpsons
But no show will ever be funnier than the simpsons as a whole.
-
Jerry Springer is the funniest show ever.
Im dead serious.

I actually agree with that statement.
-
The Simpsons (during its prime, prolly Seasons 2-7) was incredible, but it\'s gotten tired.
Family Guy is very similar but very different, and didn\'t get the chance to fully flesh out like Matt Groening\'s revolutionary show did. Which was funnier? Well, both (at their best) are laugh-out-loud hilarious..
I can\'t pick just one!
