Title: WTF! Not even 1 thread about the new Castlevania!
Post by: Zolar on October 26, 2003, 11:57:59 PM
I just picked it up today, but it\'s still in it\'s shrinkwrap.  Does the game stink.  Mabe Live in Clip can tell me what he thinks, since he loves the idea of a 3d Castlevania, and he thoght Metroid Prime was the best Metroid blowing away Super Metroid for the SNES out of the water.  Seriously though should I return it, or tear it open and play?

Ya\' know - I was gonna start a thread, but I didn\'t.

I went ahead and bought the game and I\'d say its one of the biggest piece of shit in recent time. The camera is awkard, the gameplay is boring and the map sucks my ass. It\'s already on the shelf , to never be seen again.

I saw a big long preview of that game on X-Play, and it looked like crap. I was excited until I realized how bland it was. I\'ll still rent it though, my friend works at Blockbuster so I can get it for free, so I won\'t end up paying for it if it sucks a**...

You stop playing one crap game just to play another crap game?

And it\'s not crap:

It looked like a piece on the tv commercials.  I thought it was an advertisement for devil may cry or chaos legion.  Didn\'t even look like Castlevania.  Anyway I knew LIC would buy it first and let us know.  Just like I bought Tomb Raider: POS.

That\'s right, it\'s not crap because everyone else says it\'s not crap.    The days of accepting everyone elses opinions as your own are over.  If LiC says CV sucks, and I say it sucks, then there will more then likely be a group of people out there who love it and that\'s life.  It\'s time to accept reality and move on.  Simply throwing a link from gamerankings in our collective faces will not make us change our opinions -- ever.

The game is a pile of bile.  Any real Castlevania fan knows that it lacks many of the key elements that makes Castlevania great -- namely a good camera (since they were mostly 2D, this was never a real problem and now it is), a nice RPG like level up system, a number of great spells and collectible items, and tough bosses that really test your patience tossed in there with great level design and unfortunately, LoI lacks all of that.

Developers need to read this (http://www.dignews.com/feature.php?story_id=1099) and finally realize what it takes to make a good camera system because having a bad camera system today, especially after nearly ten years working with 3D game design, is absolutely ridiculous and apalling.

There\'s no thread mentioning it because it looks like crap, plays like crap...and just CRAP.

Rygar is 1000 times better.

Well, if someone can say one incredibly terrible game is better then another incredibly terrible game, then that definitely has to say something.

Thank God, someone agree\'s.

I\'m sorry, but this game has nothing in common with Castlevania other than atmosphere. The rest of it is pure crap. Bad level design (all the castle rooms look the same), poor combat system, jumpy camera\'s and the list just continues to go on. If this game, did not have the CastleVania brand name, people would just write it off as an average action game, and I mean average , as in just barely passable. But, when you think of all the talent who worked on this, the franchise that it is part of, and it\'s disgusting. It\'s just a tad above the N64 CastleVania games and I think we all remember how bad those was.

And yes, Batman: Rise of Sintzu is crap also, but I\'m a Batman freak (I even beat the glitched infested Batman: Dark Tommorw  - also worst game of the year). It was a given that I\'d take the time to go through it just for my Bat\'s addiction can be filled.

Depends on who you ask. These peope here that dislike the game are only a few of many, many, many people that have opinions on this game.

As the link I posted earlier showed the game has been getting pretty good reviews in magazines and gaming websites (the average score over at http://www.gamerankings.com (website that gathers all review scores it can find and then finds the average) is 85%). But of course no one can tell you whether you\'re going to like the game or not.
The safest bet would be to rent the game first to see if you like it or not. Or read a few reviews and try to gather up info on all the ups and downs of the game to see if it\'s the kind of game that you would like.

I was really looking forward to this, so I am severely disappointed, considering I heard it  was being made by the creators of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (best Castlevania ever, IMO) and Devil May Cry (you know...the one that didn\'t suck horrible ass). I think they need to make another 2D Castlevania with today\'s graphic standards. Egh...this game makes me sick...

It is beyond idiotic not to use our current systems as 2D powerhouses with gameplay that is loved. Come on, they have released THREE CastleVania games on the GBA - all of which received awards and high sales. What is so hard about taking those great gameplay elments and giving us a true sequel to CastleVania: SOTN on an actual home console?

It\'s a brain dead thing for Konami to ignore the plea\'s and demands of fans of the series and I hope they suffer something terrible for this current diaster.

Yeah, they could just make a 2.5D game...3D graphics but with a 2D camera angle like Crash Bandicoot...it\'ll rocks!!!

I finally got around to playing Lament of Innocence, and the combat and control were fine, but the game was boring. The level design sucked as well. I liked the music though.

I don\'t think a 2.5D castlevania would cut it. That\'s like a sad attempt at placating the fans of the series, and all the idiots who\'ve never played any games in the series. I don\'t care if Konami makes 3D Castlevania\'s, but they should continue to make 2D ones as well. The two can co-exist.

I\'m playing it and it\'s not bad, but overall it\'s a disappointment.  There are worse games out there.  But I don\'t want to  buy games that are just o.k!  I\'m gonna keep it for my Castlevania collection, but I am weeping right now!:(

For me LoI has been a unique gaming experience. From the boring ugly intro to about an hours worth of play I became more and more annoyed with the game for one reason or another. Stopped playing not sure I would ever pick it up again and was ready to agree whole heartedly with LIC, it seemed to have almost nothing in common with SotN.

A few days later I decided to give it another try. The first thing I noticed was the frequent loading between the mostly small rooms and short halls, which seemed so wrong to me at first, actually took no time at all. Suddenly I was at a loss to find any other serious fault with the game and spent the next several hours looking for differences from SotN that could be considered defects, finding only improvements and good times. Strange, eh?

About the camera or lack of control, it never bothered me other than at first seeming a kind of cheap way to go. To me it helps give the game more of a 2D feel. The rare awkward angles can be fixed by simply moving your character and it just hasn\'t been a problem at all. I\'m sure having no player camera control must have helped boost the graphics a notch because the enemies and environments are cleaner, less polygonal, and have more detail overall than most PS2 games that do offer camera control, including BG: DA, which had only limited control from it\'s high overhead vantage. Yeah, still nothing to impress a PC fanboy **cough** paul **cough** but plenty good looking enough to keep an average gamer satisfied.

I found the combat offered more incentive to make use of options and vary strategy than SotN ever did. LoI also has the added bonus of fights being optional when returning through an area, so how some would find the battles repetitious compared to SotN is really beyond me. At any rate I\'ve been having a blast with LoI after overcoming my initial negative reaction.
