4 popular diets (http://reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=2PMTFJQY0GCS0CRBAEKSFFA?type=domesticNews&storyID=3784322)
Mine\'s probably closest to Zone or Atkins.

Well the Atkins diet, aka the Ketogenic diet is a decent one. It doesn\'t really work the way it is supposed to though. It\'s advertised as depleting the body of glycogen, sending the body into ketosis which is when the body switches from using carbs as it\'s fuel source to using protein and fat as it\'s fuel source. When it uses the secondary fuel source the bi product produced are ketons which in turn lower your appetite.
The ketogenic diet is really more based on lowering your appetite than it it\'s based on burning fat.
It works in a way, but not the way it\'s advertised.
My diet is like this (And is VERY strict, I haven\'t broken it in over a year);
Durning the day I eat 6-8 small meals. Before 6pm I eat low glycemic carbs, and protein with minimum fat. Post workout I take in around 150g\'s of high glycemic carbs to replinish glycogen and spur anabolism. After 6pm I eat only protein and monounsaturated fats.
I take in around 4000kcals a day and atleast 200g\'s of protein. My diet therapy and nutrition professor doesn\'t like how much protein I take in because she\'s in the thinking that too much protein will turn into fat. She\'s partially correct, but de novolipogenesis is a messy process with protein and very little is actually turned into fat, she\'s unaware of this and refuses to listen to me.

Sorta like Atkins but low fat and very very low carbs. I miss rice and pasta. :(
-
I lost 70 pounds in 4 months with the bernstien diet. It\'s basically the atkins diet with a bit less food, vitamin B injections, and medical suppliments. Now I\'m keeping it off with weight watchers.
-
Not on a diet, but I run alot. Seems to work for me.
-
^^
All that matters in weight managment is calories in vs. calories out. And how many calories you burn are based on baslar metabolic rate, your activity level and thermogenic effect of food. So running could easily manage your weight.
-
I swallow a lot of protein...
-
^^
nothing but warm protein shakes for this guy

keto

I started lowering my carbs back in August but since coming back from an injury my PT has told me to put down as much protien as I can get. Seems to be working so far. I eat about 50-70g protein a day.
-
that\'s a pretty good number. Usaully we recommend about .8~ per kg bodyweight to normal people and up to 2g~ per kg body weight. Only bodybuilders and highend athletes excede that.

I know I take in more than 100g of protein a day. I have meat for lunch and dinner everyday and have a 2 scoop shake of designer whey.
The designer whey gives me the nastiest farts.
-
I eat anything and ALOT :D. Just have to exercise. Since August, I\'ve lost 14 pounds. Not that I was expecting any weight loss... lol
-
I\'ve actually started gaining weight recently. My net weight loss from the time cc started to the time it ended is about 0 lbs. Not that it bothers me, I was in shape before the season started.
-
I\'m trying to gain weight so I\'m just eating anything I can get my hands on. I think I\'m up to 130 now since I last checked. I\'m in the weight room so any fat I get turns to muscle.
-
technically fat can\'t turn into muscle. What might happen is that the fat will be used for energy, and be burned, while the protein will be free for protein synthesis and go toward muscle building.
-
Yeah, thats what I mean. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I\'m gonna use the fat during weight lifting so i don\'t turn into a fatass and since muscle is heavier than fat, I\'ll be heavier and can\'t be pushed around so easily in lax.
-
do any of you guys here do bulk and cut cycles?
Im bulking right now... its getting a little bit out of hand haha :thumb:
-
well, there\'s too ideas about "bulking"
One is the basic idea of bulk and cut, where you build muscle and take acceptablel fat gains, then cut off the excess fat with acceptable muscle loss.
Then there are caloric cycling (refeeds)
This is when you have one day a week of overfeeding by about 500 calories of carbs. The idea is that our weight and appetite is controlled by leptin levels. When we diet, the leptin levels lower, and fat storage becomes easier and appetite raises. By a controlled overfeed, leptin levels raise and this lowers appetite and raises baslar metabolic rate.
-
You ruin everything omen.

im doing that one right now....
When should i start cutting? (so that im at my ideal bf% for the summer months)
i thinking around New years?... i dunno... never done it this way before...
-
what\'s your ideal bf%, and current bf%?
basically, if you lower your intake to 500kcals below maintance(sp), you\'ll lose 1pound of fat per week.
-
i think im at about 18-20% right now ... ideal would be anything below 13% (safely below ofcourse :p)
-
just go hypocaloric for 6 days a week, then hypercaloric for one day a week.
