Title: Gran Turismo - Manual or Auto.
Post by: Green Meanie on November 18, 2003, 07:57:12 AM
I\'m just wondering how many people miss half the fun by using auto-gears. Also, of the people that use manual, how many get on with the paddle system? I personally hate it as all I want my left hand to do whilst driving is steer, R1 and R2 are my up and down. It may seem like a pointless thread but I have a curious mind, humour me!

It\'s worth getting to know your enemy for on-line gaming, if I ever manage to sort it out.

I stick to auto gears, all my cars are tuned to the max so I need auto gears so I can concentrate on steering and braking!

You ought to try the manual, a friend of mine came round the other day while I was playing and wanted a few laps in the Supra and then proceeded to play with manual gears, he was off the track for the first few laps but then just got faster and faster. I get annoyed at not being able to brake properly also, I like to paste the engine to the redline on downshifts.

Manual. You have more control of your speeed. After some plays I noticed that its easier to steer your car on hard turns than auto

For the gearing I use, manual always seems to go one gear too high in tight corners, almost like the game is playing it safe with the revs. I prefer to decide myself, sometimes I\'ll have a bad or good corner and will reach the next at a different speed, gear selection is all-important.

manual all the way.  I too downshit several gears going into tight turns... it helps a lot with keeping your car under control.

Auto for me as well. I know manual would yield faster times but my fingers seem retarded enough without the added challenge. I\'d be all over a mock clutch pedal and stick though.

Are you thinking of big bit of plastic like Steel Battallion for driving controls?

I use auto also I would have to probably devote some time to getting used to manual controls.

When driving with the wheel = Manual
When driving with the controller = Auto

You get much better track times with Manual gear :)

I use manual with or w/o the wheel. I just have more control, especially when im drifting. Drifting in auto its just plain dumb if you are 1) Doing it correctly or 2) Doing more advanced techniques. Auto only when im 1/2 asleep, or on other rare occasions.

I hope to see drift competitions on-line. That would make my day

I\'ve got 100% on the game but I\'ve never seen the Polophony001 car.  Seen every other cart one.

Just my pure driving talent :p and that was only my 2nd lap and I used the controller. So wait till I break out the steering wheel :D I\'m predicting a 3min 25secs lap time. :D

I forgot to get my times last night, these look pretty quick, I\'m slightly worried now!

I\'ll know by tonight if I\'m crap and you\'ll all know tomorrow!

Well maybe a tweak on the gear ratios and downforce but that\'s all. And I\'ve just completely smashed my old time using the steering wheel, captures in a bit.

Here we go then and listen carefully. Theres only one GT3 King around here. :D

Time set with Logitech\'s Driving Force Wheel, with adjustments to gear ratios and wing.

Are the UK Polyphony001 and 002 the same as eveywhere else? I swear I heard somewhere ages ago that someone had tuned one to 1400hp. Probably b*llocks but I have to ask.

AND WHY THE HELL WON\'T THEY LET ME PUT SOME SUPER SOFT SLICKS ON THEM INSTEAD OF CRAPPY MEDIUMS?!?!
Title: Gran Turismo - Manual or Auto.
Post by: Tyrant on November 20, 2003, 02:40:03 AM
the 1400hp is prolly fake as u cant modify the f1 engines at all.
and yes the polyphony  cars are the same what i dont get is why some cars are 790hp and some are 829hp.
as for the tyres i think coz polyphony had some problems with FIA licensing thats they couldnt put as much as they would\'ve wanted to.

Post by: Green Meanie on November 20, 2003, 03:21:15 AM
If you take a new F1 car, do a few laps and then change the oil you\'ll have 829hp. Be warned though, I managed to do 1000km in one of my cars without changing the oil, my horsepower dropped by 84 and never came back, I permanantly damaged my car (FTO Race Car).

Doesn\'t matter too much though, I have two more!

That\'s what I thought. There could be room for liars on that site but most wouldn\'t.

You can usually tell how much more you can get out of a car, but 20secs more seems like a piss-take really.

Edit : I\'ve just noticed, I have another star and I\'m now an old member, wooohooooo. I really must do some work now!

Makaveli - Had a look at my times for the Complex String last night and I must say, Christ I have to get a steering wheel!

3:27.147

I know where I can make up about 2 seconds, but the other two?????? Maybe Santa\'ll bring me a wheel for Christmas, loads of people are saying it\'s the only way to go.

I\'m gonna give it another go. But without traction control and I\'m gonna tinker with the springs and what not to try and reduce the oversteer/understeer, and just generally give be a better drive. So I can have a crack at beating that 3.07.

You use traction control? That\'s the first thing I turn off on all my cars, I can\'t stand something else being in control of my throttle.

I\'m probably one of the best at GT3 here,  so take my advice:

If you\'re serious about getting the best lap times use standard transmission as I do.

And if you don\'t believe me I will just have to prove it to you when GT4 is released.

I use manual transmission. Works for me. I also use the traction control because on most of my cars, I spin out. Its my approach though, its all wrong.

Yep. Maybe I should change the ASM & TC in the opposite direction. :p
