Today at school a monk from Tibet came and spoke.
I skipped 2 of my classes (2 hours, 30 minutes total) to listen to his speeches, he cant speak english but a translater translated.
His name is Palden Gyatso, and is an amazing man. He is buddhist, and has been a monk for some time.
The paper did an article on him, if you care to read it.
He was in prison most of his life, 33 years I believe, for peaceful protests. He was forced to eat leather shoes, bugs, grass, and bugs for that time.
Its terrible what is going on in that part of the world, and how much it is being ignored.
During his 33 years as a prisoner of conscience in Chinese labors camps and prisons in Tibet, Tibetan lama Palden Gyatso was dangled over fire as if he was a human steak. He was routinely kicked and whipped while pulling a plow for more than nine hours a day. He had an electrical cattle prod shoved down his mouth, shocking and destroying all the roots of his teeth.
He showed us his false teeth and was almost crying in memory. I cannot imagine how much he was going through.
And yet, he holds no hate or disregard or any grudge for them, because anger is a buddhist enemy.
I just figured since we were talking, and still am talking about Taoism etc. I should bring this up: it seemed to fit.

BTW: I beat up both those kids when they were in 8th grade, :( :D
BTW: If you are going to post in here, make it serious, its not a laughing matter and hopefully an intellectual discussion can happen sometime on this forum.

Amazing.

I sense ignorance and sarcasm.
Hopefully your just trying to higher your post count, and put no thought or brainpower into typing that.

*yawn*
Whoopie-doo.
By the way, you\'re the last to comment on ignorance and sarcasm, Spudz.

Whoa whoa whoa... Did he have to eat any bugs? I forget.
-
I think he had to eat bugs once or twice. Not sure if that was mentioned or not, Luke.
-
So he ate bugs?
-
I think so. The article isn\'t really clear on that, nor is Spudz, so it\'s hard to say.
-
You know what, out of all the religions in the world Buddhist, Tao(ist?), and Hindu have to be the most understanding peaceful religions. Christianity "believes" in peace. But GWB did go to war and asked God to bless the soldiers and help them...kill other people? Then there are the Crusades, terrible times. I\'ve been learning alot about Jews and I understand why they would not accept Jesus as their Messiah. In some respect their right. But anyways, yeah it\'s really sad that he was mistreated that way but it\'s cool to see that he actually sticks to his believes, he might be shattered on the outside, but I bet on the inside he is the most peaceful complete people there are.
-
Hey.. hey.. the Crusades may have been terrible times.. but that one Last Crusade wasn\'t all that bad!
Eh? :) *goes back into his cave and hugs his Ark*

True. I mean, when you consider its prequel, \'The Temple of Doom\' , then I think \'The Last Crusade\' is actually a really good finishing film for the trilogy.
-
Well, I can say it\'s pretty upsetting to read this part too.
There was so much Chinese propaganda that the Chinese, whenever there was an important visitor, would warn that everyone in the prison had to laugh," Gyatso said. "They would bring in their own people wearing uniforms like prisoners. They would have the refrigerators full of wonderful food and everyone would be playing games and dancing."

Gee, real mature guys, destroying a serious subject.
I think it\'s horrible what has happend in Tibet, and I think it\'s a shame not more people are aware and/or care.

It is terrible; but a lot of the stuff going on in America is terrible and ALSO being ignored.

Why did I ruin it? Just showing Spudz what it\'s like when someone wants to have a serious topic and it\'s spammed. Alittle taste of his own medicine, so to speak.
And I have to agree with Gohan. There is terrible stuff goin\' on in our homeland that is being ignored and frankly I\'m more worried about that, than the people in Tibet, who I\'ll never see and will always remain faceless other than those stupid Sally Struthers face the starving children commercials.
-
So Spudz, goes to show you how good youv\'e got it in the good \'ol USA.
-
Buddhism seems to be the only "sane" religion..
And pity about the man, I once met a jewish fellow from a concentration camp. :(
-
An amazing person. I wondered about myself and how I would handle a situation even remotely similar...I don\'t know. I honestly can\'t imagine why someone would want to do those acts on another person and how they have the balls to carry it out.
Then again it doesn\'t do me any good to think about it.
It is terrible; but a lot of the stuff going on in America is terrible and ALSO being ignored.
It\'s like that all over the world. No matter what\'s going on it always comes down to the individual experiencing it. It is quite unfortunate that we can become victims of other people\'s pride, greed, and gluttony.
"They can take everything away from me but they can\'t take my inner peace."

what in the US can possibly be compared to that
Anyways, that kid on the left in that picture really needs to wash his hair.

Yes, I skipped 2nd period again to go watch him.
Its just amazing hearing his story in real life.

Question:
Did he eat bugs?

I don\'t understand how people can believe it never happene, along with the whole man never walked on the moon conspiracy.
-
Atleast the man on the moon conspiracy has evidence it didn\'t happened (which is the exact opposite of the halocaust)
**** you
-
But the "evidence" of the moon hoax is easily contradicted. I did an essay on the moon hoax. It was great.
-
For him to not hold a grudge after all the crap the Chinese put him through, is just astounding. That\'s such a sign of his dedication and concentration to remain ever so mentally peaceful.
I can\'t understand how the Chinese can be so inhumane! One would think after what the Japanese did to their people during WWII, they\'d have more compassion. -_- They\'re such freakin\' proud people...yet so blind to why they should be ashamed of themselves.:crying::evil::mecry:

You either (1) obviously missed my sarcasm on the whole "it did happen?" part or you are (2) extremely stupid {which is my bet}. I know it happened and it was a tragic thing. I was simply saying that the idea that the holocaust didn\'t happen is as stupid as the theory that man never walked on the moon .
We walked on the moon.
There was a holocaust.
Jesus did marry a hooker.

For every step people take to make drugs legal in every state - you end up knocking them three steps back, with posts like that.
;)

Yeah man, your ruining it for us!
/pops some vicodin and begins to dance around an open fire on my couch
WEEEEEEEEE! THIS ISNT ILLEGAL THOUGH!1
-
Well the US did have slavery, the whole kicking the Native Americans out of their land, and the Asian thing during WW2, and Hiroshima and that island where they blew up Nukes and told people it\'s ok to live there, and that one time when they allowed people to watch a nuke blow and then studied what happened to and the list goes on.....

I really wasn\'t trying to one up the guy and get into a societal problem pissing contest.
Still if you want something to compare, there are/were political prisoners in the US that were involved in peacful protests who you will never hear about. Since they are either still in jail, murdered, or just MIA.
The US can be just as bad as anyone else when it comes to protecting the Status Quo.
-
The US is no where near as bad as Tibet or any place else.
They have fear of riding the bus, because a suicide bomber could just blow up right their. They are afraid to walk in the open, thinking a sniper could just put a hole into them. They have no food, no shelter, nothing.
The majority of Americans have food, shelter, and something.
-
Dog, I never said the US was as bad as Tibet; but to say that the US is at the opposite end of the spectrum is just flat out wrong.
If you get shot at with a 50 caliber machine gun and I get shot at with a .44 does that mean my story doesn\'t matter? They both suck.

Any confirmation on the bug eating?
-
He ate bugs.
(You pricks)
-
^^^HE DID!? Is this a new development?
-
Why would he eat bugs? That sounds silly!
-
Mormons still suck, golden plate my ass...
Anyways, Buddhism 0wnz. My family is Buddhist, and I try to atleast follow the ideals of the philosophy. Not many other Buddhists here in Cali, so that makes us special.
*Does special dance

No shit.
If I was him, I would of at least went to Pizza Hut or something first.
-
I can\'t believe he ate bugs. It\'s probably a good thing that he lost all of his teeth. Those little fellas would be getting stuck in you\'re teeth all the time.
Lucky devil..

Not many other Buddhists in California? You\'ve got to be joking! There\'s an entire Buddhist town north of San Francisco. I think there\'s a Buddhist high school there too. There\'s a temple in San Jose that, on opening day, people believed a bodhistva blessed by appearing over it in a form of clouds.
-
I knew that was coming. I should have rephrased, not many in my part of Cali. I haven\'t met another 1 here outside of a Buddhist temple, ever. Mostly mormons surprisingly. We do have the oldest Buddhist Temple in all of Cali here though, I guess that counts for something.
-
What kind of secluded area of California are you from? O_o
-
Chico, it\'s about 50 miles North of Sac.
-
Chico...

You see the South Park last night where they were making fun of Mormons? I think they proved the whole religion wrong in that episode :p . Got to be one of the funniest South Parks to date.
-
^^
Yeah, I saw it. And it was frick\'n great, even some of my mormon friends liked it, surprising.
-
One of my racist\'s grandpas jokes;
Mormons are true morons! They cant even spell it!
Damn, Im glad he is dead- ****ing nazi.
-
While I think that the story they base their religion on is a bit silly, you have to admire the basic philosophy behind alot of the Mormon religion. Most Mormon people I know are extremely nice people. There are a few things I disagree with in the theology department, but the important thing is how they live their lives.... though I could go without the pimping of their religion, you\'re mormon and that\'s nice but it isn\'t for me, thank you.
-
Great episode.
Dum..dum..dum dum..dum..
As for Mormons and their religion being silly - what can I say? I was born and raised a Jehovah\'s Witness - how much siller can it get?

Well I was approached by a very cute chick the other day. I figure it\'s my good looks and boyish charm, but it turns out she\'s a Jehovah\'s Witness. Bummer. ;)
And for a second there I considered joining, but nah... not being able to get presents kinda ruined it for me. :p

No oral grafication.
No self grafication.
No holidays.
No cussing.
No R - rated movies.
No violent or adult videogames.
The list goes on.
I will say one thing for Jehovah Witness\'s tho\', the girls are usually pretty damn cute. My first crush (and first love) was a Witness girl , was damn cute and smart. I\'d still give my left nut for her. It\'s an obsession. She was the Elder\'s (layman term: preacher) daughter.
